This restaurant had the best breaded chicken I have had on this island. They serve traditional Portuguese and Mediterranean dishes. For dessert I had two scoops of chocolate ice cream and a double espresso. The service was slow as it took over an hour for my family and I to get our food after placing our order. I think this will go down as my most memorable meal during this Portugal trip. Loved everything that I ate, in a lovely bustling dining room full of life and Portuguese food. Started off with some calamari and Sao Jorge cheese with bread. The calamari wasn't the best I've ever had, but it was tender and fresh and very light. The Sao Jorge cheese may be the best I have had. By the time it gets to the United States it's certainly a HARD cheese, but this was soft and almost spreadable on the bread. Delicious. The menu here is massive. They had about 6 different Portuguese steak options, but I went for the classic with egg and peppers. I do with there were more red peppers on my steak, but I appreciate the hefty amounts of garlic and sauce. The steak itself was cooked perfectly to medium rare and tender. I'm not a big steak girlie but I ate the whole thing in no time. The bottle of wine certainly helped it go down easily. Finished the meal with a chocolate crepe, which I can still taste as I type this. Loved this place and will come back every time I am in Ponta Delgada. read more

Friendly service, nice ambience, but overall food was just ok. The local sirloin steak and tile octopus were very average, but the calamari was excellent. Given the price is on the higher end for this island's benchmark (still cheap comparing to NYC though), I think I can only justify to give this place a 3-star rating. read more

For our last dinner in the Azores, the hotel recommended this charming and bustling spot near the main church in ponta Delgada. It is important to have a reservation as we saw them turn many would-be diners away. The tables in the small restaurant were continually full during our visit on a Wednesday night. The hardest thing about the restaurant is that the menu is HUGE with so many choices. It takes a lot of effort to get through it all. By now in our trip you'd think we would have learned to adjust for the massive portions but made the mistake yet again. We shared a tasty shrimp appetizer with puff pastry and ordered some garlic bread to start. The bread was like 8 huge slices alone. Then we each ordered a fettuccine-the bacon (pretty good) and the shrimp (just ok-strong tarragon flavor). We didn't even finish one of the large bowls of pasta. Since there's always room for dessert we had to get the chocolate profiteroles which were quite tasty. With wine it was a very reasonable meal at around €50. The manager of the restaurant is also quite the photographer so the walls are adorned with these amazing shots from around the Azo. read more

We were visiting in the Azores, and went to this place, and loved it! The meal was a little bit more on the pricey said compared to other similar restaurants, but the food was amazing; so amazing we decided to book another reservation for a few days later. My wife and daughter ended up getting food poisoning. My daughter got the fillet (steak) and ate most of it, and my wife ended up stealing a few bites at the end. A few hours later, they were in bad shape. My son and I, who did not eat that dish were fine. I was super disappointed, and let our hotel know who recommended the place - they were also surprised. Wonderful authentic restaurant in Ponta Delgada. Our tour company had prearranged dinner for us at this local restaurant while we visited Punta Delgada and we were extremely pleased. Even after we mixed up the time of our reservation (we were an hour late) the staff accommodated us, needless to say the service was excellent. The food was also great. I started with a shrimp tart and my husbanded opted for the fried calamari and we enjoyed the pork loin in mustard sauce and the local Azorean steak as main dishes. The house red wine was delicious and the chocolate mousse was devine. I recommend making a reservation as the restaurant fills up. We'll certainly be back on our next visit to the island. read more

I ordered the seasonal fish (medium done tuna) on top of mashed potatoes and spinach. my boyfriend ordered the octopus sautéed with onions and on top of sweet potatoes. Our meals were delicious, like it was so damn good. I recommend anyone making a trip to Sao Miguel, Azores to reserve yourself a spot in this restaurant. My wife and I stopped in for lunch before (sadly) flying back to the states. The service was great with both servers being professional but friendly and laid back. We were asking about different local liquors and they ended up bringing us two on the house. I had the tuna which was served over a mashed sweet potato/yam and they seared it rare to perfection! We went here for dinner based on the reviews I had read. What a mistake. The smell of cigarette smoke should have been the first tip off. I initially assumed it had wafted in from the outside. But, coming back from the bathroom, I noticed one of the staff was smoking in the kitchen. Disgusting. Unfortunately it was too late to leave. The food can only be described as mediocre. The catch of the day was completely overcooked. We mentioned this to the waitress as we were paying (she never bothered to come by at anytime during the meal to ask how everything was) and she just shrugged it off with a I-really-don't-care "Sorry." We considered talking to the manager but really, is someone that allows smoking in the kitchen going to care about the quality of the food his staff are preparing? There are so many places to go to in Ponta Delgada that are far cheaper and better in all respects. read more

Our first dinner at Ponta Delgada. Like most restaurants in town, the chances that you'll get in without a reservation are slim. We had our dinner around 9. We got the cream seafood soup, the puff pastry special appetizer, cod fish entree (recommended by our server, but we were not sure it corresponded to anything they have on the menu) and shrimp fettuccine. The soups were ok, a lot of fish flavor, the puff pastry appetizer wasn't to our liking, but an interesting experience. My husband had a nice size piece of fish, but he thought the batter was too thick and didn't take away from the flavor. My pasta was good, the sauce very creamy, but the shrimps were overcooked and tough as you bit into them. Overall it was an ok meal. read more

The food was terrific and there were SOOO many choices! It was very refreshing. I had one of the tournedo dishes (a filet mignon steak with a nice cheese and cream sauce, plus mashed potatoes). My boyfriend had the fish of the day in a very interesting and somewhat spicy veggie and potato sauce in a baking dish of some kind. He said it was delicious. We loved this place. We just happened to stumble upon it with no reservations and although they were very booked, they managed to squeeze us in -as we were early in the evening. Located next to the Hotel Sao Pedro near the church with the same name, the Restaurant Sao Pedro offers an overwhelming variety of traditional dishes, probably specialising in beef prepared in all sorts of way. In addition, there is a wide variety of fish. The atmosphere is very pleasant and the staff is helpful and very friendly. Portions are large, with excellent value for money. As everywhere on the Azores where meals are prepared freshly and not simply defrosted, the service can be a little bit slow, but with the staff offering a beer while waiting, we did not feel that the time was too long. read more

Best meal I had in Portugal. The staff is so generous (they offered cigars and a DVD of the island complimentary). Meals are traditional Portugese, pletniful and delicious. Lots of meat and fish on the menu. They have free wifi which is a god send to a traveler. And well, like the rest of the Azores, you can stay as long as you like - no rush. read more
