I don't do reviews often, however El Arrayan with chef and dad Mauricio deserve one. Food: the menus is not very extensive which allows them to concentrate in quality rather than quantity. My wife had the sunset shrimp which were done " Al punto". I had the seared ahi tuna steak in garlic which was truly excellent. Drinks were well made and tasty without overdoing them. For dessert we had the lemon pie, which is one of the best I have had. We were taken care by his young son Julian. I wanted a special dinner with my wife for Valentine's Day and El Arrayan made it happen. Congratulations Chef Mauricio!!! read more

Simply amazing! Mauricio on the grill and his friends sitting in his "backyard" across the street is the vibe. We had shrimp tacos and a marlin steak. Both were amazing. We are in town for another 7 nights and will come back at least once, if not more times. 100% recommend this place! read more

If you are in the area, El Arrayan is not to be missed. Came here early in the evening, as we had tried the prior evening, and it was completely full. As you are walking down the street, what looks like the restaurant on one side, the tables are on the other side of the street. We were told that we could take any table, so we grabbed a cute table for two. Our server was over with menus and was very friendly, also her english was great, so that helped with our questions. Prior to ordering the chef was at the BBQ (also situated on the street) and I walked over and asked him for suggestions. It's not everywhere you can go and talk to the chef and ask for suggestions of what to have for dinner. We went with the chefs suggestion with Tuna. He also suggested the Marlin & Red Snapper too. We were provided a complimentary dish, which the server called Cheese curds. It was a warm, almost cottage cheese with some tomato flavours. We scrapped up the last of the cheese curds with the chips were given. In no time our food was on the table. The first bites in... Mmmmm Soo Good ! We were also provided a "Sauce of the day" which was a type of sauce with pineapple in it, like a salsa verde with pineapple (but that hardly does it justice to explain it). I ordered the bacon wrapped tuna and my wife had the grilled tuna, both were fantastic. My meal was 195 pesos, and my wife's 160. The prices of the meals with the quality and serving size is unrivaled. After the meal the chef came by to check on us to make sure that the food was good. Again, how many places can you say you've been to that the chef comes over to talk to you ? Overall, great food, service is fantastic. I don't think any of the meals served there will disappoint. Highly recommend it. I'm going back as soon as I can. read more

This place has the best grilled seafood I have ever had and I am well versed in seafood. The chef and his family provide an amazing atmosphere and make you feel like part of the family. Great prices and honestly has the best seafood in Zihua, even compared to more pricey restaurants. CASH ONLY, but even if you forget they will work with you. It is my favorite restaurant in Zihuatanejo. Best option is to ask for a platter and share your favorites from the menu (just ask). The bacon wrapped shrimp is unreal as well as the Mahi and Tuna. Amazingly cheap, well prepared grilled food served on a sidewalk on the very cute Calle Adelita. Don't expect a lot of choices or many frills but do expect very good food. The four of us had Grilled Tuna with Guajillo sauce (2 of us had this), Fish Tacos (3 huge tacos), and Kebabs (chicken, steak, and shrimp). We added in an order of fresh Octopus (very nicely grilled over iceberg lettuce which was sort of weird but really let the Octopus shine). Throw in two bottles of wine and we were full and happy with only a $70 bill for all of that. 5 stars for taste and price for sure. read more

This restaurant not only has great food but the owner is a sweetheart and very passionate about his restaurant. The service was great the location was not ocean view but very quaint and inviting, out of the commotion. I will definitely return when we go back to Zhiuatenjo. If I have one regret from my visit to Zihua this year, it was not eating a full meal here. We stopped in purely because I love Sangria and someone told me they have the best..... and they were not wrong, their Sangria was good. We had already eaten dinner so we were not hungry, but we did nibble on a quesadilla and some chips and salsa with our drinks. We had walked passed this restaurant during the day, sometimes 2x a day back and forth to our hotel and never stopped to check the menu. Mainly I think because it is on a side street away from the main part of town and restaurants. Mistake...... At night for dinner they have tables on both sides of the street and the owner cooks on a grill lots of fresh fish and meats. Darn we missed out! Next time we will check it out for sure! But I can vouch for the Sangria - good stuff! read more

Wow what a spot!! Authentic food is what you desire then come by here. Was waiting for this place to open due to slow season in October but WELL worth the wait in opening. We met the owner while he was outside grilling for dia de los muertos. We sat down and had some stellar food! Everyone here is super nice, and the street entertainment made for a special eveing. Sitting on the sidewalk, with all the altars around us... A Cat came by and asked us for some food, cause she was hungry too. We shared a few morsels, then she got pushy / scratched us. LOL All in all the grilled Pork and Shrimp was excellente and the chips quesadilla's and beyond were all lovely additions. When I return I will try even more food here. simply divine. read more

We had a wonderful meal here last night. We had planned to go somewhere else, but it was closed..what a happy accident! The grill is going all evening and it smells delicious. I was hoping for fish huachinango, which was not on the menu but they happily agree to make it for me. The fantastic waiter, Mauricio, brought out 3 red snapper from the chef to offer me. I chose the mid sized one. My husband was in the mood for some steak tacos, which were also not on the menu. Since they had a steak entree on the menu, we thought we would ask. Again, they enthusiastically agreed and even offered 2 different cuts of meat. The patio is charming and is it right across the narrow street from the actual restaurant. A gal from the kitchen came out and cut herbs from a potted basil plant they have growing on the patio. The fish was cooked perfectly and the tacos were delicious. The chef (owner?) came out to every table...he had so much pride in his cooking. He also spoke with all of the locals that came down the street. ..you can tell he is well loved and respected. After dinner, Mauricio even brought me hand sanitizer!! He was so pleasant, accommodating and aware. Loved this place...the entire experience was fantastic!! Seriously gourmet local food, and the street cafe ambiance is more Euro than Europe. We saw the whole tuna delivered personally, directly from the Pacific Ocean by the panguero while we were having drinks, and Mauricio seared it to perfection. Delicious food, excellent service and probably the best drinks we had all trip. My husband and I were craving fantastic Mexican food and this restaurant doesn't disappoint. Our server (the chefs nephew) was so attentive and made sure that we were taken care of. The chef walked through each special and once our food came, stopped by to ensure that it was done right. For food and drink- I had 3 sangrias and they were so good that I asked for the recipe (never would have thought tequila and Fresca would make a world of difference). My husband had a Pina colada with real coconut and pineapple blended. Dinner was fish tacos and grilled chicken which was flavorful and filling. Dessert consisted of flan (best ever) and fried bananas. They presented our bill with some chocolates and I couldn't have been happier. Overall, a local gem and one that I would recommend. This is a family-run eatery where care and pride are evident in every bite.
