For Lasik, they need to cut a large flap into your eye... then the laser does the cutting/removal, etc. In SMILE, a tiny slit is cut (no flap), then the doctor does the cutting/removal instead of the laser. My recovery time was much longer; it took a couple months until my vision was perfect, whereas they recovered almost instantly... However, I almost never need eye drops... and they needed them for several months. The results are similar otherwise. How's my vision? 20/15... I could read a few of the 20/10 characters... but it took a bit of squinting. It feels weird to have functioning eyes. The process: You have some meetings, they check your eyes, and walk you through the procedures. If you're the nervous type, this may help you. This was maybe tmi for someone like me, since I prefer to trust the experts/doctors... that is, after doing hours of research and settling on SMILE and Dr. Malihi. However, tmi is better that no info, and many will find comfort in the "behind-the-scenes" tour. The actual surgery takes about 20 minutes... and it's uncomfortable, I mean it's your damn eyes... So, I just tried to relax and think about how this will all be over in no time- and it was. They do offer a chill pill of some sort, but I didn't take it... kinda wanted to feel it all... and it wasn't bad. You do feel a bit of scraping... because there is scraping. Again, worth it. They talk you through the whole thing... tell you when your vision is about to go cloudy, etc. There were people updating me on everything that was happening and there wasn't any mystery or reason to worry. The next day, my vision was kinda there... but after a few hours it got blurry... My partner had almost perfect vision after a day... but I was about 20/40 at best. I ended up working on tons of music, since staring a computer screen was doable but difficult. I traveled a couple weeks later, and my vision was still really blurry... SMILE does take longer to heal... but it's really worth it. After a couple of months, my vision is so good it's ridiculous. Just get it.

I was a candidate for SMILE, LASIK, and PRK and was walked through the differences between the 3 and pros vs. cons. Ultimately, I decided to go with SMILE to correct my myopia (-4.50 and -5.0 with slight astigmatism) because I already had dry eyes and was concerned LASIK would make it worse. I was able to schedule the surgery for the following week, and the surgery itself was pretty quick and painless! My vision was blurry immediately after, but was 20/15 and 20/20 by the following day. Fantastic! This was, by far, the best medical experience I've ever had. I just wish I would've had Dr. Mahili do it sooner!

This office is combination Ophthalmology and Optometry with multiple physicians. Its like a factory, LOTS of patients milling about and harried office workers trying to keep things sorted. Long lines. Parking at St Vincent is like a busy shopping mall at Christmas. Billing was handled correctly. Hard for me to recommend this place.

They told him there Is no appointment in the books; he also had an Email reminder! They made him an appointment with another optometrist 3 months out Without telling him they had switched his doctor. He didn't notice the name change till a month after. I think these cooperations rely on people not having a choice.

Customer service is very poor. 1) I went with my 82-year old dad to get an eye exam. There was…read morepressure to pay for add on's as the manager showed us a laminated sheet with a menu of items. When we asked for clarification, she talked down to us as if we should know what these were. My dad had been wearing progressive lenses for years and never got any add ons. 2) Glasses took more than the stated two weeks, my dad had to call them to find out the status each time. 3) The prescription for his glasses was wrong. They told him to give it two weeks to adjust to the new prescription. He wears his glasses to drive and read. Are you kidding me! That's so dangerous. After he told me that, I called to ask them to ask them to retest him at no charge asap. They discovered the prescription error and told him it would be another two weeks. When I called them to ask that they contact the lab and expedite this because now he would be 4+ weeks without the correct lenses, I was hung up on. When my dad finally picked up his glasses, they told him I "traumatized" the salesclerk by apparently asking her what they could do to get his lenses back to him more quickly. We were so shocked by this whole experience. I absolutely do not recommend them.
