Karen, the shop owner, has a big personality and is always fun to visit and have a chat with. She knows her stuff, has a skilled eye, and wants to help you find what you're looking for. Today I visited the new location that opened TODAY 3/3/22 (3006 Texas Ave S, St Louis Park) -- great luck!! There's plenty of parking and the space is laid out beautifully. You can really see all the items and everywhere you turn, there's something new. My mom and I like to frequent this shop to see what's new, and I think we'll come even more now that there's a new location! Be sure to follow the owners Instagram (@retrowanderlust) to keep up with any sales she has or if she has changes to her schedule. I believe she's planning on doing a bit of e-commerce, so that will be fun to see as well! We've bought some dresser drawers from RW before, and today my mom picked up a beautiful large blue tablecloth for only $28. She also bought a concrete candle for $14. I'd say pieces are priced fairly -- sturdy and unique antiques are an investment! That said, I think there's something in this store for any budget, there's a wide range of pricing. I definitely recommend going to Retro Wanderlust, and now, even better -- it's in a fun part of St Louis Park. Make a fun day of it or just go to browse the fun collection and go home. I'll be back. I've been here a few times since I moved here. It's your typical "warehouse" retro items. Most items are in OK shape. Those that are in great shape have a hefty price tag especially for non-name brands. Most items are overpriced for what they are but sometimes you'll find something small that is unique. There was a glass set of four and on the bottom of a few there was a Goodwill price tag for $0.59 and she was selling the set for $25. Probably should take the original tags off. It's not bad to take a look around but don't expect to find a super deal. read more

This store has some amazing retro finds. They have a great eye for some fantastic stuff. My home is mostly made up of my retro finds (as a "picker" myself). When I find that I don't have the time to go picking for stuff, I find myself in stores like this to get my fix. To echo what some above have said, the store does not smell. My biggest and only complaint is that the stuff is WAY over priced. Not just a little, but WAY! I've seen stuff there that I've bought myself at thrift stores or estate sales that I have bought for a fraction of the price. Granted, I am super jealous that they have the resource to sell their stuff like this, and I guess there are people out there that are willing to pay such inflated prices for this stuff. But, for people such as myself that know better, it's more of a place to sneak in and take a peak and drool over the beautiful items in the store. read more

Walking out of Retro Wanderlust without having an item make your heart flutter is a rare occurrence. There is a wide array of items, including but not limited to: furniture, barware, clothing, lamps, and knick knacks. If I had the time to hit up estate sales, garage sales, and thrift shops on a consistent basis to find vintage gems...I would. Unfortunately I don't, so I am willing to pay for treasures from someone who has done the leg work. Retro Wanderlust pricing and quality of items compared to other antique/vintage stores in and around the Twin Cities is sometimes questionable. However, Karen is approachable, and if you have questions she is willing to answer them. Trying to move amongst everything can be precarious at times, due to volume of items displayed throughout the store. I appreciate the various nooks set up to give you ideas how to incorporate the items and combination of items into your living space. read more

As a mid century modern collector, this place has some very cool items. It's full and they had a nice sale going today, found a couple bargains. It's a little hard to navigate around the store, but that's because it's packed with stuff. read more

The store has a very strong musty odor, like a moldy basement. Cute vintage items, but expensive and no way was I going to take a risk bringing that smell home. They have some paintings with a $900 price tag in a stinky, kind of dirty store. When I went to the store's Facebook page to ask about the smell, the owner banned me from the page and deleted my comment. I don't think I will be going back. Edit 2/13 The owner sent me a nasty email, accusing me of trying to ruin her business and saying that posting my review here is despicable. I will report this business to Yelp if I receive any more such communications. I realize that it is difficult to receive negative feedback, but this reaction is way over the top, and childlessly aggressive. When I posted on her Facebook page all she had to do was say that she would look into the smell, perhaps something came in by accident? But no, she immediately deleted the comment and banned me from her page. Social media 101, people don't like their comments deleted, responding to a negitive comment shows you are listening to customers and are responsive. I am not sure what she is getting out of this by attacking someone from her target market? It only ensures I am never going back, am going to tell more people about my negitave experience and post it on a more public forum, that she can't delete. Also, amazingly so, a new 5 star review popped up on the page. If that isn't a obvious plant, I don't know what is. Be careful, as Yelp will start to delete your positive reviews if they suspect they are fake. read more

