I wanted to check this place out. I pulled up and went inside, and the lady at the entrance checkpoint was kind. She let me know how their membership works (you have to be a business owner). Today was my lucky day in that she had one temporary pass left. With the temporary pass, there could be no returns, and I had to return the pass to the checkout clerk after my purchase. It's a great place to buy bulk food and food supplies. They have great cookware and cooking utensils also. Yes, they cater more to restaurants, but you can find things that may be hard to find at your average retail store. read more

If you have a chance to check this place out, do it. Sure most of the stuff is in bulk, but they got some good stuff! Typically you need to have a membership and can only get a membership if you have a business, but they opened it up to the public due to COVID-19. My husband and I decided to take a quick peek in there and ended up needing to buy a large freezer bag by the time we were done. They have everything you could imagine from food to supplies. This place is a god-send for the restaurant ownership based community. You can find any and everything in here and the beauty of it is that YOU CAN GET IT IN BULK. Any kind of restaurant based item can be found here and normally, this place is cheaper than other facilities of this kind. The frozen food section is phenomenal; it's pretty massive in size as you walk into a larger than normal sized freezer. Be sure to grab an orange overcoat provided by the store as it is VERYYYYYY chilly inside. Fresh fruit, seafood, fish, chicken; you name it, it's in there. To be noted: there's no fee to enter, you do have to be a member. They give you like a 15 little keychain cards for your use, I'm kidding, it's not 15, but you get more than 3; make sure to put a piece of tape over the barcode, as it will rub off due to regular wear. Friendly cashiers will scan your items and place them back on the flat shopping carts while processing your items for payment. Don't expect any bagging to go on here, as most of the items are waayyyyy too large or bulky for bags. Be sure to check the open and close times, they open super early, but also close early as well... oh and they're open on SUNDAYS; that's a rarity. read more

One of my favorite places in the city! I cook almost every night, and love almost every minute of it, so Restaurant Depot helps keep my spice cabinet stocked. It's true that they carry lots of stuff in bulk, but they're also a great resource for kitchen tools, glassware, even appliances. Their prices are rock bottom and their quality is good. They carry whole filet on the cheap, as well as lobster, oysters, crabmeat, and most other seafood you might want to put on the table at home. I'm hooked on their canned snails. This must be what the restaurants use for their escargot, because it tastes the same once prepared. And it's so inexpensive! You need a membership card to enter, but you can use a friend's. Membership is easy to obtain, and you get 3 cards. This place is a godsend for me. read more

The cashier was closing her lane but I didn't know that when myself and another lady in front of me got to the line. After she ring up the customer, she looks at the lady in front of me and says she's close and then change her mind and took the lady in front of me because she had only two items to ring up. I then asked if she can ring me up also, she didn't even aknowledge me with a reply. When it was my turn, her tone of voice was rude when I made a mistake and press the wrong key on the cc machine. I was distracted because people were trying to get to her line and she were trying to ignore them but then she started to wave at a guy to get to her line to check out. The man had four or five items! It was just too early for me to deal with her foolishness. If she's not happy with her job then don't come to work. Restaurant Depot is quite simply the poster child for what could be terrible at a retail store. Here's a list: 1. Very slow-you will wait a very long time so don't come here without having plenty of time to burn and the store knows it....consistently only 2-3 lines open. 2. Terrible customer service and very slow, negative staff.....they don't care and complain about being there. 3. Very unorganized. Ask for help to get something off a shelf....haha.....good luck, it's a 30 minute minimum turnaround. 4. Dirty 5. Check prices, everything is in the wrong place and labeled wrong, I saw batch drink containers listed at 33.00 each....waiting in line 30 minutes, got to cashier and it rang up 122.00 each. Only go here because owners use them because it's close and they think it's a big savings but just the labor having to wait offsets any savings. read more

