Fun throw back old school diner. Came on a Monday morning, every table packed, had to wait 10 min but finally got seated. Waitress was lovely and attentive but it took over an hour to get our food. She came around refilling our coffee regularly so we were happy. So im gonna get straight to the point, the pancake and waffles are HUGE and delicious! The bacon delicious, the eggs, normal but good, the home fries are mid but can still enjoy with some ketchup. The only thing I don't recommend is the homemade donut, just trust me lol other than that the service was amazing. Our waitress was so nice and got us our food quick and I had a big family! It's a nice setting very laid back and family friendly . I love the inside even though it is a small place most diners are so if your a big party call ahead. The diner is really neat! I got a breakfast burrito with eggs, veggies, and cheddar cheese. It was good, and the veggies were fresh, though it could have used a little more seasoning. I was born and raised in Vermont! I've been gone for many years but just returned (for a wedding), you won't find another diner more authentic than this place! Despite every seat being full in this small diner (and to-go orders pouring in) a small team of three girls handled everything perfectly. The food was amazing, but the experience was better. We found ourselves at Martha's on Memorial Day morning in search of breakfast. Being the only place open for miles, they were absolutely swamped, but the three ladies working there certainly had a lot of hustle! Now, I will say that, because it was so busy, it did take us near an hour to get our food, but it was well worth the wait in my opinion. We watched the one cook make each meal fresh and by hand and everything that came out was hot - not rushed and left to sit like some places. We left full and ready for the morning despite the wait. This is a wonderful 1950s-style diner that is absolutely "the real thing." The food is typical of what you would expect from a diner in Massachusetts in the 1950s and 60s. Hunters stop here early in the morning before going out into the woods. We only go for breakfast but we hear lunch is good too. The food is typical diner fare: eggs prepared your way, omelets, French toast, pancakes, bacon, sausage, coffee, etc. This is a local hang-out that sees an occasional out-of-state tourist or two. My husband and I recently moved to NEK to renovate a bed and breakfast. Prior to my husband joining me, I spent the summer on my own working on our new property. Thankfully, I discovered Martha's or I may have starved to death! Both the breakfast and lunch menu is fabulous, a bit of everything. The specials board is always full - if you're looking for a warm, clean and inviting place to eat with friendly, welcoming staff, Martha's is the place to try. Coffee is great and refilled generously, and there's always homemade pie to end your meal. (Or have for breakfast!) As a "new local", I eat there several times per week. Classic Old Diner. Service was fast and friendly. The old Formica counter tops are clean but so worn that you can't help but think of who's elbows have rested there and how many refills of coffee have been slid across that counter... My omelette was very good, and large; a true 3egg omelette. I was leaning toward 5*s, but my only hesitation is they use sliced deli ham in their omelettes. (It was still delicious, but I've been spoiled by my regular breakfast spot...) The home fries were also excellent and not over salted like a lot of diners. My Mom still hasn't stopped talking about her breakfast sandwich on a homemade biscuit. You get to watch the grillman work up front if you sit at the counter. I highly recommend the extra dollar for homemade toast!! So worth it! The woman who served me was very pleasant, friendly, fast, and has breathtaking blue eyes. While exploring northern Vermont in an air conditioned car that let us escape the heat of our place in nearby Concord, we stumbled upon this little gem. I was with my two oldest kids and we weren't all that hungry, but I can't just drive by this type of diner without stopping in for a bite. The waitstaff was very friendly and full of character, and the menu immediately caught my eye. I couldn't decide between the biscuits and gravy (yep, breakfast all day!) or the poutine. As the latter is even rarer I went with that but I talked my boy into getting the B&G so I could try that too. My daughter ordered a BLT and we watched as the cook put it all together not 4 feet away. I always enjoy when the grill is on the customer side of the diner. So, how was the food? Better than expected. This was no BLT on wonderbread, or five-day old stale biscuits with gravy. This was a thick toothsome sandwich and fresh biscuits with a rich sausage gravy that was not at all lite on seasoning. The fries were large, thick cut and well fried, making the perfect bed for my cheese curd and brown gravy. Best Poutine I've had in a while. I truly wish we lived closer, but I have no doubt that we'll be back soon. Oh, good coffee too. I had three cups despite the hot day. read more

The most interesting thing to me about Martha's is its history. This is a classic stainless steel diner made by Jerry O'Mahoney Co, in the heydey of the diner era. It is said there are very few of these left, and this is the one found the farthest north of its NJ factory. The staff believes this one came to them from Boston, and Martha, now deceased, made it a household name in Coventry/Irasburg. The day I was there for lunch the food was plain but adequate, the service prompt. It appears to have a local following, and I would recommend it for families. The counter is so worn from the decades of use, that its original design is nearly gone. Charming to think of how many cups of coffee that counter has seen. I hope this diner will be preserved and serve many others. read more

Leaving Jay Peak, food options are few and far between. This place was a good find because it was cheap, quick, and had decent food. The food was nothing to write how about, slightly below average diner fare -- but the place was clean and the staff was friendly. This may become a regular road stop when leaving the mountain hungry (and don't want to pay base lodge prices). read more

I drive by here a couple times a month on the way to a work site. I stop here because it is the last chance for food and a bathroom, not because the food is outstanding. It is, however, inexpensive, and breakfast portions are very generous. That's what the fourth star is for. My one complaint is that I usually sit at the counter where I can see my breakfast sit and sit and sit after being cooked. Is this place unionized? It seems like only one employee is authorized to deliver food, and if she gets tied up elsewhere your meal will arrive cold. When I waited tables at a Friendly's many years ago we helped each other out if someone got tied up. Here I watch other staff wander by my meal a dozen times without even seeing it. Update: May 2015 For the record, two eggs, a huge slab of ham, and toast cost me $4.50. Coffee is extra. If you want to pay more you can add homemade toast or potatoes. I live here in the Northeast Kingdom of VT and my son and I have started to "collect" area diners. Marth'a Diner is the quintessential New England diner. The physcial diner itself is exquisite, in near perfect shape from the original stainless steel structure and inside decor. It is obviously much frequented by locals, as well as those of us who drove an hour to experience it. The food was great, and the prices from sometime in the seventies.