Karen has a keen eye and has the ability to point out 'things you didn't even think you needed' Bought a beautiful couch at more than reasonable price. i love wondering around getting lost in the beauty of the atmosphere. There really isn't much affordable in the store, and yes, when you see the original price tag and then see the mark up price, it does stop you in your tracks. Make no mistake folks, there are deals made before the doors even open at estate sales. Dealers are told where items of interest will be placed, and the price of those items as well. I've been to estate sales where items were marked "not for sale" and then magically they are sold to a store owner/dealer. Where is the honesty in that? My best recommendation to people buying at these types of stores is to dicker, dicker, and then dicker some more. AND be prepared to walk away if you can't come price that both you and the seller are happy with. And do your own research before even walking into the store -- have an idea of what the item is REALLY worth. Don't just accept what the dealer thinks or says it worth. If you're willing to do the leg work, you can find what you're looking for at a fraction of the cost; pennies on the dollar. As for the "musty" smell. Although the prices might seem like Gabberts or Room and Board, the items in this store are REAL vintage, so you might expect some "musty" smells; after all, this stuff has many times come from basements or attics where they've been stored. The furniture is used so it isn't gonna be perfect, but its still good. And many times the quality is better. You have to decide yourself how much clean up or work you want to put into a piece of used furniture. AND always add that cost into your price when purchasing used furniture. UPDATE: I, too, received an e-mail from the owner after I posted my review of Retro Wanderlust. I was a little taken aback because she accused me of lying. I removed the part of my review that set her into a frenzy, not because I was lying but because I'm really not trying to ruin a business - her business or her reputation. I'm also not willing start a e-mail war with a shop owner who I have no intention of buying from. I'm just giving my point of view for whatever it is worth. The only other thing I really wanted to add was this: If you're paying $900 for art, unless it is signed by someone known, then either you're rich or just don't care as long as its "vintage". In reality you could most likely commission a local artist to give you a "vintage" rendition of what you're looking for. AND for a much much cheaper cost. The "upscale" Goodwill in St. Louis Park has a very nice art gallery. Anything that is priced for $900 in there is actually curated and worth the price. read more

I have been here multiple times. The very first time I was in (about 1 1/2 years ago) the owner asked a friend and myself to help her hang a MASSIVE light installation. Ok. Fine. I find a few things that I like and ask her to come down in price. Nope. Interesting being I just assisted with hanging an item for you to sell. Then she told us we should go and give her a good Yelp review being she has some bad ones. She continuted to complain about clients and how they can be so picky and not understand retro designers and her high prices. Brings me to my next point. Prices are insanely high!!! I have found maybe 2 good finds, other than that, it's not worth it. The last time I was in, she ignored me and was extremely pleasant to a designer who was in buying for a client. Great find in keeping w Hopkin's funky hip retro vibe. Check it out for some of the best mid century finds around at fair prices. It's true the proprietor is not giving the stuff away however it was the same who found, paid for, transported, stored, cleaned, and generally made presentable everything in the store so not sure why the bad juju going on here.... read more

If you love mid century modern furnishings and just all out quirky-awesome decor, this is the place to go. They have prime examples of iconic pieces from 50 - 70's. I thought this was one of the best curated shops in Minneapolis area. I wanted most of the pieces in the store! Karen (owner-operator) is an amazing person and I have been to the shop a few times now to show her my latest retro "picks". When you go to RETROWanderlust, make sure to say "Hi" to Lola if she's around because she's absolutely wonderful as well. I can say first hand that the items in store are very well taken care of and there is NO odor to any of the merchandise or shop AT ALL. But, in all success haters will hate. I have been in Retro Wanderlust store several times and would honestly give it a 3.5-rating if that were an option. There are some great and not-so-great things about that store. Let me first say that it does NOT smell bad; I have a pretty keen sense of smell and in my several trips to visit this store in Hopkins I have never found it to be musty or moldy. All the items are clean and in decent shape (or better). So I am not exactly sure what the previous review was talking about, but to each their own. Like many stores in this vein, I have found Retro Wanderlust to be a bit cramped. That's not to say the organization is lacking, just that I have nearly knocked a few items over while looking around. That's something I can easily overlook given the size and scope of the collection she has amassed. My biggest complaint would be on the price of some of the items. While there are definitely worse offenders of this in the Twin Cities area, I think that many of the items that peaked my interest were just overpriced. To echo what a previous reviewer stated, I have purchased things there, and noticed a much lower price tag likely from when the store procured it. I understand that buying and reselling is the nature of this business, but I would suggest taking a minute to remove the old price tags. I also understand that price is subjective, but if you generally follow the types of items carried in Retro Wanderlust, the cost is on the high side. Other than that, I have found the owner to be responsive to questions via Facebook or email, and have always been kindly greeted when shopping in the store. I just bought a gorgeous Hollywood Regency style gold ornate metal headboard from Retro Wanderlust. I thought these headboards were some kind of decorators urban legend so imagine my excitement when I was able to purchase one for my master bedroom. Karen, the store owner could not have been nicer. I've bought a lamp there and it's an okay place but there are much better places locally that price their items better. If you want a REALLY expensive item that you could have purchased at a thrift store or off craigslist for 1/5th the price if you had only found it before the store did....shop here. What an amazing selection. This woman knows how to find the good stuff. There are always "WOW" pieces of furniture available along with an ever changing array of art, lighting and cool decor items. And pieces for every budget too. But you're not done! Check out the room packed with awesome vintage clothing, shoes and textiles.