I've been to this place several times now and it is consistently: - Disgusting/Filthy - Disorganized - Filled with unhelpful and annoyed employees - Super noisy On the top of that, I would add the fact that numerous products offered are actually no longer edible (Stinky smoked ham with a passed date, beef labeled as lamb, etc.). I really enjoy coming in here because it's limited to restaurants and non profits. It's not too crowded but the lines can be long due to restaurant folks making large purchases of food and goods. I particularly love their cases of mustard greens, chicken. oxtails, fresh fruit, spring mix salads, seafood and selection of cheeses. I swear, one day I'm going vegan but it's hard living in NOLA. I've been to the stores in Cleveland, OH and Mineola, NY and they are not as big as this one in New Orleans. I've lived in and been back to Silver Spring, Maryland a few times and never been in their store but I'm curious to see if it's huge like this one. Similar to Sam's and Costco; they have just about everything you can imagine to eat but in mass sizes because of course, it's for restaurateurs. While I have not done any crawfish shopping this year at Restaurant Depot, I've definitely been in here a number of times since 2015, and still reiterate that they're a pretty good spot if you have a membership and/or use someones to find mixers, bulk ingredients, and other items to make your largescale party a hit without breaking the bank (and if you can't find it at Costco). What I do find interesting is that their selection of sodas and mixers do change occasionally, so be aware, but it was great that I was able to find bulk ginger beer on this last visit. They also have bulk Yoohoo...The inner child in me says,"do it..." Alas, that fiance diet does not agree. In need of bulk limes, this is your jam. I definitely think Restaurant Depot is the place to hit before Thanksgiving or Christmas dinner, for sure. I also found that while Costco has some great prices on cheese, Restaurant Depot has more of a variety though they might be a tad pricier. I really like that they have bulk spices here as well. I've bought their spices in bulk for our pickling event a while back and could return any unopened product. #restaurantdepotwin. Now if you're only buying two or three items, you might curse yourself for the line situation so maybe go on off hours (late afternoons in the middle of the week) to knock out smaller shopping sprees, but their lines do move pretty quickly. Just don't be wooed by the bulk candies and chocolates. It's like going to a regular store but instead of a Snickers bar, you buy a pallet of Ferrero Rocher. Have a list and a purpose, and you'll make it past the register without too many regrets. Again, I reiterate, I think they downsized a wee bit on their cutlery, plate ware, kitchen items, etc. side so I just buy on WebRestaurantStore.com for very specific things so I'm not stuck, but they definitely have stuff if you're not looking for very specific sizes. On a personal note, I think I've really improved my Restaurant Depot cart maneuvering skills (if you've been you know what I'm talking about), and look forward to whipping around their aisles when the need for a bulk order strikes again! read more

I don't come here often, but when I do........AAAHH!!! This place is a mad house today. Needed to get the food for the Spaghetti Dinner tomorrow and the food for Friday's Supper. It's always better to purchase the bulk food here. We were able to get everything we needed and the help was perfect until we realized it was closing time. They let us shop, but it was a nice experience. We will return again when we have to purchase more often for the Church Kitchen. read more

