Yet again, the amazingness that is the Retro Roadshow struck last night, ringing in the new year! I had the pleasure of attending yet another Retro dance party at the Dovercourt House and am happy to say that not only did I have a great time celebrating the beginning of a new year, but RRS (for short) put on another fantastic party!
Their New Years special goes all out! Not only were dancers rocking out to retro vids all night, but there were mounds of snacks and goodies to gnosh all night, as well as champagne at midnight, served by the lovely bartenders.
A couple of things I neglected to mention in my last review: RSS has a facebook account that you can join that updates you on the latest info and party news. They usually give a code word that'll get you in for a discounted price (sort of nostalgic to old school rave scavenger hunts!)
Also: RSS does private parties. You can contact them if you were ever interested in having a dance party for a birthday or any other event.
RSS seems to be getting more popular from when I first started going and there were about four people on the dance floor all night. I think word has gotten out about how fun the parties are, but I'm happy to say that it hasn't lost its somewhat underground appeal, yet.
The Dovercourt House is not a club, nor a lounge nor a bar. It is all of these things wrapped into one great venue for the Retro Road Show. A New Years Party ushering in 2009 to retro music is a bit of a contradiction but its oh so good to the very last drop.
RRS is also a great after hours. If you're still up for dancing after the bars have kicked you out, RSS can sometimes keep rocking until 4:30 am. Usually towards the end of the night they'll play some great industrial that is very fun to dance and get dizzy to!
RRS usually comes about twice a month to the Dovercourt House, which is located just a few steps away from the Delaware exit of Ossington subway station. read more
