This is the most atrocious facility on the island. I'm a numbers guy and I calculated 5cents per can which would give me around $423 in smashed cans. A big guy with a white shirt and gold chain first gives me a hassle about the cans because he says I brought a lot and then he half ass weighs them and then puts numbers into a calculator. And then he counts the money by hand and gave it to me. The total came out to like $150. I couldn't believe it. It wasn't even close. Asked for a receipt so I could confirm all bags were accounted for and he said no. Total scam. He definitely pocketed the rest of my money. DONT GO HERE. read more

Plastic bottles small, plastic bottles large, aluminum cans, glass bottles. Workers will weigh and calculate your recyclables and ask you to sign when you receive your cash. Process is fast. Located at Waikamilo area, this place has extra spaces for parking in case it gets crowded. They set up 3 lanes with cones, you can back up and unload your cans, bottles into the big plastic bins. Take the bins to them, they will weight them for you, sign the paper and get your cash. Very simple process. I usually go there on a weekday and not that crowded. read more

Recycle feels great... What's greater is this location right on Waiakamilo Road and you just can't miss the World's Largest Wave Mural that it's located right beside it making it a super easy find. What's easier is the process as the decently sized lot makes it easy to park as there was just one other car there so I just reversed in one of two spots for the closest drop off with large trash bins right beside you. Dump all your items obviously each type in it's own bin and the staff does the rest to process it all, then just print your name and not only it keeps it out of the landfill but recycled for greater use. It did take me awhile to keep it sorted as many are frustrated and lose patience with it all and throw it away but in the end it feels great once I drop it off and the little cash back ($9 today) reward is the cherry on top of doing what's right especially on this National Cash Back Day lol! Recycling aluminum cans and plastic bottles in Kalihi, Honolulu, Hawaii... My cousin and aunty drink a lot of carbonated beverages and bottled water at their house. They both don't drive, so I get do their recycling... LOL... I read reviews by my friends, Alexander and Trish... I trust them... so, I went in search of this recycling center... It was a challenge. I went up and down Waiakamilo Street... and down Dillingham Boulevard. I checked Google and found a recycling center on Colburn Street... ahhh... the address on Yelp was incorrect. I submitted an edit online. Reynolds Recycling's correct address is: 1385 Colburn Street Located next to the World's Largest Wave Mural, this Reynolds Recycling is on the corner of Waiakamilo Street and Colburn Street. The entrance is on Colburn Street - which is a one-way street. I had counted the aluminum cans and plastic bottles before I got there. After emptying my bags of cans and bottles into the plastic garbage bins, I gave my numbers to the clerk who tallied up my total. He said that the sign states the limit of containers per day that a customer may bring. Oops! I was over the 200 container limit, but he let me slide. Service was okay, but the location on Colburn Street in Kalihi was dirty and stink. It is not a nice place, but it is the nearest recycling center. The HI 5 program is a tax on the already over burdened and under served. Tax the rich! read more

Recycling in Hawaii is unnecessarily difficult, and places with rude staff or that are difficult to get to make it worse. Thankfully I'm always on the lookout for new locations and this has become my favorite. It seems Reynold's loses locations and has to move frequently so it's nice to have a convenient one again. It's tricky to get in here as it's a one-way street. As you drive in, the parking lot is set up and organized for you to simply back right up to the sorting cans. This makes it easier and faster. They're open 7 days a week from 8am to 5pm with no lunch break closure. Prices are posted for redemption. The staff here is friendly. A bonus is it's relatively cool for the neighborhood with large shade trees over the tent area. read more

We only take our HI5 recycling out a few times a year (not a big soda- / juice-drinking family), so it was a big surprise when the online map directed us to a "new" Reynolds Recycling location, because our old location had closed. Turns out, this location--which has actually been open since July 2020--is much more conveniently located, just off of Dillingham Blvd, and they're basically open all day, every day! When you pull into the parking area, take note of the parking signs to your left, right in front of the redemption area. I didn't read those on my first visit, and ended up parking farther away, where a couple of other cars were parked along the fence...but it turned out those were the employees' cars. As with any recycling center, once you arrive, you'll find a lot of empty trash cans sitting around; you just use those to separate out your own cans, glass bottles, and plastic bottles, then wait your turn for weighing. There was no one ahead of me when I visited--yay for no crowds!--so I went right up, and the whole process took about 2-3 minutes. While the staff was not necessarily chatty, they were nice enough, and easily answered a few questions for me; I had no problems at all with the service. And while I can't necessarily say that their redemption rates are any better or worse than other companies, I definitely like that Reynolds Recycling accepts ALL plastic HI5 bottles--even the large ones--unlike some other recycling companies that only accept the small, individual-sized plastic bottles. I don't have time to visit different places for different sized bottles, so it's all about the "one-stop shop" for me! Also, the Reynolds location we used to visit (before they moved here), once did a hand-count for our plastic bottles--I believe they'll do that for anything under 200 bottles--even after weighing, and the count was almost spot-on with the weighed amount! Long story short, recycling's never going to be super thrilling, but I really appreciated this new location. The area is clean, safe and uncluttered, with convenient parking, good customer service, and I was in & out with cash in-hand, in less than 10 minutes. That is pretty much all I need in a recycling center, so this will be my new go-to place from now on! read more

