We got a bunch of different starters, my boyfriend raved about the beef tartar but that's not for me personally. We got the ribeye to share and it was delicious. We visited A terra & PDL from Austin, Texas along with our friends from Chicago- both food cities. We had an unbelievable meal, we let the server help us decide and we thoroughly enjoyed it. We had the beef tartare, salad, table bread, fish trio with rice, steak and a few sides. Everything was outstanding. Service was great. We are staying at this hotel and let me just say.. It is AMAZING- but thats for another review. This is specifically speaking on the desserts they offer during dinner time. Not only is it beautiful in the restaurant area, but there are so many friendly and helpful servers at your every turn for all your needs. Peaceful music playing, comfy couch sitting (or table and chair options) and the desserts were a 10/10. Reading through the menu, my family was hesitant on the Chocolate Cigar specifically, but they were all a 10. Super flavorful, fresh as ever, came out at a reasonably quick after ordering and as colorful as the Island. Unfortunately our vacation is coming to an end, but this is wonderful, you should definitely check it out, for regular dinner options too, or even to reside at for your stay! We came here for dinner and were very happy. The service was very attentive, more like American style which we appreciated. All the food we had was really good. They even prepared the finishing touches of the stew at the table and served us both. Despite being a fancy restaurant we were full without too high of a bill. Came here after a day of exploring Sao Miguel on a drive. It was a very leisurely dinner, and the service was great (though they don't refill water as much as we do in America). The Azorean butter and bread was fantastic. The chef sent a turnip amuse bouche and a tuna with orange which were both fantastic. We did the wine pairing and I liked most of the wine, but figured out I'm not a huge fan of wines from Pico. We debated between the 5 and 7 course meal and ended up with the 5. It was so filling, I'm not sure where we would have fit two additional courses. The first course was tuna and caviar which was very light. Next was a crab cannelloni, which was very unique flavored but definitely tasty. The cheese soup was amazing, Azorean cheese is so good. The pig cheek with pineapple was also delicious. For dessert we had the passion fruit ice cream and soufflé which was so good but super filling. We had ordered ahead of time the 5 cheese platter which was so good, even though we were stuffed. They ended with a surprise dessert of white chocolate and dark chocolate truffles. Highly recommend, the prices are so cheap compared to American prices for this meal and pairing, and it's a beautiful view. read more

The majority of ingredients are locally sourced from the Azores- from the milk to make yogurt, eggs for the omelette bar, wheat for freshly baked pastries, or fruit for refreshing smoothies . By far the best breakfast buffet I've had at a hotel. Food was fresh and local. Every day we woke up looking forward to breakfast. We would start at the omelette station and continue with the fresh pastries including pasteis de nata. The bacon and pumpkin was delicious. Fruit also good. I would always get a glass of freshly squeezed orange juice and some hot tea. Service was great and everyone was friendly and attentive. If you stay at the hotel breakfast is included which is a great deal. I am definitely coming back here if I ever visit Ponta Delgada again. read more

Really good restaurant in the Azor hotel serving dry aged steaks and more. We were staying at the hotel so opted to do the "make your own" volcano stew (arranged with the concierge). This was a really fun activity. We met around 11 and under supervision by a member of the culinary team, placed all the food in a heavy cast iron pot. It was then bundled up and next with Antonio, the concierge, drove it to a steaming hole (called a fumerole) and carful year lowered it in. We came back 7 hours later and with a long book fished it out and brought it back and the restaurant unloaded it and served it to us with some amazing rice made from the broth. Of course service is top notch and they've got a great wine list. read more

It was a great surprise to find such a gem of a restaurant. The decor was sophisticated with a fantastic view of the ocean. The staff was super friendly and accommodating fitting 6 of us in on a busy night. The food was wonderful. We ordered the steak with potatoes, and a green bean stew, the fish special, a cheese plate, and the kids pastas. Everyone enjoyed their food and we all left with full stomachs. read more

Dinner here was very good! The only complaint is the waiter who takes your food order is also the bartender. Which in our case did not know how to make a grey goose martini up. My martini was rose' looking because he added red vermouth. My recommendation, stick with beer or wine. Breakfast is also served here in the morning 7:30am - 11:30am. My boyfriend and I would occasionally share an entree here between lunch and dinner since our dinner reservation was always so late in the night (8p or 9p). And by occasionally I mean twice. Once we ordered a platter of 20 piece of sushi/sashimi. While the portion was a a lot smaller than it would be in the US, the fish was very fresh and presentation was A+. Seriously, our plate was like a piece of art. Even the wasabi was molded and scored into a leaf! Second time around, we ordered the bacon and egg hamburger. The egg was a little over cooked but everything else was perfect. If the burger wasn't 16 euros, I might've gotten another one. You can always count on getting good food here but it is much more expensive than other places in the area. My group stayed in this hotel too so we would come here every morning for breakfast. For a breakfast that was included as part of our stay, it was more than decent. They served the same thing every morning but there were a lot of options available. The hot bar consisted of scrambled eggs, mushrooms, bacon, and one other veggie as well as an omelette station. The cold bar had bread, cheeses, meats, fruits, and yogurt. Oh and how could I forget the tarts! Apparently, the Azores Islands are very well known for their tarts so this is a must try even if you don't like them. read more

