I explained that I needed to discuss the price with my wife after she finished work at the hospital. He then offered to do it for $250, but I still wanted to speak with her before agreeing. He later offered to fix the door and install the remote for $100 cash without involving the company. I agreed to pay $100 if he fixed it. After about 5-10 minutes, he said the motor needed to be replaced and quoted $299 to install a new one. I told him my wife and I would discuss buying a motor that evening and contact him the next day. He then demanded the $100 as a diagnostic fee. I had asked for a free estimate, and no diagnostic fee had been disclosed to me before the visit. The garage door was not fixed. We disagreed about the payment, and he called the police. After a lengthy discussion, I paid the $100. I'm sharing my experience so other customers can ask for all fees and the scope of work in writing before the technician begins. I would like the company to explain why I was charged $100 after being told the estimate was free and to refund that payment.
