Hey that is highly suspect if you're from South India then you know. They also had palak paneer, freshly made which would be served with rice. I thought the paneer samosa ($5) and the regular potato masala samosa ($3) were very good. Served with a smidgen of tamarind sauce. Lovely little tables set up outside to eat al fresco. The mediocre rating is because the selection of Indian groceries is sparse for the shelf space. The tea selection was low, and the snacks range was limited. On the other hand, the frozen chapatis were remarkably on-point with the right mix of naan/roti/chapati variations (including ajwain and methi rotis). If looking for standard Indian kitchen pantry, it's got all the bases covered. Yes, mango and lime pickles! The fresh vegetables section was neatly arranged and included curry leaves. It was a thoughtful curation, yet it left me wanting because it didn't have the full gamut of teas and options. They could easily cram more selection/stock/inventory in the space they have. It seemed like an upgraded corner store, and if I lived in this neighborhood I would LOVE to have this store with its Indian pantry staples in walking distance. It's a gift! I come all the way from Bainbridge Island to this store and I consider it awesome that I can get from the ferry to here on one bus and get my Indian staples!

Everything was delicious. We had bolognese, halibut, mushroom bruschetta, calamari, french dip, and mushroom risotto. I didn't get a photo of the bruschetta. It. Was. Crazy. Good. The bread was so yummy. My oldest son got the french dip and he was hoping it was on the same type of bread and was a tiny disappointed it wasn't. Mushroom risotto had a lovely variety of mushrooms and was very light for a risotto. My kids had bolognese and loved it. They stated it was very flavorful and loved the wide noodles. My husband had the halbut and the fish was a good portion size with the sides complimented it well. We will definitely be returning.

The gentleman at the front of the house was running everything on his own and did an amazing job managing the steady flow of customers. It was so nice to see regulars coming in--he knew them by name and they clearly knew him, which created such a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The food was very good! I ordered a soup and a sandwich, which isn't something I usually go for, but I really enjoyed it. I would love to come back and try their dinner menu, especially if it includes more protein options. I would definitely revisit!

The udon were really good but if you let them sit for a long time they get a bit soggy and lose their texture, mainly a concern if you eat really slow though. Broth was also great, just a tiny bit of spice really added to it Overall I'd definitely come back here!

Writing this sucks and also I feel like I'm giving a completely honest and fair review of last night (Friday, June 19, 2026) from 7 to 8:30pm ish. Two hairs - one in my kaisen champon, one in my partner's niku udon. A dead bug in the niku udon. A staff member walking the floor actively bleeding from his nose with a napkin stuffed into it. Any one of these on its own would have been a rough night. All three in the same meal is something else ‍ The kitchen is small and open so you can see and hear everything, which meant we also got a front row seat to the chef yelling at his staff multiple times throughout the evening. The team was clearly working hard and seemed genuinely understaffed, but the kitchen felt like it was coming apart at the seams. We were in line to order for about five minutes, during that time we heard the employee at the register say to the man in front of us that there is no more summer special cold udon flight. Bummer, but totally understand. The menus are acrylic boards at the ordering counter, there were two for the two specials and they were left up when we went to order. The employee told me that unfortunately they have run out of the other special (not the flight). She turned around to do something else for a bit, came back, so I ordered the flight and she said they don't have that either. LOL okay!! No worries! I asked if any of the udon can be made cold? She asked the head chef. He yells back that he has no time for this. Like a good one minute lecture, yelling at the staff. So sorry I made him yell at this poor girl I ordered kaisen champon and my partner ordered the niku udon. We waited for a good 30 mins for our food. Fine we like each other enough to spend time with each other and can clearly see it is chaos in the kitchen. We get our food. We didn't get utensils with our food, and were told "I'll grab utensils for you, sorry about that" So we just sat there waiting for utensils. Food is good but there are hairs and a bug ‍ During our time waiting the water wasn't ever filled (it's self serve) so after our food came I asked for water three times, kept getting "I'll refill it". The chawanmushi showed up 20+ minutes after our food, basically as we were finishing. And they don't have to-go containers, which fine, but worth knowing. I've given this place real chances. Last night felt like a hygiene issue, an understaffed kitchen, and a service breakdown all stacked on top of each other. Usually we go during lunch so maybe that's my recommendation moving forward - I'm giving this place a rest from the rotation for now.

My sister and I dropped by spontaneously for weekend brunch (à Saturday korning around 9:30). There was a bit of a cluster of people waiting for tables, but they were larger groups and we were seated after about 10 minutes. We ordered cocktails while pursuing the menu. My sister enjoys their mimosas and I was curious about the "My name is Earl... Grey". Good choice - dangerously so. Smooth, flavorful, well balanced. Only a light perfume of Earl Grey. We shared our entrees: the harissa carrot hummus tartine and the roasted potato and scallion waffle. (Side note: we indicated our intention to the server, who thoughtfully brought extra plates so we could do that). The tartine was delicious. Just the right amount of spread on a thick slice of sourdough. It wasn't spicy at all; the sweetness of the carrots tempered the heat. A light sprinkle of romanesco and little cubes of feta finished it off. The waffle was a surprise. Crispy, savory, a whisper of sweetness, topped with a dollop of scallion butter. Unique and very flavorful. The homemade biscuit was large and easily shareable. The cappuccinos had a good, rich aroma. A double shot is the standard serving and had sufficient flavor and kick. There were so many interesting things in the menu, making it difficult to decide. I'll just have to come back.

Overall, I'd rate it 4 stars because, while the experience was good, the food didn't quite live up to the hype for me. I tried the Southern Platter with the rosemary biscuits, and I found it to be a bit dry and not as flavorful as I was expecting. On the other hand, the Vitamin C Kombucha was great. Our group ordered a variety of dishes, and the general consensus was that everything was decent but nothing really stood out. That said, I've heard so many positive reviews from friends that I'm willing to give Café Flora another chance and try some of their other menu items. One thing I really appreciated was that they accept reservations for larger groups. We were a party of six, and being able to reserve a table made the experience much smoother by helping us avoid a long wait.