As someone who deals professionally in bulk and volume discount purchasing, I'm partial towards wholesale places. As the name suggests, they are geared towards restaurants and sell many items that commercial kitchens would need only in bulk. Since it is a wholesaler, you do need to have business documents to acquire a membership card and make purchases. But unlike Sam's Club and other wholesale dealers, enrolling to shop here is free. Also, unlike Sam's Club, they also take all major credit cards. On my first trip there, I snagged a pile of some of the more durable groceries I use: A 25lb pound bag of Thai Jasmine rice for around $18, a 3 liter metal canister of imported Katamala extra virgin olive oil for around $10.00. A 1lb container of dried majoram leaves (I make a lot of curries) for around $5.00. These prices represented immense savings over prices charged at grocery stores and savings of at least 20% over what I've paid at other wholesale locations. Then I donned a complimentary cold storage coat, entered the HUGE cold food section, and discovered the REAL gem of this place. Tons of meats, veggies, and seafood at REALLY GREAT prices. If you are flexible with your needs, this is a great place to pick up highly discounted meats, vegetables, dairy, and seafood. Talking to the seafood guy, he explained to me that they only stock fresh seafood for four days. This gives buyers ample time to resell the products. On day four, they do price reductions of around 50% off. I landed some really fresh, sushi grade tuna that would have easily cost $15-$20 per pound at a grocery for $5.50 a pound (the smallest portion for sale was three pounds). On another trip, I picked up some HUGE shrimp for about $2.00 per pound (again, in a 3 pound portion). On another trip, I picked up a 3lb crate of really fresh portobello mushrooms for $5.50. Over all, because of its target, this place has an incredible food selection for a wholesaler. If you can't use 7lbs of strip steak or a whole sack of onions, then maybe coop shopping here with friends or other family members would be your best strategy. General pricing is hit or miss, with many prices being better than other wholesalers and some not. The real gem is that good shoppers with flexible needs who pay attention to the orange price reduction details can walk away with amazing, delicious deals! read more

Having a Steak Birthday Party for one of your friends? Buy in bulk and cut your own. They got you. Need half of a Lamb? They got you. Need that lamb Halal? They still got you. Commercial Smallwares? All over it. Bulk produce and dairy? Why shop anywhere else. My latest discovery here is that you can actually purchase some really high quality foie gras in bulk vacuum bags. Just walking around this store makes you realize how much you are overpaying at restaurants, but also makes you appreciate the work that local chefs go to purchasing food fresh ever day. If you are brave enough to put on one of the community cooler jackets hanging up on hooks outside the biggest walk in freezer known to man you will stay toasty while perusing an impressive array of perishable items. I think you might need a special card or membership to shop here. Fortunately, I have some friends who are in the process of opening a business, so when they go here they let me tag along. This place is basically Costco on steroids. Everything is in HUGE portions, because it's meant to be used in restaurants and business stuff like that. The deals here are amazing, if you have a place to store the stuff. This is basically your one stop shop if a huge hurricane is pending and you need to stock up on goods. On the day we went, my friends were stocking up on produce which was super fresh and well priced. I would love to come back here during crawfish season, to get some mudbugs for a boil. This is a huge wholesale food warehouse. Most of the items are bulk purchases but they do have a respectable selection of things you can purchase as single items. You need a business license to get a membership here generally and they do have some great prices on many items. Half of the store is a gigantic walk in cooler and they have all sorts of vegetables, meats and seafood. Many people put on the provided cold weather gear to walk into this chilly side while I love it in my shorts and t-shirt and would love to set up my bed and just take a nap in here. I've never seen a RD with such a lack of cleanliness, organization....and not well stocked at all. So much time is lost looking for items that are still wrapped and a fork lift is needed. One guy is operating ONE fork lift for the many customers who can't find what they need. And why is a man riding around on a machine cleaning floors in the middle of the day asking customers to move? Why are your isles full of merchandise 'to be stocked' and we can't get by with our carts? Why does the customer have to feel like "we" are in YOUR way? Although you can buy most restaurant supplies here, you might also get run over by the employees on machinery. You do need a business membership to even enter the store. I find that they are not as cheap as some of the other spots in town that serve the hospitality industry. They are also frequently out of items. I visit about every two weeks, I dread it every time. I was in this store near the freezer area when this young man jumped on a fork lift, slapped it in reverse and some plastic wrap that was connected to it pulled a woman's leg out from under her! That poor woman didn't get a chance to catch herself it happened so fast. Isn't there some kind of safety class needed to drive one of those things? At least clean up the area before driving off. I'm torn, so torn. So this place opened within the past few months. It's like Sam's Club for restaurants (and unfortunately, you have to show proof of restaurant or non-profit affiliation when getting a membership). My first visit, I was completely in awe. 50 pounds of onions for $8.95? Whole goats? Edible flowers, micro-greens, ten kinds of mushrooms? Some things you can buy by the unit (like one head of cauliflower) and others you are stuck with a huge portion, I mean, I love tarragon, but I can't see using 5 pounds of it before it starts to droop. The second trip, I started to see some flaws. They don't carry veggie burgers but they do have a huge freezer case of nasty-looking frozen appetizers that you can probably buy at Applebee's for three times the price. They have huge jars of kalamata olive SPREAD but no plain old kalamata olives. They had some fish that looked so not right, cloudy eyes and all. Then the most egregious error occurred when, on a Saturday, I asked if I could pick up live crawfish on Sunday. The man at the fish counter said yes, but to be sure to be there at 9am when the order comes in and then it's first come, first serve. The next morning, we headed over to the Depot, only to be met with a blank stare and told they weren't getting any crawfish that day. Sad. They are pretty new, I expect they are having some ordering and stocking kinks to work out. In the meantime, if anyone needs onions, I've got them aplenty! read more

