The website for this company lists their service areas (by city name). My city appears on the list on their website. After exchanging emails with them, and providing photos of the work that I need done, they finally returned my telephone call. Their response was that they can't handle any repairs for me 'this year' because of my location. In response, I asked if I could get on their list for next year. Their reply - no, not even next year - because of my location. They then laughingly suggested that I could try calling them next year to ask. This is really not the way to treat a potential customer. The only reason I am giving 2 stars instead of one is because they did come back when we complained. Communication was poor. They came on a different day than we thought they would. They did not fix anything extra like nails that were sticking out which they said would be fixed when they flat sanded which they didn't do either. Our deck looked striped when they were done. The inch spaces between the boards were not painted just the top. So it looked really striped. Places were missed and it looked like they used the least amount of paint possible. It did look better when they came out a second time but my husband painted between the boards himself on the weekend. read more

This is one of the best local businesses I have ever dealt with. They provide good service and handle any problems promptly. Richard and his crews have been servicing my deck since it was built. He even pointed out and repaired shoddy work from a poor builder. They added the lattice around the deck and have cleaned and stained the deck several times. A quality job every time. Once, and only once, I had a problem. I called and Richard was there himself the next day and corrected the situation, working a couple hours in +90 degree heat. I highly recommend Restore a Deck and will use them for all my deck needs. read more

I've been using Restore A Deck for the last several years and they've done a great job. Last year, it rained really hard after my stain was applied and it definitely degraded the application. I called let them know what happened. They came to my house, checked it out and agreed that I was right. Richard said that he would come out and re-do the deck at a greatly reduced price which I thought was more than fair. They came and did it again. Right afterwards, it rained again! I called to let them know that it still didn't look right. Richard came to my house on a SUNDAY to check it out, agreed that it still wasn't right and they came again to reapply the stain. This is the kind of customer service you rarely see these days and if I could give these folks six stars, I would. I'm a customer for life - thank you Richard and the Restore A Deck team! read more

I called them 4 weeks ago and they showed up without a call. The crew leader they call "smo" looked like he just broke parole. They tried staining the deck when there were dark cloud all over and told me it would be fine. Well it started raining and they kept staining. This is going to be a mess. read more

Did a nice job with leveling our deck at a reasonable price. They came in the cheapest in terms of bids for leveling. The minus one star is for the scheduling- it was a little random and they had a hard time getting me a set time or date and weren't as responsive and specific as they could be with emails initially. Otherwise, quality work at a good price. read more

I am giving one star because I cannot leave zero. I met with one of the workers to discuss the design of adding stairs to an existing deck. I was told I would receive an email quote within a week. 3 weeks later I call and I was told the contractor just recently submitted the quote. Well the quote was we will not be able to do your job...what? I asked why...no explanation. Not sure if the job was too small or they are not competent to do the job. read more

