My wife and I were very disappointed in multiple aspects of this restaurant. I haven't written a review in a long time since I typically only write reviews when it's positive, but I would've liked to know this beforehand. The restaurant smells of smoke when you walk in. I smelled the salmon that the table had as we walked by as well, which typically isn't a good sign for cooked fresh salmon. I got a special, cassoulet and a side, wood fired kabocha squash. The cassoulet didn't taste of anything really. My wife described the food as "gray". It was also $48 which was conveniently left out of the description the server gave me. The kabocha squash wasn't bad, but nothing to write home about. The server was fine, quickly there to get drink and food orders and the check. The woman who I presume is the owner went around to every table to greet the diners but left ours out. She also brought the food out to every table but ours. The total was nearly $200 due to a 20% dine in service fee where "66% goes to staff who cooked and served" where does the other third go then? The 20% should be the tip, and should go to staff. I felt obligated to add a tip on top for the server, as it felt she was being treated unfairly by the restaurant. Will not be back, and advise others to stay away unless they make changes. read more

We were excited to visit Bainbridge island for the first time ever, and this was our first dinner on the island. We had a reservation at 7, and showed up at 6, and they were so happy to seat us. I loved that they had a Glassybaby votive on every table. It was our anniversary, so we wanted to go somewhere nice and split some things. We ordered: oysters, French onion soup, bread rolls, and a caesar salad with anchovies. I also had a glass of sparkling wine and my husband had a beer. We had amazing service, the hostess and the waitress were so great! The missing stars are for the lack of flavor in the Caesar salad and the bread roll. The bread was just very blah, and I love French cuisine so it was a little disappointing. The same can go for the Caesar dressing. I can definitely tell it was made in house, but it was lacking some flavor, same for the croutons. For a $22 salad, I would expect it to be awesome in flavor. The French onion soup was definitely 5/5 and same for the oysters - highly recommend both of those. The other missing star was for the confusing "dine in fee" which was 20% of our bill. I've not seen this before - and I review all over Seattle. There was a note on the receipt that says 66% goes to the waitress - but where does the rest go? To the owner? I hated that. If you force a gratuity- it should 100% go to the server. We didn't tip on top of that because I was confused at the entirety of it. I wish I could have my entire 20% go to the waitress. If you want a fine dining experience that feels like you're on the set of "punk'd," this place is for you. The outside hasn't changed since it opened and was actually refined, so it still looks upscale. Once inside, it gives very strong Cracker Barrel vibes: the framed posters of herbs provided the perfect atmospheric compliment for the basic menu: meatloaf, chicken pot pie, and other Cracker Barrel specialties. The pasta of the day was overpriced Mac and cheese. We ordered the shrimp starter, I had the Five Vegetable plate, and my husband got the meatloaf. I also had a glass of the brut rosé. The service was so slow that we had to order bread to tide us over before the app arrived. I immediately recognized the $5 roll as the frozen mini baguettes from Trader Joe's. I thought maybe they would taste better than that, but nope. If they are not from Trader Joe's, I would be shocked. The shrimp was grilled on top of wilted greens. You really needed the greens to help the monumental salt from the shrimp. My tongue was burnt from so much salt. Half an hour later, the entrees arrived. The 5 vegetable Plate was a miracle of epic failure. The cauliflower could hardly be cut without a steak knife. It was almost raw with no seasoning. The beets were boiled. The bok choy was soaked in some salty sauce until it was brown, then cooked till wilted beyond recognition. The acorn squash had the consistency of glue paste. But the crown achievement was the "flan" in the middle. I am still not quite sure what it was trying to be, but it was not a flan. It was more like scrambled eggs with the consistency of sand. I took one bite of each veg and did something I have never done in my life - I sent it back to the kitchen. I had a bite of my husband's meatloaf, which had the consistency of wet dog food. One of the best dinners we've had on Bainbridge. Interesting dishes with good ingredients. Occasionally the execution isn't up to the standard it's trying to achieve but it's still good. Love the flavor of the pumpkin flan, though it's sometimes a tad overcooked. And the burger is solid. Last pasta special I tried was a very good mac & cheese, although it didn't add up to an entree for me. Needed another element to balance all the cream and cheese. Service is very nice although they often don't tell you the price of something listed as "market price". The diner shouldn't have to ask. The decor could use an update as it's pretty Home Depot / 90's Olive Garden. But this is minor. Nice to have a place like this on the island. read more

