One of the best - if not the best meal I had during my trip to Portugal. After a visit to nearby…read moreSintra our tour guide recommended a romantic seaside lunch to us, and this place did not disappoint. It's a very high end restaurant with incredible views of the water, serving fresh seafood dishes. Service was impeccable, our waiter was happy to answer questions we had about wine and the menu (and also took an entire photo shoot of us at the end to ensure we'd have it for the memories). I started off with the octopus salad which was light and refreshing, featuring crunchy bell peppers and a light dressing. For the main course I went with the baked fish which was melt in your mouth good, swimming in butter. Paired with green wine from Portugal, it reminded me of that quote about fish - "Fish, to taste right, must swim three times - in water, in butter, and in wine." Absolute perfection. A must visit if you're in the area.

We were seated, and it took forever for our serve to come back to get our drinks and appetizers order. After that 30 minutes for my husband's drink to arrive, mine came about 15 minutes after ordering, not together. Appetizers - tuna tartare and pimentos Padron. Tuna Tartare - chunky pieces of tuna with sweet mangoes and tiny pieces of celery and red onions that compliment it well. Pimentos Padron- a typical Iberian sauté peppers appetizer - could have used a little more flaky salt. For mains, we ordered the lobster risotto and seabass "a la nordata," which was a grilled seabass accompanied with Cilantro rice, sautéed veggies, and a citrusy sauce. Lobster risotto - a bit dry, not creamy as a risotto should be. Seabass "a la nordata" - seabass was flaky and well seasoned, and the veggies buttery with a nice bite still. For dessert, we ordered a flan to share, and I had a port. The flan had a nice consistency to it but a bit bland. The lemon sorbet that accompanied it was delicious! For the Port, I ordered a 2011 Vintage and was served a 2013. How do I know? The server brought it to the table! When I questioned it, she said that they ran out of 2011, but the 2013 is the same thing.... hmmm.... nope, it's not the same thing. I still agreed to it, but I would have liked to have been warned before the pour. Overall, I feel like Michelin steered me wrong this time. It wasn't a bad meal. I just had higher expectations for it. After over a week of delicious food at cheaper restaurants, I expected better service and better food here.

This is the only restaurant in Portugal that asked for a tip. Afterwards I realized they ripped me off because VAT was included in my meal price. Don't fall for the tip is not included, it might be because I am American. My server was on the grumpy side and never once smiled, but I think that is his personality, he smiled for no one. Food: I ordered the pasta with chile, calamari, and shrimp. It was a unique pasta with garlic and tiny amounts of ginger, that played very well and there was like 2 chile rings and then calamari and shrimp. The pasta was cooked perfectly and right amount of sauce that just played well together. The calamari was cooked to perfection as was the shrimp but a few were not cleaned properly but everything tasted good. The chile did have a tiny bite so somebody might think this is spicy but was not for me, finally something with flavor. I did not eat all the pasta because then I ordered the octopus. The octopus was not cleaned properly but the texture was spot on and the taste was great, I added some of my own hot sauce on the side to give it some kick. Odd to have a boiled egg with the octopus, good taste but the green ring indicates the egg was overcooked. Everything was temperature hot and served fairly quickly. WiFi available. I should have just ordered the pasta because that was fantastic! The octopus was okay but took some work to clean. The pasta gives this place a 5. Service and tip with VAT already included would drop to 2. The octopus is 3 stars. But the pasta was the best meal thus far in Portugal.

We were seated at a table where the umbrella didn't do a very good job of shading us. We said something to our server who said she couldn't do anything about it. We moved an umbrella from the unoccupied table next to us, but we couldn't maneuver it well. I only mention this since they wouldn't move us and there were plenty of open, shadier tables. Their selection of fresh fish was very good, but prices were a bit higher than we expected. We received the traditional hard cheese, bread, and olives as an appetizer (which you pay for in Portugal). Then, my wife ordered vegetable soup, and I tried the shrimp rice. The rice had plenty of smaller shrimp in it. The rice was very soupy and didn't have much flavor. The shrimps were good. And I was told the vegetable soup was also a bit bland but did taste good. Although we were both full, we ordered their chocolate mousse cake for desert. It's served with strawberry ice cream and was the highlight of our meal. In retrospect, I should have ordered the fresh cod. If you do want to try it, the views are magnificent and are not to be missed.

Our group ate at this small restaurant called RESTAURANTE O CRÔA. Our tour guide had called ahead so we'd have a table and they had our orders. The waitress was super nice and the place welts cool-with an amazing view of the beach. We started with a complimentary Muscato (a sweet wine and then I ordered a Super Bock beer and Wifey had a glass of their house green wine. For our main meals Wifey went for the Beef Tenderloin with a fried egg and fries-the fried egg with beef is very common here in Portugal and the French fries are served everywhere. I chose the black pork skewer (also came with fries) and can't possibly explain how good it was. The black pork (it's not black, but comes from black pigs) was so tender and flavorful that I practically licked the plate.