We shop here every two weeks for tomatoes, frozen veggies (wish the selection were more varied), sweet peppers, tortillas, peanut butter, shredded cheese, goat cheese, yogurt, chicken breasts, plastic wrap (one box will last you two years), avocados, spices, flour, and rice. These are good deals and keep well. We went to the one in San Diego and the taco/carne asada meat was better and the tortilla section was much bigger. read more

Fork lifts racing around are a safety hazard & stacking pallets in the loft area haphazardly is an accident waiting to happen. I am a very regular customer.. Today I decided I wanted to make Lobster stock and I saw that they had some died lobsters I wanted to buy.. Seafood Guy said he would ask manager.. Every time I ask for any kind of assistance (helping with looking for a product), they look at me and hear what I'm asking but just walk away. Every. Single. Time. I even call this place a day before coming to make sure certain items are in stock and they always say yes but when I arrive, NOTHING is available. It's quiet, half the store is refrigerated (there are orange jackets for customers), and it's about $2 cheaper than Sam's. Also, kids 15 and under must be signed in by an adult, which seems to make people keep a better eye on their kids! There's a great selection of kitchen appliances and other necessities. We shop here often. Normally, I find what I need, without having to ask around. This last trip, I was hunting down iqf 6oz chicken breasts. We asked two people in the refrigerated section, and they couldn't help. We asked behind the desk and were told they were sold out. Ultimately, we were sent to the manager on duty, Paul, and he knew exactly what I was searching for, where to find them, and walked us over to them, just to make sure. It was at the end of the day, and they were trying to close up, but Paul was kind enough to take the time to help us out, without rushing us or making us feel as though we had inconvenienced him. read more

Wow, what an awesome place. This place is aimed toward the restaurant business, and has everything to be sold wholesale. They have a big "walk-in cooler" which they keep all the cold stuff in. Do not forget to wear a jacket (which are available before entrance), you WILL need it. read more

This store is great and I save a lot of money shopping there. The only problem is that there are always pallets all over the store (making it difficult to shop there). It seems like every time I go there I have to find a forklift operator to help me as the shelves are not fully stocked and the forklift person must locate the item and remove it from the overhead racks for me. My trick is to find Paul when I run into this problem. He is the only forklift operator that will stop what he is doing and help me every time without fail. My only other problem is the long lines at the checkout but that just shows me that the store is very popular. read more

I am a restaurant owner who shops here 2-4 times per week. Most of the staff is very friendly. I personally think Kyle is a very helpful employee. I am surprised to see another reviewer speak of him so poorly. He has been nothing but nice to me and knows my business name. The store is big and it is actually a warehouse so it can be a bit fast paced and it can be tough to maneuver sometimes with the big carts but is designed for pros like me who need 50 lbs of stuff at a time. I like the store and for some of their items the deals are good but they they are higher than other stores in the area. Compare to say Alack, which does not carry as much variety but what they do carry is top quality at a true discount. I just find the pricing to be high, will only use in a pinch. read more
