$2 tacos, with tough meats, chewy tortillas, not digging them.
    Carla S.

I tried a few of the tacos here, and I'm not a big fan. Meats were too tough and chewy, and they fry their tortillas long enough to partially crisp them, only compounding the chewiness. Kudos to the fresh tortillas, but simply warming the tortillas and leaving them soft may help some. I'll break down the meats. Al pastor was the better of the bunch, but still only just okay..large and saucy diced chunks of pork, sauce a little bland for me, flavor reminded me of a meat stew. Asada was even tougher, with too much gristle I had to spit out. Carnitas wet and chewy, tasted unseasoned. For $2-3 each they are the standard street taco size, and all but the all pastor could use a little more filling, and veggies on all were a bit light. The folks running the place were very friendly. Though it was hard to order over the phone. The man didn't prefer communicating in English, and then passed my husband off to a woman with little knowledge of the menu and none of prices. I can't speak to the rest of their menu, but there are much better places for tacos nearby. But I do hear good things about their Mexican-style hamburger. Next time.

This burger was amazing! I've also tried the chilaquiles and tacos w rice and beans and they were delicious! I also recommend the torta it's HUGE and super tasty. Highly recommend this place. Customer service is awesome everyone is so friendly and helpful with any questions I had about the food. The drinks were delicious I had a horchata but they also have tamarindo and agua de piña Cheese, salsa, and chips are served as soon as you get there too! Super delicious!!!!

I've been slacking on the food posts (and it's not for lack of food Inspo) THERE ARE JUST SO MANY GOOD PLACES I CANT KEEP UP! A few weeks ago my good friend Diana posted this really cute taqueria so I had to check it out. I got Asada and Tripitas.... I can't eat tripitas unless they are extra crispy... so I had to send them back for some Carnitas, they were pretty good! I was immediately in love with the decor though. All the childhood Mexican idols just all over the place, too freaking cute.

I have not been big on Mexican food. This is in part due to my ignorance of the variety that it offers, and my deathly fear of cilantro(which seems to be in every dish at other places I have been to). Furthermore, my experience with Mexican food is somewhat tainted by chain restaurants. You would think me being a Chinese, and having bear witness to the Americanizing of my people's food, I would be wiser. So it was that I find myself in for a real treat at El Milagro. The decor is very down to earth. From the outside, one would not think much of it; but what it lacks in showmanship, it more than makes for by superb quality in food. Everything is freshly made, you can even peek into the spacious kitchen as they make it. They offer generous portion of chips and salsa. The chips are amazing - crisp, non greasy. They offer several salsa ranging in varying degrees of hotness, and also queso which is done just right (at least you don't actively feel your artery clogging). For beverage, I highly recommend the horchata. I struggle with deciding on the main course as the selection is plenty, and the pictures provided on the wall makes each very enticing. The cow tongue is a rare find, and I definitely recommend it to those who has never had it before. I went with the carne asada, and was extremely pleased with the outcome. The portion was generous, and the soft corn tortillas that came with the meal was great. What I love about this place is that it is not pretentious. Things are made from scratch, and prepared as one would expect from a home cook meal. We weren't rushed in anyway. Just a good sit down restaurant with a mom and pop vibe. It is nice to experience so raw a cultural exchange so close to Oklahoma City, I definitely cherished it. I hope others can too. Tips: Bring cash. Don't be shy with pointing at the pictures and asking about the food. Save room for the flan.

Some items were better than others. They provide you with complimentary chips, queso, roasted pepper salsa, and green salsa (see photo). The things to avoid when eating here: ...the orange "nacho cheese" tasting queso, it tastes exactly like the kind you get at the movie theater and it was cold. Yuck. ...the asada meat, it tastes very "cow-e" and it kinda grossed me out. Maybe it needed more seasoning?? ...the licuado smoothie drinks, it was served "room temperature" (it's supposed to be cold), and it wasn't very tasty. Mainly just tasted like chocolate milk, I ordered it with strawberries and bananas in it as well, and I couldn't taste the strawberries at all. Things you can eat here: ... the shrimp ceveche tostadas are good. Maybe the best thing they served. ...the adobada taco was tasty. I've never had this kind of taco before. It was pork with pineapple chunks in a red chili type sauce. At first I thought that the pineapples were just chunks of fat and I was removing them, then I tried one of the chunks and was pleasantly surprised! This place features a large menu besides just serving tacos, but overall I was unimpressed with this restaurant compared to other taquerias I have been to. They just don't offer enough great tasting tacos (or anything else) to make me want to come back. But that's just me, I wish them luck. The restaurant was very clean and the staff was friendly.

