Have to say, it was one of the best massages I have ever had. I was able to do half sports therapeutic massage and half relaxation. I sit at a desk all day at work, so I get tight knotted back muscles, Carline was able to get all those loosened up. The ambience of the room is perfect, I do like it better than the old place I went to, as it was more dimly lit and added to the relaxation. Though just be warned, with the relaxing atmosphere and massage, it may be hard not to drift off in sleep ha. I'm happy to say that I have found a new regular massage therapist to get the kinks out of my muscles, and to just unwind/de-stress with a nice relaxing massage.

But I trust Yelpers, and so like the food, I had resigned myself to the idea that the massages in the City of Champions wouldn't be as good as back home. But now it appears Volya isn't doing massages anymore anyway, so I was forced to look for a new one. This was a blessing in disguise; otherwise I would not have gone to see Katherine at Compose Massage. The space is very cute, and the room was tastefully designed, if you're concerned about such things while your eyes are closed. More importantly though, the bed was amazingly soft. And warm, with a heater underneath the sheet. I melted right in. Just thinking about it now makes me happy! Katherine gave me the choice of a heat pack, which I also liked. She has a great sense of touch, because while she applied consistent pressure and really worked out the knots, I'm really not sore at all the day after. She also was great at focusing on my problem areas of the upper back, shoulders, and neck. Without my asking, started to work my armpit muscles. Hey, don't knock it til you try it -- most people have very sore rotator cuff muscles, and they're best reached from the armpit. I was so relaxed I almost fell off my bike on the ride home. As a measure of Katherine's commitment to the profession, she gives students a hefty discount and doesn't accept tips. She also suggested exercises for me but I was like, No, believe me, I already have a routine and my back is actually a lot better. Anyway, the lack of tipping (and the discount, for students) makes her significantly less expensive than other masseuses, but you're not sacrificing in quality one bit. I've just found my new masseuse in Edmonton!

I'm passive aggressive, so I haven't been able to bring this up with her. I didn't know what to expect when I arrived today, but I must say I was pleasantly surprised. The space looks like its set up for a few different therapists that operate their own business. The shared space is clean, warm and inviting. Katherine provided me with the initial paperwork that was required before she began the massage. She asked if I'd like a glass of water, or if I needed a minute to use the restroom. I took her up on the second offer, and the restrooms are locked and shared with other tennants outside of the therapists space. Again, clean and modern. This gave the therapist some time to look over my information and she then asked me what I'd like to focus on. I've had a lot of shoulder and upper back pain in the last week, so she ended up focusing on that area. I was so happy that I had a very quiet, relaxing massage. She only asked me a few questions about the heat and the pressure during the massage. Her room is lovely (a 9+ compared to my regular lady's 4, lots of greasy lotion stains everywhere!) and the sheets and blanket were so soft! I noticed on her bookshelf a jar with hair elastics, mint candies and eye makeup remover wipes, along with a glass of water just incase. She's put great thought into the space to anticpate her clients needs. The music was also very calm and soothing. I did enjoy my massage and am very appreciative that I was able to get in quickly to see her. Her appointments are able to be booked online (and as brand new client I was able to do that effortlessly). I saw the appointment on a Friday night (late!) and was able to book for the very next day. I'm pretty confident I'll go again, but I really should have a talk with my regular therapist...

I was recommended to see Ali from 3Leaf because she does an amazing job. I was quite skeptical. For one, it really is heresy to switch massage therapists and two can Ali top Erica at Action Chiro? For the sake of my back, I had to find out. Located conveniently (for me) in the west end off of Stony Plain, you'll notice the décor is kept quite well with hardwood floors, chandeliers, tasteful Victorian style decorations. Complimentary flip flops were available and I was led into a separate waiting room with even more tasteful and colorful furniture waiting for me. Since it was my first visit, I had to fill out the necessary forms complete with waivers but I was also asked if I wanted some chilled water, tea or coffee. That's a first for me. I kind of felt like I was in a spa. Finally, our mysterious therapist, Ali comes to greet me in full scrub attire. She must mean business. We sit down in the typical style massage room and she builds my profile by asking about medical history and preference of what I would like to be worked on. I quite enjoyed the fact that she laid out expectations and asked questions right away. This allowed me to indicate which areas I would like help with and I think it allowed her to build a personalized program for me. After allowing me to change and get ready I knew right away the treatment was much different. She was not shy in getting into the trouble areas of my shoulders and if I had to compare apples to apples, it felt painfully good but much more thorough. She identified and released many more knots and based on my profile suggested that she work on the arms as well since I work at an office and go to the gym. Don't be fooled by her frame, she had some secret special reserve monster strength given the fact her effort dial wasn't cranked to full power. I left feeling very refreshed and had a good chat with her at the desk as I paid. As listed on their site, an hour long massage is roughly $89. What's also really convenient is this location allows you to log in and book your appointments online and make them reoccurring if it fits your schedule. It's a bittersweet feeling finding Ali at 3Leaf. I just hope I can drown away the tears of remorse of leaving my old therapist with the amazing massages I'll be getting in the future after switching. They always acknowledge me the second I walk in and will grab me a pair of sandals and take my coat. They have a cute little waiting area with tea and magazines. I've only every had Michelle Bullock as my massage therapist and she is amazing! She uses the right amount of pressure and some different techniques. I went there today after almost a year of not going. I forgot how amazing she is. I always feel amazing after... I wish I could go every week!

She kept asking me who I wanted as a massage therapist even though I told her this was my first time. The place was really clean and bright when I arrived and the staff were friendly. They didn't have a quiet waiting area tucked away, just a row of chairs in front of reception. The decor was nice, but it felt more clinical than a spa. My massage therapist was friendly and asked me lots of questions and mentioned she used to be a nurse. She talked the entire time though and made it difficult to relax. She admitted to being a smoker and took mints to help mask the smell on her breath, but I could smell it on her the entire time. I also didn't find her technique that great and I left feeling like I needed to book another massage. They only thing I liked was that I got a small bag of Epson salts when I left.
