I first heard of Urban Acupuncture and about acupuncture back in 2016. I was suffering from what I…read morethought was sciatica and didn't get relief from PT, massage, exercise or tens unit stimulation. Given the relatively low price (compared to massage or private acupuncture - I had to give it a try. The treatment itself (applying the pins) doesn't hurt at all. And what I absolutely love is the relaxing environment - plush, huge leather recliners; dim lighting; soft music; and a feeling of safety and wellness. I worked right by here and would come over lunch. It was heaven. Unfortunately, it didn't help and the office moved downtown. I don't really live by this or the other location so I stopped treatment. Skip forward - after an MRI gave me the real diagnosis (hamstring) - and too much yoga (if there is such a thing) has kicked my pain into high gear, I decided to start up treatment again - if nothing else as part of my self care. Well-being treatment. The technician I see at this location is the same. But now I also visit the other location - depending on what is available on the schedule. Both are great places with equally soothing treatment rooms and skilled staff. I'm actually headed there now for my weekly treatment. And goodness - while progress is not fast or great, it is helping. And I love the 30-40 minutes of heaven I get. I highly recommend you try it!!

I called up a good friend in Astoria, NY who is in school for chinese medicine in the city. After scanning a few places she suggested Xuguang Gao based on his credentials and technique. That said I felt pretty confident going since it was my first time. My confidence level sky rocketed when i got the most comprehensive investigation into my medical history ever. Gao was very patient and really gave a thorough lecture on the process and philosophy behind acupuncture. The office was clean and the staff was very friendly. I left feeling relaxed and scheduled more sessions. My only problem is it is pretty pricy for me ($80 first session, $60 there after). They suggest going at least twice a week initially for the procedure to truly be effective. This is standard. They take OSU prime care so that might help some locals out. I found it to be so effective I'd sell my soul for some more.

Both Dr Hensel and Craner are extremely knowledgeable and supportive, and I really appreciate how they have made me aware of many of the options available to me at their practice, but have yet to pressure me into anything I might not be comfortable with trying. Already, I have discovered many new therapies within the scope of Chiropractic care that I did not even know existed (for instance- Dr Craner successfully relieved some pain/ pressure in my abdomen that I didn't even realize was being caused by a hernia, and don't even get me started on the pressure points inside the mouth- mind blown by how affective her adjustments have been!! It was akin to taking a muscle relaxer without the side effects , immediately after the adjustment.).