ONLY reason why I gave 5 stars is bc of the staff that works there. They are helpful and friendly. However....... bit disappointed in the difference in price. Count VS weight. I counted the bottles and it was 100. So, using basic math 100 x .05 = $5. I've been counting all this time, humbug, so I decided to count again (100), but this time I chose weight. Price difference is pretty big. $5 vs $2.65 = $2.35. Almost 1/2 the amount. So I asked why was there a substantial difference... Kirkland bottles are light. I hope this educates the public on making a decision to count and get the full value or if you don't have time, you'll have to take the loss. read more

The good boys that worked at the Puuhale Road yard moved here. Just as good service. Staff is laid back and chill, and if things are slow they'll come over to you and help you unload your bags/separate/count stuff as well. Plenty of barrels, they're designed to handle big loads as well (not as much as the main Halawa plant) but every visit I've made to these boys have always been great. Quick and efficient service, they'll count if you ask. read more

The FIRST time I came here,(couple months ago) there were several workers that walked up to my vehicle and started unloading my recyclables into their containers to be weighed. I was in and out in less than 10 mins. TODAY was another story. I was the only car on the property for the first 10 mins. 3 over sized workers sat around fidgeting on their phones. Not a single word from them. The youngest looking one glanced over at me a couple times but just went back on playing with his phone. I decided to unload my recyclable on my own in their containers and not only until 2 other customer came that they finally got up and started helping unloading. I asked one of the guys what happend to the other workers that are usually unloading for customers, he responded "what other guys?". Then the biggest one of them came over to my pile and stated "Oh next time, take off the bottle caps". I replied okay, I wasn't told that before?. I didn't have a problem the previous time I went there and there's NO sign that states that plastic bottle caps need to be removed and that only it has to be free of liquids. When my recyclables were transferred into their own trash bags to be weighed I notice that one of my bags in the scale stated "17" , I couldn't see if it was pounds or something else, so the person weighing it yelled over to the guy with the calculator (the guy who told me to take Off the bottle caps next time) "10". I was getting jipped! 2 other customers were there waiting, they all weighed our recyclables one after another. We all just looked at eachother since the workers did not acknowledge any of us. Lastly the other words I got was "sign at line 4!" .. I took my money and left. Never going back to the place again. No customer service, no professionalism, not friendly at all and I still think I got jipped! From their misdemeanor I wasn't about to ask other questions. Went today and 3 stalls in front in where in use. Proceeded to get rubbish cans unload my bottles in. Just like every recycling center I ever went to. Apparently you cant unload your recyclables only but in those three stalls. The employee yelled at me and came out and asked me "Wat I Doing"? I told him I was getting my bottles. He told me "I No Listen". And pointed to a empty stall to park. I pointed to another car that was there first. Im suppose to pull up ahead of him? He just walked away. The person I parked next to already piled his empties on the side of the three stalls and was waiting. Apparently he didnt know the procedure also. My regular center is closed today but will always go there in future. They are respectful and extremely helpful even if its from the same company. Got lucky. It wasn't busy at all when we came here. Early morning, around 9ish. Drive slowly or else you'll miss your turn. Everyone for some reason was on their phone. It took 10 minutes for someone to finally helped is. Other than that it was pretty quick. I went there the other day cause everyone in my family saves cans and bottles but Bondy wants to take them down. I banged um up there it in the suv so it was pretty jam packed. The worker came up to the car brought a whole bunch of trash cans and helped me. I was very surprised and appreciative. They don't discriminate they help the homeless sort things out too. This was my children's first experience taking the HI-5 recyclables into a recycling center. This location on Colburn/Waiakamilo is easy to find, the lot is nicely paved, and the spaces clearly marked. The workers were very friendly and quick, making the whole experience a very positive one for my children. We did cans and bottles by count, and it still was very quick. I think our total time, including parking and taking the bags out of the car, to getting paid and driving off, was about 10 minutes or less. After reading mixed reviews at most other recycling spots, this one had all positive reviews. Now I see why. read more