I had heard good things about this restaurant and so was really looking forward to dinner there. And wow, was I ever disappointed. In every possible way. The food, the prices, the services and the ambiance/comfort. A veritable trifecta of disappointments. I ordered a $30 steak cobb salad. $30! It arrived and it consisted of a flat bed of lettuce , clearly from a clam shell, some bacon bits from a jar, a few halved cherry tomatoes, some gooey cheap blue cheese and some steak strips. It was flat as a pancake - I've never seen such an uninteresting tasteless cobb salad. My friend ordered a $42 steak and fries and it was grilled steak (same as on my salad) and a plate literally smothered in fries. No salad, no greens, no nothing. We waited probably 15 minutes before getting up to request menus and drink service. It was very hot and we were all very thirsty. Then it took another 30 minutes at least before our meals came. And don't get me started on the chairs! We sat outside, so I can't comment on what the chairs are like inside. Maybe they are better. But the chairs outside are small and metal. They are shallow and cut into one's thighs at about the half way mark. The chair "backs" have thin metal strips at the top and then a huge opening, so your back just falls through it, with absolutely no support. So you pretty much have to sit up straight and not lean back or else by the end of the evening your back is shaped like a big "U". I guess they're designed to keep the clientele moving. :) All in all a huge disappointment. Save your money. Find a better restaurant. read more

We went for my husband's Birthday and were underwhelmed and disappointed. We used to love this restaurant as it was consistently good (quality of food and service). Not so much this time around. We ordered the mussels, there were overcooked with no broth. Steak was ordered medium rare, it arrived well. French fries seemed like they were from a bag. Coffee arrived cold. For $350, we expected more. Maybe it was an off night but the head chef seemed frustrated while the sous-chefs were joking around and seemed to care less. Won't be back anytime soon. read more

Restaurant Marche is located amongst the super cute strip of beautiful shops on Winslow Way on Bainbridge Island. It is actually NOT on Winslow Way, but a short walk north from it right on closed Madrone Lane. I've been meaning to try this place since I read about their CHICKEN LIVER PATE. Something about the way the prep the dish would make you abandon your reservations about chicken liver. I personally like liver pates so I figured it would be mind-blowing. Though my mind was not blown, I wasn't thoroughly disappointed either. The MUSSEL AND FRITES however blew my mind. Really really liked the way the mussel was prepped and seasoned. The SALMON WITH SALAD was not overcooked and the salad was well dressed. Ordered the CHEESE PIZZA, essentially, for the kids. I know, man, they need to be trained! They add a 20% "service fee" to your bill, which gets divided between the restaurant and the staff. Since they don't make this clear upfront I will. To the restaurant: if you need to raise your prices, just do so! Don't resort to shady tactics like tacking on service fees to the final bill. I doubt I'll return for this reason alone. After an otherwise delicious dinner I felt tricked. If I'd known your real prices I might have skipped the appetizer or the drink. That said, the food was great, and the service was good. Too bad the bait and switch cast a cloud over an otherwise enjoyable evening. read more

Marché is boring but consistent. The service is fantastic, and even though the menu is a little tired, it's done very well. Your steak will be the right temperature, your salmon will have crispy skin, and your oysters will be shucked correctly. I really have no complaints other than I wish they would throw one unexpected, flavorful option on the menu to change it up a bit. Surprise me! Also, I have to mention the 20% service fee is absurd. Not the fact that the have it, just the way they worded it on the check. 66% goes to the servers and 33% goes to the back of the house, but I had to ASK because it's not at all clear on my bill. It only says that 66% goes to the people that "helped prepare and serve my food." That left me wondering if the restaurant was pocketing the other 33%... It also left me having to figure out very specific math to appropriately tip my server, and I didn't appreciate that after a couple glasses of wine. read more

Wow! Wow! Wow! This place left me craving for more!! I can absolutely go on and on about the food. We were a party of 2, ordered grilled cheese sandwich with a side of salad, wheat waffles with maple syrup, whipped cream and butter, deviled eggs, and a side of potato fries with sea salt. First off, they served home made bread with butter which was warm, crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. Warm and filling. The deviled eggs were delicious, yummy and flavorful. Grilled sandwich grilled to perfection with just the right amount of cheese, crunch and yumminess. The fries were crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. Just as I wanted. Waffles take the cake, deliciously warm, soft and flavorful. Maple syrup and whipping cream with roasted fruits was heaven on earth. Absolutely recommend the place if you visit Bainbridge, you will love the service + food! read more

