This was a random stop for a light dinner after a walk nearby. This diner certainly had a…read moreFrench-Canadian feel to it with smoked meat sandwiches etc. I ordered a small spaghetti (love that they had 2 sizes) and a small Caesar salad. The salad had a little more going on than a typical US diner Caesar salad. Instead of a flaked Parmesan style cheese they used a softer grated cheese plus there were good sized pieces of bacon or chewy pork in the salad. It was very interesting and flavorful. The spaghetti was good, served quickly and nice and hot. The sauce seemed like a bolognese style minus any dairy. I say that because it had finely minced carrots and celery (I think) in it which I've seen in recipes for bolognese but don't typically see in home or commercially prepared spaghetti sauces in the US. I would have appreciated some grated cheese on top of it or available to add myself but none was offered and I opted not to ask. Overall I think this is a good example of a mid-level cafe type eatery. Not fine dining but not a greasy spoon either.

I would definitely recommend the club sandwiches and salads. To be honest there isn't much in town but at least this place serves good diner-style plates that will leave you satisfied.

This is a family-style chain restaurant that serves breakfast and lunch, but no dinners. We went…read morefor breakfast and the hostess immediately seated us. Our server, Kim, came over and greeted us in French and we ordered coffee and water in French. When she heard our accent, she told us English is her first language. That's rare in Quebec. She offered us English menus but we declined and used the French ones. Looking around, we could see that this is definitely a family restaurant. Most of the diners were either families with young children or older couples. There were other tables that looked like a group of friends met for breakfast. Everyone there looked like a local. I believe we were the only Americans. I ordered a plate called The Magog and my wife ordered the Québécois omelette. Both arrived about ten minutes later and looked very nice. The flavor was good and we were hungry, so there was not much left at the end of breakfast. Overall, we thought the food was good. We have had slightly better and we have had much worse in other Quebec restaurants. We thought the service was excellent. Kim was very personable and helpful. I think she really enjoyed conversing in English for a change. We will definitely put this restaurant on our list for future meals.

This place pretends it's vintage charm on rails, but don't be fooled--it's more nostalgia at a…read morepremium. Ambience: It's a genuine 1950s Worcester Lunch Car--complete with Formica counters, vinyl booths, and tile floors that feel like they haven't changed since before your grandparents were born. Charming if you like that "museum exhibit" vibe--but cozy it isn't. Seating is tight, and the wait can feel longer than vintage itself. Food: Yes, it's scratch-made breakfast and lunch--maple syrup is local, English muffins made in-house, eggs fresh from Vermont farms. Great effort. But then you find out the famous hot turkey sandwich and VT burger that earned Roadfood praise under the old owner are no longer on the menu. The new proprietors swapped nostalgia for a rewritten menu--and higher prices. Some folks rave about the blueberry jam and standout flavors, but others griped that biscuits and gravy were "downright gross." Contrasting reviews and extra-charge condiment notes further muddle expectations. Service: Staff tend to move with diner efficiency--fast, polite, and no fuss. That said, reviews note some inconsistency: stellar one day, meh the next. They're friendly, but don't expect a guided gastronomic tour--just order, eat, move on. Value: With plates clocking in near $19 for diner fare like chicken-fried steak and breakfast burrito bowls, this isn't exactly your classic greasy spoon find. Everything tastes well-executed, but you're paying for that curated "local ingredients" label--not bargain basement. Bottom line: If you're nostalgic for a parlor that looks like a train car and serve-your-mother's-recipe breakfast served up with giddy pride, Parkway Diner might still charm. Just be ready to pay for ingredient provenance and ditch your hopes for old favorites like the hot turkey sandwich or VT burger. Solid for breakfast or lunch, but don't expect miracles--even if they serve bottomless coffee.
