This place was delicious. We happen to have an overnight on the island before heading home. The hotel recommended coming here. The service was fantastic. Wine list was great. Seafood was good. For those that prefer meat, there was many choices as well. Both passion fruit desserts were amazing!!!

Found this place on a small side street after a long day of exploring the island. Luis our waiter is the BEST. One of the friendliest people I've ever met, patient and has great recommendations. He is also a fellow buddy from the northeast of the US. Food is really good....cleaned up our plates. Definitely try the seafood rice in a clay pot and a fresh fried whole fish.

Eh, this place was just OK. I think I'd rate the food 2 stars but our server was excellent so I bumped the overall up to 3 stars. Out of everything that was ordered at our table, the rice with seafood was the best dish. However, that's not saying a whole lot. We started with the limpets / lapas and they were interesting but also pretty chewy. Like really chewy. The fried tuna was completely gray inside and pretty tough; way overcooked. It was a hard gray hockey puck created from tuna. The fried halibut and the red bream were both just 'ok', I think the oil temps were a bit low and it was cooked too long. The end result being a greasy exterior (instead of crisp) and the lower half of the fish was dry. The interior is definitely a more "classical" style and the people working there were nice. As I continued to have more meals in the area, this one ranked towards the bottom.

Hole in the wall place with great service and awesome food

My wife and i were looking for some good seafood late Saturday while stopping over on the way home from the islands at xmas. Found this hole in the wall restaurant which was a pleasant surprise. Luis was our waiter and he spoke Impeccable english since he lived in Yonkers NY for 20 years. His recommended dishes and wine made for a fantastic experience. We always seem to have great food in Sao Miguel and this was one of the best. Will definitely come back some day.

I really don't see how this place gets goid reviews. My waiter was very nice, but I found the food to be nearly inedible. I got the regional beef specialty, which I had at a different restaurant a couple days before and loved it there. Here it tasted like it had been made hours before and just stored in pots. Overcooked broccoli, gravy tasted canned, not very good beef.. but lots of locals were happily eating the same thing, so maybe it was just me. Or maybe it's just been there forever so people go there for nostalgia.

Though delicious, the "goth cheese" made me giggle.

We wandered here on our first night in Ponta Delgada, having no idea where any restaurants were, or how late they were open. We spotted Restaurante Nacional and were, really, just glad there was anything open at all. But after eating there, we were very pleased with our choice. The staff was attentive and humorous, and they had menus in multiple languages (though we only needed English). The food was delicious! They started us with fresh, local bread, queijo fresco, and olives, and my friend and I split a bottle of Faria 's Vineyards red wine. I ordered the shrimp Mozambique which was salty, but delicious. My friends ordered shark, and another fish dish, and both were pleased. If you ever find yourself in Ponta Delgada, don't hesitate to go.

    Delicious codfish

Food was absolutely delicious and the waiter was so friendly. Normally they are packed from what I've heard but we walked in for lunch around 1pm and it was empty on a Friday -- which was great for us! We enjoyed a half bottle of wine, goat cheese with pimento, and two entrees for 30 euros! So affordable and great quality food-- I highly recommend!

A delicious pork loin meal. The pork was juicy and flavorful, and the fries were delicious.

Tenderest lamb I've ever eaten. And I love lamb! Service impeccable. Upscale but comfortable.

The two parties that walked in right after us were not so lucky and were turned away. You can order off menu as well as from the catch of the day, which are all on display and were more than likely swimming that morning. The hostess, and I imagine also the owner, explained what each fresh catch was and how many of each were available. We chose barracuda from the fresh catch and it was perfection. From the menu we chose limpets (which is a local shellfish cooked in garlic and butter) and the fried mackerel, which was mind-blowingly amazing! A complementary shot of a local liqueur is provided post-meal and was a perfect end to a perfect dinner.

It looked (and tasted) like it was caught the same day. We started with the bread and butter along with the limpets (I have never seen these in the US before but my wife and I thought they were delicious). For our entree we split the barracuda that was prepared perfectly - nice char on the outside and perfectly cooked on the inside. We ended up splitting a dessert that was just as good as good as the rest of the meal. The service could not have been better. As we were leaving, the owner (I assume) made it a point to thank us for coming which I thought was a great gesture. I highly recommend this restaurant if you like good, fresh seafood and amazing service. .

Their sangria was very good and not too strong. I ordered the grilled squid with garlic sauce. I posted a picture of it. They gave me alot of squid and even took out the cartilage to make it easier to consume. The taste was good and not too fishy. The food was great and not that expensive either. Thus I cannot attest to their full plates. But I can with their smaller ones, and each one is a winner. Every meal in the Azores will be preceded with bread and cheese. O Corisco's was the best we had. Most places do the typical mushy and bland queso fresco that gets old quickly. Here they provided us a plate of hard cheeses and tons of bread, which were so good we didn't leave a crumb on the plate. Their Caldo Verde soup with diced linguica is pretty darn good, as is their small place of fried linguica and mushrooms. The highlight here though is their little lounge area near the big-screen television. It's not just a restaurant, but also a place to chill. Beer is cheap too. What is not to like?