Clearly an off night for our party of 5. I try to overlook reopening hiccups, but the service from start to finish was lax, uncaring, amateurish and interminably slow. We were seated, given water and menus, then completely ignored for 20+ minutes. Ordered a bottle of wine, then nothing for another 15 minutes. 30 more minutes before food started appearing. Waiter said he was leaving toward end of meal but said someone else would take over. No one ever did. I had to get up and seek out someone to give us a bill. We were surprised and disappointed to see a 20% gratuity added to bill. It was not warranted on this occasion, but certainly explains why the service was so bad. read more

This has been one of our go to restaurants for special occasions for years. Never again. The food was several levels below their usual standards. The service was just dreadful, and they just seem to have lost their way. I had to go find our server to even get the bill so we could leave and I saw this with another party before us. Mind you, this was a good 20 minutes after we had finished our meal. We were never asked if we wanted another glass of wine, whether our meals were satisfactory, if we wanted coffee, or even if we were still breathing. The icing was the $25 dine in service fee which was taxed and never mentioned prior to the arrival of the bill. How do you charge a service fee without service? Don't bother. Restaurant Marche is a wonderful cozy place just off the Winslow Way. Reservations are highly recommended.  The hostess and servers genuinely looked very happy to be there. A rare trait now a days! They give a complimentary chip with sour cream which sets a nice anticipation. The menu covers a lot of options but sadly the vegetarian options aren't up to the mark. When asked if the Chef can make something, the answer came that Chef is unresponsive. When asked if the flatbread can be made Entree size, the answer was all dishes are pre-portioned. Not expected out of a fine dining restaurant where even the fries cost $9.  We had the following: 1. Tarte Flambe - practically a flat bread with side of small salad. Good taste. 2. Shigoku Oysters - Friends told this was good. 3. Market Vegetable Plate - Sad. Small serving portion of 5 different vegetables. Not at all worth $22 4. Wood fired Salmon - Friends told this was excellent 5. Lamb Chops - Friends told this was outstanding. All in all, the experience is wonderful. Service is great. So much fun!!! Girls brunches are always the best when you have friends like mine. And this place totally welcomed it. Came here for a bday day trip! We started here. So much fun!! We were the first people to enter when they first open. But the excitement of it all! Love! Everything from our rose champagne ( several bottles) to their deviled eggs, pea panna cotta and my steak was great! They even made our cake cutting so fun!! Love the fact they allowed substitution. My steak came with French fries: got the beets instead. They were divine! My steak was perfectly rare! The salmon was buttery! And the friendliness of everyone in this place: the best!!' Restaurant Marché is my favorite place to dine at in Bainbridge Island. If you really appreciate food, I recommend sitting at the counter where you can observe the chef and his staff right at work. My date and I got the opportunity to chat with Chef Atkinson during our last meal here, which we highly enjoyed. We even saw some dishes we definitely want to try on our next visit such as their Salade Niçoise. Every time my date and I have ate here so far, we stick with the same dishes just because we instantly fell in love with them. We split the following dishes: Country Pate with pistachios and wrapped in bacon The texture is chunkier but so good! Don't be too shy to ask for bread to go with this. 5 vegetable done in 5 ways Every time we have ordered this dish, the vegetables are always different. Of the five, my favorite is the mousse. I had it in carrot and squash so far and the flavor and texture of these vegetables are amazing! Mussels with fries. The mussels are cooked in fennel, cream and pernod (a type of liquor I believe). The sauce is HEAVENLY to the point where I even dip my fries in it. It does come with aioli, which is also good, but I just can't get enough of the mussel sauce. I haven't had a chance to try their dessert offerings except their creme brulee, which you can't go wrong with here. Service is great at Marché. The servers are very kind and have great memory if a person has dined here in the past. Highly Recommended! read more

Everything here should be half the price due to the quality and the portions of the food. What they call a sandwich should be called a slider (namely the BBQ pork Sandwich). What they call a bowl is a plate (namely clam chowder bowl). Value is the ratio between what you pay and what you get, unfortunately this restaurant offers a poor value for the food. Staff is friendly and the environment is nice for the pandemic is the outdoor seating is large and heated. The food is comparable to what you can get at a cheap fast food restaurant, at least for what we ordered. I only write this review in hopes that the owners can take it to heart and make the necessary improvements that local small restaurants need to hold a standard for. read more

