Tuna Chepinita (seared tuna on a bed of corn tamale, with a hoisin sauce and plum compote)

We came here after seeing photos of an intriguing menu and excellent dishes, and now we are going to contribute the same in this review. The restaurant opened at 15:00 and we were there anticipating this as our choice for an early supper ( or late lunch). We were seated in slightly uncomfortable chairs, but when asked, the manager moved a large fan closer to us so we could cool down from a hot walk around town. The table was clean and the waiter placed nice paper place mats down as we were served our first drinks. We started with water and coke but upgraded to cocktails later. All the drinks were tasty and the cocktails were among the nicest we've had in Zihua. For a shared appetizer we had the Nejitas - three warm folded tortillas with a filling of huitlacoche (corn smut) and with the best guacamole we've ever had and a couple of delicious salsas! After eating the Nejitas, the waiter offered fried yucca and sweet potato chips so we could finish the salsas off. For our mains, we order the Chamorro (pork loin, perfectly roasted with a nice crunchy skin) and the Tuna Chepinita! We had no room for dessert but really wanted to try the three types of churros. Our waiter was polite, attentive and gracious. She spoke no English, which we found refreshing and we enjoyed practicing our Spanish (por ahora = a few more minutes). The bathrooms are clean and stylish. We will make a return trip here.

Absolutely amazing. The chef has a brilliant gem here. The food is elevated but still authentic Guerrero cuisine. Hands down best restaurant in Zihu, top 5 I have ever had. The quality and pricing you can't beat.

We had researched the area on our Mapquest and found El Galeon. We went to their website ( which brought us to YELP) where we found they were rated 4.7 out of 5 stars. (The lone "2/3" star came from someone who stated that she had lasagna which was cold but the service fixed the issue after what she felt was a long time) All the other ratings were 5/5 star with many mentions of Francisco who was their waiter.( more of Francisco later). The walk was a 6 min walk from our condo, so we decided we would make El Galeon our evening dining experience. We approached the entrance just off the Mariana where we were met by none other than Francisco himself. He greeted us with smiles and in a very polite and friendly voice he asked if we had made reservations ( we had not) he took us to a very nice table where my wife and I sat comfortably awaiting menus. I made mention to Francisco as to the reviews that brought us to El Galeon with many making mention specifically to him and his great service. He was surprised in hearing people had mentioned him directly and was appreciative.. he lived up to the reviews, the food was amazing (we had shrimp cocktail to start, margaritas and wine to quench our thirst and for the main entrees my wife had pomodoro and I had fettuccini Alfredo.) large portions served with garlic toast. DELICIOUS! Highly recommend!
