Our meal was fantastic. We had an appetizer, followed by my duck and my wife's fish courses. The duck came with green beans and prunes in a wonderful sauce. For dessert, I had what was probably the best chocolate mousse of my life. It contained chunks of butterscotch and was finished with a carmel sauce. The mousse itself was so rich. I was in heaven. My wife had a strawberry meringue dessert. It was good but my mousse was better. They have a small dining room and a pretty large patio on the street. Ha ha, actually the patio is across the small street. So it was entertaining watching the very efficient waiters work their way across to take care of the diners. I highly recommend LouLou. For the price we're getting for lunch, it was a steal. The magret was delicious - just missing a bit of flavor in my opinion. Maybe pepper which was on the side? But perfectly cooked. My mom loved the mashed potatoes as she was getting a bit sick of chips (fries) LOL. The seasoned vegetables were soooo good. So much flavor rather than just the normal steamed broccoli we've been having. The sirloin was definitely missing a lot of flavor. I don't think it was seasoned as there was salt and pepper on the table to add to it. But there was a sauce we weren't sure of to give it some flavor. The sea bream was sauced nicely, but was quite heavy in my opinion. The presentation of it was beautiful though. Potato chips, whole potato and flavored mashed potatoes? all in one dish with the fish. Yum! I enjoyed the mashed potatoes? a lot. The restaurant also provided complimentary bread AND small canned pork pate. Nowhere else we've been gave complimentary pate. The meat was flavorful, tender, and cooked exactly as requested. The thick-cut fried potatoes were crisp outside, fluffy inside, and among the best side dishes we had during our trip. We did have a nice bottle but not necessarily something that blew our minds. I expected a better wine list for such a classic Bordeaux restaurant. Last, the food was a bit average. My wife and I shared the Chateaubriand, Pot au Feu, and fries. The steak was very good, but the food in the Pot au Feu was a bit bland and soft -- we didn't eat much of it. We also got a crème brûlée to share-only our third. Strangely, a lot of restaurants didn't offer it. This one was odd-more of a reconstructed creme brûlée. It was good, but there was very little crust and some kind of nutty topping. Weird. But still good. We also had a glass of Bordeaux wine each, as usual during this trip, not one we had at a prior restaurant. The variety of Bordeaux wines was incredible. These glasses were fantastic, of course. So 4 stars because the fois gras wasn't good (to me, but I just don't like it; you might love it if you like that kinda thing) and for the weird, still tasty but not perfect, creme brûlée.