Was it a Costco burger? I had dinner at Restaurante Marché on Saturday evening, my guest was pleased with the Salad Nicoise whilst I was happy with the tasty French Onion soup (albeit a little pricey). However... The "Royale with Cheese" was something that Jules and Vicent Vega would not have been pleased about nor was I. Apart from the waiter ignoring my preference of "doneness" (if you are not going to pass it onto the chef then why ask?); the meat was tough and honestly tasted like a Costco frozen burger patty cooked by my eight-year-old at the family BBQ! It was overcooked (asked for medium got well done), was tough and tasteless. The fries were left under a heat lamp for way too long before being served, and the final insult was the $4 for "Red Onion Jam" which was nothing more than some sautéed red onions. If ye are going to be pretentious and frankly mildly rude... (yup, I am talking about the maitre d') then at least have cuisine to back it up. Frankly, I didn't need the drama to complain as it felt like the lady would not have been receptive to my feedback. I'm going to need another compelling reason to visit Bainbridge (given the current almost $50 ferry charge) but Restaurante Marché isn't it. read more

Headed to Bainbridge for the day for a little light tourism outside the city. We got to Restaurant Marche right when they opened up so service was quick as most tables were still empty. Wanted to go easy on the lunch so we were stuffed and miserable while out walking the town. I had the soup of the day, a corn chowder. Wowza, so good! A thin yet silky smooth broth filled with corn, potato and bacon. It was soul soothing food! We paired this with some simple deviled eggs, and I was absolutely giddy. Nothing special or overdone about these eggs - they're exactly as deviled eggs should be. No fancy, just simple and perfect. Next was the Tarte Flambe, a thin and crispy crust topped with bacon, carmelized onion and a touch of cheese. Oh my! It was tremendously flavorful and not heavy at all. Hubby chose the Mussels & Fries. The mussels were GINORMOUS. The largest we've ever seen, so large we couldn't help but laugh at the ridiculousness of it. And of course the fries with garlic aioli - always a hit. Overall, an adorable bistro. Located one block off Winslow Way, this place is a definite hit and better than expected. Definitely go here! I don't understand the rave reviews of this restaurant. My family of 8 went on Christmas Eve and I have never been so disappointed. The service was wonderful but the food was terrible. Pasta with little to no sauce was served on ice cold plates, meatloaf was almost plain ground meat with what appeared to be ketchup. Serving sizes were small but given the quality that was probably good. For these prices I would expect superb food. Sadly not the case. I appreciate people working on Christmas Eve but we have much better food at home. read more

My husband and I came here for our anniversary since we have a tradition of eating at French restaurants to celebrate. We were seated at the kitchen-view bar area and it was so fun to watch the chiefs and staff work. Delicious, unpretentious and fresh organic food. The service was excellent. This is a place to sit and savor. I would not recommend coming here if you don't have time to really enjoy! The muscles were amazing. The biggest and most tasty I've had. read more

We did come to Bainbridge once just to try this place and realized half way that the restaurant is closed on Sundays and Mondays. So we decided to just hop on the ferry on a Friday afternoon and just go to restaurant Marche. About an hour later, we were sitting in the outdoor seating area of Restaurant Marche being proud of our spontaneity. They have a tasting menu that is $69. You get a four-course meal without knowing what the courses are. Chef likes to surprise you and I like that. You can inform them of any dietary restrictions, but other than that, it is a surprise. So we decided to go a tasting menu, but also ordered a fois gras, duck breast and some asparagus to share. Due to the time constraints, we decided to get he dishes in a 4-course meal instead of 6 courses. So some dishes were served at the same time. Service was good. The waiters were courteous and nice and attended to all our needs. The Fois gras was really good, but the duck breast was only ok. We also got a king salmon, morel and mushrooms on a filo like pastry, a sirloin filet and a rose petal ice cream as our dessert. Every item was good, but to be honest, none of the items wowed me. Nothing was exceptionally spectacular. Something that would bring me back. That happened to me in Altura, but unfortunately did not happen here or even in Canlis. I am really glad I tried this place. I eat here at least once a month to scratch my Francofile itch. Definitely great food.

We took the ferry over to Bainbridge from Seattle as a family of four plus our dog for a day of adventure. When arriving on the island hungry looking for a place to dine as a family and even though many restaurants are supposedly dog friendly we found out that many did not accept dogs or did not allow kids in the outside patio areas. Marche was different, we were welcomed with open arms with our well behaved Bernadoodle. The food and cocktail was amazing, the service was friendly and the pace was perfect for the day. Compared to the fasted paced city of Seattle across the water I welcomed the slower pace which matched my feeling as soon as I stepped onto Bainbridge. Thanks for a wonderful meal. read more