I dined at A Terra for dinner when I visited the Azores in June of 2018. A Terra is located in the Azor Hotel (where I stayed, and highly recommend). Located right next to the harbor, the restaurant has great views both during the day and at night. As a starter, we both had the butternut squash soup. The presentation was very nice, as they brought a bowl to the table with slices of butternut squash with some other things, and poured the soup in to the bowl right at your table. For our main course, we shared the t-bone for two, which was an amazing rosemary steak served on a long wooden plank with frites and roasted vegetables. Both of these dishes were plenty of food for two. Since the restaurant is in the hotel, the prices seemed a bit higher than some other local restaurants, cut certainly weren't unreasonable. The service was great, and the ambiance with the view was nice. Consider making a reservation prior to your visit, or upon arrival for a special occasion or just because you're on vacay! read more

The restaurant is located on the 1st floor of the Azor Hotel. Just a note, the Lobby is floor 0 and the parking garage is floor -1. The restaurant is nice and big. Something you would see in a fine dining establishment. We were here for breakfast and dinner. The food was good on both occasions. Although, 3 straight days of breakfast buffet will make you tire of the food. The dinner service took a bit longer than I would have liked, but the food quality was good. My sirloin steak (though small 6oz.) was very juicy and tender and was marinated well. I wished I had gone with the dry aged ribeye. I was talked out of it by the server as she said it was big enough for 2. Since I was flying out the next day, I didn't want to eat such a big meal. I guess she doesn't know that Americans can consume alot of meat in one sitting. Anyways, my overall experience was good and the presentation was on point also. I would recommend eating here for their breakfast and finding a dinner spot outside as it will save you money and you get to walk off the food and take a nice stroll through the streets. read more

My wife and I chose Ponta Delgada for our Honeymoon and return every year on our anniversary. We've never had a bad experience; never an unfriendly person, a bad meal or anything short of perfection. Then we went to A Terra (Short for terrible). We made a reservation through our hotel, Marine Atlantico (which I would highly recommend), and showed up 5 minutes early....ten minutes later, a gruff woman asked if we would like a table. I said we had a reservation and she appeared confused. I mentioned our name and that we had made a reservation through our hotel...more confusion. Reservation, she asks? Yes, reservation. Ah, a light goes on. We didn't need one, btw, as the place was a ghost town. Next up, the waitress, who was much more presentable (and didn't appear to be coming off a coke-bender) asked if we'd like something to drink. I told her we were both excited to try the only aged beef on the island and would love a suggestion on wine pairing. She said, and it's an unforgettable quote, "All our wines pair well with our meats." I was joking when I asked, "whites too?" "Yes." I lost a little confidence but, like a blockhead, decided to go ahead with question two, "which cut is most reflective of your restaurant?" I'll spare the details except that we chose the Prime Rib Steak and spent the following day playing rock paper scissor to see who got the hotel bathroom and who, if they could make it, got the pool bathroom. I've never thrown up so hard, so immediately following eating, in my life. I went back the following afternoon, fairly skeptical that I could walk the 1/2 mile back without vomiting what could only be stomach liner by that point, to make the "chef" aware of this before others suffered a same fate and I get...punch line...Americans don't have stomachs for our meats. There you have it folks, if you're American, the chefs advice is; stay home or bring your peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. I wasn't even looking for a refund. Just some general awareness of the issue to those serving this dreck and perhaps some sympathy for my bad experience. Simple advice -- DON'T DO IT! read more

After a long day hiking in Furnas, my wife and I wanted to find a new spot to eat dinner that was close to our hotel. A Terra fit that bill--at least we thought it did. The restaurant didn't open til 7:30, but we were willing to wait. We wish we wouldn't have bothered. Despite the fact that it was the highest priced meal we have eaten this week, it was definitely the worst one we have had so far . The beef was tough and the swordfish was dry....disappointing to say the least. On top of that, the meal took 1 1/2 hours--without an appetizer or dessert. read more