I had high expectations. Our meeting to discuss a new Trex Deck Construction went well. After that not so much. When I didn't receive an estimate I called back after a month....TWICE. The last call a women put me on hold to look for any info on my estimate. She asked if she could call back in just minutes. You guessed it, no call back. We have used Richard and his company a few times over the years to refinish our deck and have always been completely satisfied. They do a great job at an fair price. He has always offered advice about what to look for after these past few difficult winters and how to prep for any potential difficulties we may encounter as a result, but never ever with any pressure. They even went so far as to offer to stain a few other things for free while they were doing the deck (a garden pallet and a wooden bird house). Used Restore A Deck for the first time this year. I am 100% satisfied. They power washed my deck, then came out a couple of weeks later to stain it. The guys were professional and cleaned up after themselves. We have a part Trex, part Cedar deck that takes some extra TLC in preparing it for staining plus the clean up can take some extra time also. They did miss some spots (with Trex/Cedar deck this can happen) but Richard came out to "touch up" the spots they missed. He spent a long time here and I felt that he treated my deck like he was his. I highly recommend Restore A Deck for ANYONE out there. A+++++ in every area from to Richard to Joan to the guys who stained and power washed my deck. I'm writing because of an extremely poor experience we had with Restore-A-Deck. Although I've used Restore-A-Deck in previous years, and their service/work was good (not great, but good), this year's experience was terrible and alarming! First, the company representatives who contacted us to schedule the work were difficult to deal with (no flexibility at all). We went through numerous phone calls/dates before agreeing on when work could begin. Second, the power washing crew left residue all over the side of the house and on the windows (this happened in previous years, although we did not fuss about it until it happened again this year). They eventually cleaned the house and windows ... but not without an argument. Third, the staining crew arrived early one morning without notice, and asked if they could remove our outdoor furniture & potted plants/flowers so they could stain the deck (Our expectation was that they would notify us of the date they planned to stain so we could prepare .... it had been over two weeks since the power washing so we were using our deck until notified). We reluctantly allowed the workers to remove our furniture and plants. When we arrived home that evening, the potted plants had been left on plant stands sitting on uneven mulch in shrub beds around the deck. Many had fallen over resulting in broken plant branches and potting soil being spilled all over. It took us at least two hours to clean up their mess. Additionally, they trampled and broke shrubs around the deck, and there was stain spilled on numerous plants (despite their assurances that they would cover everything). I called Restore-A-Deck and Richard Pauley came to inspect. Rather than simply admitting to the carelessness and the plant damage, he quickly tried to rationalize the damage by stating that it's impossible not to have some stain spilled on vegetation or a few broken plants. He also stated that many of the damaged plants would "come back", and therefore it wasn't a big deal. He then referred me to language in his contract which states Restore-A-Deck is not responsible for any damage to vegetation around the deck. He went on to rationalize the carelessness and lack of communication from his scheduling people stating that working around weather was the main cause. We told him the carelessness of his crew wasn't acceptable and that we spent a few hours cleaning up their mess. We also expected a few pants to be replaced. After a lot of excuses and long conversation, he verbally agreed to a nominal reduction in his price in order to compensate for the damage, but wanted a receipt to validate our purchase. We subsequently purchased two new plants, deducted the cost from his invoice, and sent a check w/a copy of the receipt. He then showed up on our property one morning (unannounced) to view the damaged plants (weeks after the job). He phoned from our backyard and stated he would not cover the cost of the new plants... because the damaged plants were fine, and went on to reiterate the clause on the back of his contract that Restore-A-Deck was not responsible for any vegetation damage (this was after he had previously agreed to a nominal reimbursement of damage his employee's caused .... we had already spent money to replace/repair plants). I can't imagine sacrificing repeat business at revenue far exceeding what he agreed to have us spend (for damage his workers caused). He just lost thousands of dollars in future revenue over $48!! The bottom line: A. Beware of the damage clause in Restore-A-Deck's contract re shrub/plant damage B. Beware of any verbal commitments by Richard Pauley --- he will rationalize and twist a situation until he wears you out......and most importantly, his word is worthless! read more

I am writing this because of our disappointing and poor experience we had with the company. The first time we had our deck refinished was a very good experience and it turned out great. This time after our deck was cleaned they stained it the WRONG COLOR. This was just the beginning of our headache. Trying to get it corrected felt like "pulling teeth". Richard whom I spoke with wanted to leave the wrong color on the deck to start. This request was not an option, it was completely not what we wanted in color. After a struggle it was finally agreed that the wrong color be stripped. Not sure what Richard thought what other option we had, but we were not going to stare at the wrong color every day for years. The color simply had to be corrected and stripping it off was the only way we could get something close to what we wanted. After the color was then stripped came the next struggle. The deck had several water marking areas and patches that were not stripped well. Richard seemed to think that this was acceptable and said how great he thought the color came out. Again Richard did not want to fix the problem that was THEIR fault. We felt like the job was being done lazy and sub-standard. After another struggle it was finally agreed that the marking was from a possible incomplete washing/stripping and the deck had to be sanded to remove the markings. The deck was then stained the correct color. The color we actually like, but the inconsistent application of it we do not. I don't think we got the full 2 coats and there is one dark "puddle" area (2-3 ft) where I think the bucket of stain was. Overall the deck turned out substandard and looks like it was done by idiots. I am not happy at all with the way the situation was handle and will not be using this company again in the future. Richard was extremely rude and tried to even blame us for the error. In a saved voicemail from 5/30/14 he even states "I told you". Yet still we were charged the full amount for a finished product that is poor. I did not even bother to contact the company again after the invoice was received because honestly I can't deal with the stress of the situation anymore. Every conversation with Richard felt like an argument. It is an extremely poor way to treat anyone paying for a service to be done. read more
