In fact it's more akin to the local stores found all over the Middle East (Lebanon, Syria, Jordan) - in that it operates as a full grocery store despite existing in what can be best compared to a shoe-box! Pros: If you live in the neighbourhood ~ it's a great place to get fresh produce (arriving daily). Marche Mizan distinguishes itself from other like places in the area by being very well stocked (almost overflowing). They have a butcher in the back - very clean - and serve both Halal and Kosher meats. Prices are very reasonable too - even by the relatively higher depaneur standards. Lastly, they have a wide selection of fresh nuts (roasted, salted, plain) as well as dried fruits - the only place in the downtown Concordia area to do so. Cons: Crowded and often messy (too little space for too many things) ~ if you can help it don't shop around 5-6pm, that's when the rush is on. Makes for some difficult maneuvering. Happy eating.

Pad Kaprao (Vegan): stir-fried tofu and Quebec mushrooms with holy basil, served with jasmine rice. The waitress warned me that it was very spicy and asked if I wanted it less spicy. I said yes to that and it was still very spicy for me. Beware of the red chillies! The jasmine rice saved me! :P I would definitely visit again.

Gaeng massaman gai - the one dish that was just ok in my opinion which is odd since I usually love red curry. Not sure what was lacking but something was a bit off. Since the pad pak boong came with a huge plate of rice, asked the waitress to not bring another serving. Pad thai - pretty tasty and noticed almost all patrons ordering this dish. Wished I could've subbed the shrimp for chicken. Quebec lobster - this was one of the main reasons for dining here as I kept seeing IG posts about this. Sadly, this was a disappointing dish. The lobster really didn't have any meat and thought it was weird they served it with what tasted like salsa verde. Khao neeo mamuang - great way to end the meal. Perfectly cooked glutinous rice w/ an ample amount of coconut milk. Was surprised at how sweet the mango was. Almost as good as Mae Varee in BKK!! I decided that this wasn't enough to justify a bad rating since this establishment is one-of-a-kind in Montreal. Also the grocery section is just perfect! The butchers at Sabor Latino are very talented and always have fair prices. This allows me to make my own food like carnitas or tacos with yummy cuts of beef blade roasts (recommended!) They have wonderful fresh veggies and fruits as well. Lots of delicious drinks, good frozen seafood selection, with Oaxacan fresh cheese, and arrepas as well. The workers are always friendly and speak to me in Spanish. Love this place.

No clue what that meant, so I grabbed one (I wouldn't last long on Survivor), and an Aloe drink (decided against beer). Paid about C$4, in cash. The drink was good, and the sandwich was fine for what it was, where it was. The sheen on the sandwich freaked me out when I first unwrapped it, but it ended up being satisfying overall, with pickles, cold cuts, and jalapenos.

The price is right too. Super friendly staff, and I love the business model, giving lots of creative freedom to the chef, not being boxed in by the same meals every day. There are two daily noodle options to choose from (varies between soup / noodles with sauce / warm / cold). The two options vary a lot, but there's always one that's with meat and one that's vegetarian, often with tofu and vegetables. It's often spicy and always has great depth of flavour. The ingredients taste fresh and there seem to be an effort put into choosing local and seasonal products. Watch out to go somewhat close to opening time as they tend to sell out in the early afternoon! There's also a fridge with a few other options you can purchase (ex. fried rice, smashed cucumber, eggplants). The cook and the front of store lady are both very kind and welcoming. This place seems pretty successful already, wish them all the best!
