My ex-husband, Arleigh Birchler, became severely ill last week and had to be rushed here by…read moreambulance. He gets health care through the VA Hospital in Durham, but there was no way he could make it that far. We moved to Goldsboro a year ago and have never been in this hospital before. We were impressed with the response from staff and the quality of care he received. Everything from the ambulance to nursing care was topknotch. Arleigh arrived in the ER screaming in pain from what turned out to be an inguinal hernia. Staff sent him to emergency surgery, saved his life, relieved his pain and coordinated with the VA for medical records and billing. I was kept informed of his progress throughout. The surgical waiting room is very nice, with comfortable seating, a tv, small private waiting rooms for consultations, a large conference table where you can spread out for work on your laptop or whatever, and even free charging stations for your electronics. Vending machines with sandwiches, soda, coffee, chips and candy are nearby, along with an ATM. Most of the cafeteria was closed, but the grill was open. My chicken tenders and french fries were restaurant quality. There are sandwiches and salads in a cooler, an excellent selection of drinks, chips and candy, and some delicious pies and cakes sold by the slice. I was surprised by the low prices. Arleigh's room was small but bery comfortable, with a tv and a recliner for visitors. He is a retired nurse and said the hospital food was quite good. The nurses and PAs were just great. Our thanks to Dr. Stockton and the ER nurses, PAs and residents on call and the ambulance crew. I come from a medical family, and took care of a terminally ill parents, and I've seen the best and worst of the medical field. This is definitely first class. You and your family will get excellent, quality care here and can be confident that you're in good hands. I have a spinal cord injury that needs surgery and I am going to ask my neurologist if I can have it here instead of UNC in Clayton. Y'all are just awesome! Thanks so much!