An array of really fresh and tasty salsas and quesos.

Ambiance: Very loud live music and chaotic in general. More chaotic than a standard Mexican restaurant. One visit, tacos were being cooked outside on a Santa Maria style grill. Food: Birria Tacos are the best thing on the menu. Cheesy, juicy, and packed with flavor. Topped with cilantro and wonderful consommé. The white sauce is a great addition as well as the green sauce. The Pin Wheels are not the best for the salsa. The salsa is mediocre and also spicy. The Surf and Turf Quesadillas are cheesy and packed with meat. The same meal as a burrito is good, but not preferred over the quesadillas. The Ceviche is out of this world. A heaping portion of perfectly citrus and not too fishy. The only meal that was not good was the Marlin Quesadilla. It was too fishy and tasted like fishy BBQ.

We didn't get photos of all of our food, but everything we tried was really enjoyable. The service was attentive, and our waitress was very patient with us as first-timers, I had a few questions about how some of the menu items were prepared, and she was happy to help. Nice use of space isn't as it's not the largest restaurant- there's a bar area, then a layout of tables and booths that would work great for large groups. Will return again the next time we're in OKC area to grab a patio seat.

There were plenty of tables and places to sit. The hostess got us to a table and we sat and ordered our food and talked and caught up. There was this guy I can only assume he must've been a manager, he kept hovering over our table, making sure our drinks were filled even after we had got through eating and just kept hovering like he was waiting for us to leave. I looked around the restaurant and there were plenty of tables that were empty. So I don't understand why he was hovering over us and trying to rush us out of the restaurant. It was probably the worst experience I've ever had at this restaurant. I don't know if he was just racist or if he was just being an asshole, but either way if someone comes in to pay for a meal and is sitting down and talking in the restaurant isn't busy. I don't see why there's a reason for you to turn around and try and force people out. To say the whole experience turned me off and I will probably not go back to this restaurant for a while.

It was very busy when we walked in but there was no wait. We were thankfully seated immediately and started off with chips and salsa. The chips were nice and crispy, but the salsa was mediocre. The tomatoes tasted canned. While I can totally get the efficiency behind using canned tomatoes for a busy restaurant, the taste is not preferred. The kids chicken quesadilla plate was a good amount of food! I just wish the quesadilla was already sliced as it was for our 3 year old. The chicken was also bland. Again, the portions were great. My son ordered the Burrito La Herencia with ground beef and this was seasoned well. Again, great portions of beans, rice & main dish. No complaints with this one! My spouse ordered the La Herencia fajita special and felt as if it was lacking. The steak pieces were minuscule and the shrimp was bland and undercooked. The pork chop was thinly sliced which was nice but VERY salty. We were wishing for more peppers and onions as well. Overall this dish was salty, but tolerable! It came with a side plate of rice, beans, pico de gallo, guac, sour cream & lettuce. Served with flour tortillas. We ordered the queso & guac while we were looking at the menu and waiting. I personally did not enjoy the queso. It was thick and had an artificial mouth feel. The guac was decent! Bland overall but I love the taste of avocado. I wish it had more lime and seasoning though since it was supposed to be Guacamole and not avocado dip. I ordered the Steak Mexicano with extra jalapeños and this was very good. Still on the salty side but I enjoy things on a SLIGHTLY saltier range. My spouse thought the steak was TOO salty. The peppers, onions, and tomatoes were nicely sautéed and seasoned. The rice here is also DELICIOUS. I hate a bland Mexican rice. The beans were good too but nothing to write home about. I do wish I was offered a side of corn tortillas. Overall this experience was okay! Not the worst but definitely not the best. The restaurant was beautifully decorated but there was a noticeable lack of music. We were sat listening to the chatter of all the different customers and kitchen noises. We did have the option of booth or table AND they have boosters seats/ high chairs upon request.
