Did not have a good experience with the woman who answered the phone. We had all of our locks replaced some time last year (not sure the exact date) and one is giving us trouble probably from the weather hitting it, but the core is twisted in the lock. I tried to explain that twice and both times I was cut off-"what kind of lube?" And "nope, only the last 6 months" I guess won't they warranty our locks and won't look up when the work was actually done. I could barely get a word in. I think she just wanted to get me off the phone and had no intentions of helping me, plus wanted to charge me 80 something dollars to come back out. The employee at the counter was helpful and friendly, letting me know that I didn't even need to take the keys off my key ring. He took 2 min max to copy both keys and I was soon out the door! They give you your keys on a key ring, which is convenient. Rex also sells all sorts of door locks, combination locks, keychains, bottle opener key rings, etc. Heads up, they have a sign that says that if your key says "DO NOT DUPLICATE" and you're trying to get it copied, they aren't able to do so unless you bring a note of authorization on official letterhead. read more

This business ALWAYS manages to give me a good experience-- expertly made, quickly done, cheap price, and friendly demeanors always! I went there the first time when I was a freshman new to university and had to make copies of my keys. I was a nervous and uncertain teenager and they took care of everything for me. I went again a few years later as a junior to get copies-- again, five star experience. I went two more times as a young working professional in the last few years. I went there once again a few days ago to give a gift to a friend and had a great experience (as usual) so I decided to finally leave a review! These employees always know how to make you laugh and are just in general, grounded and down to earth. This time the employee who helped me out was Jacob and he was so respectful and disarmingly welcoming that I found myself relaxing from how stressed I was. He literally turned around with my key in hand and turned back with the newly printed one in hand-- within a few seconds! They are so quick, and it is entirely stress and drama free. To find the key code for my old Toyota truck, I dismantled the door, but got stuck in the last 20% - just couldn't get it back together. I've used Rex Key a number of times as the authorized locksmith for my HOA building's Primus security keys and they've always been reliable and professional. They even have on-call emergency service on the weekends which I've used and the lady who answers the phone is always really responsive and knows how to direct any type of problem. I wanted to write this review because I had yet another tricky lock problem today that they were able to come through for me on. I have a locking Thule cargo box on my van and unfortunately broke my only flimsy Thule key off inside the Thule lock making the carrier non-operational. After much Googling I found a lot of horror stories about this happening a lot (Thule get your act together and make decently thick keys for your locking carriers) and many having to resort to drilling the lock cylinder out to replace it. After ordering and waiting for new replacement lock cylinder and a "release key" directly from Thule I called up Rex Key who recommended that I just swing by with the carrier. They immediately went to work using tiny tools to pry the key fragment out of the lock while I waited. It ended up being quite tricky with the lock pins not letting go of the key fragment but the stubbornness of the job just seemed to motivate them even more. I was very grateful that they would dedicate so much time without any kind of appointment. They managed to fish the broken key out of the lock, make new useable duplicates of the Thule key just by the reference number on the old broken key, and then oil everything up like new. The thing locks and operates now smoother than I have ever seen it and I didn't even need the new Thule cylinder or release key I had ordered online, they are just backups now. I really appreciated the amount of time they spent on this for me and they charged a lot less then what I was expecting for the time. If you have any kind of locking cargo carrier, rack mount, bike rack, etc, especially made by Thule, treat that key delicately and keep the lock well lubricated. If the key breaks off in the lock as it has done for so many others (I still curse your name, Thule of Sweden, however you say your name), take it to Rex, they'll sort it out for you! Geoff really saved our collective a**! So, we recently bought a used 2009 Toyota Camry. It had one working key and one that had been mummified by scotch tape. After peeling away the tape, I discovered to my delight that the circuit board inside was still working! I ordered a replacement from a website, and when it arrived, all we needed to do was get the blank blade cut. Or so we thought! Turns out, as we were telling this story, Geoff recognized that the new fob would NOT work. Why? Well, each fob has a transmitter that tells the car that the true key is present. Without that, the Camry would not have started, and I would have had what amounts to a Valet Key. Geoff swapped out the unregistered fob transmitter for the old one, and the Camry started right up! We had been having trouble with the lock to our front door. It became extremely difficult to get the door to open after turning the key in the lock. A few times I was worried that I would not be able to get into my house. I called another locksmith to come out to the house. When they arrived, they couldn't identify the problem and wasn't listening to me when I explained how difficult it was to open the door. He left without any resolution. Then I called Rex, hoping that they could fix the lock to the door. Ian came out within an hour after calling. He was super patient and helpful. He disassembled the lock and identified the problem. These guys are the best in the business. I always get nervous when I go to Home Depot or ACE Hardware to copy keys because they often do a sloppy job or don't have the key blank. I've had issues in the past where the copy didn't work at all or I had to jiggle the key for it to work. I've never had this issue at Rex Key. They are experts in their field and just talking to them inspires confidence. Old school in the best way. Businesses used to operate like this before cost cutting took over our society. We have used Rex in the past and been satisfied with their work. We recently had a Bonelli door installed and called Rex to rekey it. 5 days after this work, the lock jammed with a key in it. We could not lock this exterior door and could not get the key out. We had to request Bonelli send a tech to fix it. Rex does not seem to be able to handle European lock cylinders. We called Rex to come put and fix the jammed lock. The same tech who did the rekey came out and could not get the key out nor fix the problem he had caused when he was rekeying the lock. Our contractor called Rex to see if they could send out another tech to address this problem, but they refused to do any more work on this problem. Nor did they offer any solutions or discussion on fixing this problem. This is not the response expected from a locksmith. read more
