Games Universe in Mequon: Sellers Beware!…read more I went into Games Universe in Mequon to sell more than 1,000 Pokémon and Magic: The Gathering cards. I was told the cards would be scanned individually and priced at 50% of TCGplayer. That sounded reasonable. Before going in, I personally scanned every card using CollX to get an idea of the collection's market value. CollX estimated the collection at more than $500, so based on Games Universe's stated 50% buying rate, I expected an offer somewhere around $240-$250. After approximately 24 hours, they called and offered me $64. That works out to roughly 6 cents per card. These were not worthless cards. The collection consisted primarily of vintage commons and mostly unplayed cards that had been in my possession for more than 20 years. There were dozens of cards in the $1-$3 range and nine copies of Seething Song that they themselves valued at approximately $11 each, and a Pokémon Blaziken V that I had valued at around $28. When I went into the store to discuss the offer, Conor explained their system in a condescending manner. I started by asking about the nine Seething Songs. He confirmed they valued them at $11 each--$99 worth of cards. At 50%, those nine cards alone should have represented roughly a $50 offer. According to their $64 total offer, that would leave only $14 for the other 1,063 cards. That was when I knew something was seriously wrong and the experience felt extraordinarily deceptive and predatory. If a store tells customers their cards will be individually evaluated and purchased at 50% of market value, an offer that amounts to roughly 6 cents per card raises serious questions. I have been buying, selling and playing Magic for approximately 30 years. I explained that I was the sole owner of these cards and that they had been in my possession for more than two decades. Conor's response was that none of that mattered to him and that he didn't need to "hear my credentials." It didn't need to become confrontational. It could have simply been a conversation about the cards and the offer. Instead, Conor's increasingly aggressive and condescending tone became particularly troubling as it became clear that I was not going to accept what I felt was an attempt to take advantage of the uneven leverage they apparently believed they had over me. Once I decided to take my cards back, and therefore take the potential profit from those cards away from the store, the entire transaction went sour and the interaction became increasingly unprofessional. Conor became agitated and verbally aggressive, making comments I won't repeat here. I took my cards and left. When I got home, I scanned the collection myself using the TCGplayer app. The results were eye-opening: 1,011 Magic cards: $401.26 61 Pokémon cards: $49.83 Total TCGplayer value: $451.09 Games Universe offered me $64. By their own stated 50% buying guidelines, that collection should have generated an offer of approximately $225.54. Instead, they offered me $64--roughly 28% of what their own buying policy would suggest and only 14% of the total TCGplayer value. The numbers don't lie. I walked in expecting a legitimate card-selling experience based on the terms they gave me. I walked out with my cards because I no longer trusted the process. Maybe there is an explanation for their $64 valuation. If so, it should have been transparent and obvious from the beginning. What I experienced was a massive disconnect between the buying process they described and the offer they actually made. If you are considering selling cards at Games Universe, do your homework first. Know your cards' value, get multiple offers, and don't blindly trust a stated percentage of market value. I will never step foot in that store again. I gave Games Universe an opportunity to conduct an honest and professional transaction, and in my experience, they destroyed whatever trust could have existed. For me, that's the end of the story and the end of my business with Games Universe.

The only store close to where I was that was open before 11am was Quicksave Games, so I drove the extra distance to Fitchburg to check them out. I knew the general value of my games going in and was pleasantly surprised at the amount I was offered in trade. I ended up finding a couple PS4 VR games that I had been searching for and they gave me a little cash too to cover the remainder of the trade value. The games I found were reasonably priced based on their Price Charting value. The store has an excellent selection of both retro and current games. I was impressed by finding video game guides as well. If you need console/controller repair or swapping out dead batteries in video games, those are services they offer. I'm glad I made the decision to stop at Quicksave Games and would do so again if the opportunity arises.

Fun place to walk around. Good selection of used games for a number of systems, and the proprietor will usually buy games back for not too much less than his selling price. Pretty good selection of accessories, too. Helpful and friendly proprietor. Once, I asked him for an HDMI cable, and he was out of new ones, so he gave me an extra one he had for free. I stop in every week to pick up my comic books and I'm always greeted with a smile and a hello from the owners. Together they have both created an atmosphere of awesome for anyone who wants to learn a new game, join and ongoing game league or just to buy a few comics. There were people chatting at the counter when we came in, so Carla didn't see that I was with anyone when I entered the store. She was sure to ask me if I needed help with anything, which is a first in the slew of comic and game shops I've been to recently. The shop is set up with different rooms devoted to your interest, with comics in one wing and games in another, and more general books and collectibles merchandise in the main room where you enter. If you head to the back, you'll find space for game playing and where Don is organizing his back stock of comics. The shop on the whole is bright and colorful, and I felt totally welcome to browse. Don and Carla had a nice word for everyone who came in the store, and it was pretty clear that they have a small army of loyal customers. The outside of the store isn't much to look at - it's situated in an industrial-looking strip mall - but don't let that deter you from the checking out their cozy shop. Even if you're not a full-on geek, there are still things for you here - several of their games are great for a game night with friends.

Which isn't horrible, but the controllers were a whole different level of stupid. They were heavily used, had bad stick-drift, and they cost 50 dollars! Over the amount of time that i had the PS4 i bought 17 games for a total of a little over 150 dollars. so that brings the total up to 500 dollars! i went to return it recently and they gave me 120 dollars. for all of it and some other consoles such as 2 Xbox 360's and 7 controllers and games and a Wii with 3 controllers and about 20 games each. 120 dollars. If you order when you arrive, you may be hanging around for a bit (45 minutes or so in our case) for it to be ready, though hanging out in the game room wasn't a bad time either. Their retail shelves contain several games to peruse as well as other fun bits. My kids liked the four-foot-tall, intricate dice tower that made fun sounds as the dice traveled down. They also had some nerdy stuffies that were neat to see too. And on one side of the showroom are several tables too where you could play a game. My husband came away impressed and with several games. This checked off a board game bucket list item for him!

Just the day before, a store in Appleton offered me $50 in trade for the highest value game by itself (I didn't have the other five with me and only decided to trade all six while I was there). Needless to say, I left with my games and without the console I wanted to trade for, which was also priced higher than at the store in Appleton. The lack of other quality options in Milwaukee dictates that I can't completely rule out going to Game Together MKE again and that's probably why they price things the way they do. I wish there were other options in Milwaukee or that they treated their customers with more respect.

I was told by the staff repeatedly it was pushed back for release. When I brought it up for the 6th time, they finally decided to get the product ordered that I had paid for in advance. RECENTLY. I went back to this store thinking it couldn't have been worse than that. I bought some Dragon Shield sleeves that were manufactured to be a few mm too small for standard cards. When I went to address the issue with the store they told me to take care of it online with the manufacturer rather than swapping the product. I was told "If nothing is damaged on the box we don't handle it." Now I'm emailing the manufacturer as I was told... and finding out the manufacturer does not replace product, but offers reimbursements ONLY IF THE STORE IN QUESTION IS UNWILLING TO HELP. In other words your store should have handled the issue and refused to by admission of the manufacturers own policy. Your employee either lied, or just was unwilling to help. Thanks for taking my $20 for sleeves no refunds. Assholes.

Really incredible to me, though, is the fact that they have a website, kryptonitekollectibles.net, where you can order single cards, and they'll ship! Love that! This place mainly specializes in Magic the Gathering, but they have a ton of board games, cards, dice, and sports memorabilia. I could spend hours here just looking around!
