This weekend had some junks to haul away . I decided to go to the Keehi Teansfer station located right across from the middle St . Bus depot . Saturday morning wasn't too bad but my second trip around 1:30pm there was a line . Although the line goes pretty fast . The only thing about this location they do not except green waste . What do you do with a broken microwave? I asked some guys at church. They told me to go to Best Buy... Nope... Best Buy won't take any appliance associated with food. They told me to go to Home Depot... Nope... Home Depot won't take a broken microwave. They told me to go to "Sand Island". I did a search and asked if she meant Keehi Teansfer Station. Yes! Using GPS, I followed the signs until I reached "the dump". Whew! It was fragrant! I had to roll my car windows down for a few minutes after I left to let some fresh air through the car! The first sign says to "wait here" at the arrow. And attendant called me forward and told me "number 5". I backed in - like the other vehicles. I looked at the guy next to me to see how he threw his items over the railing. I think he was done. Shucks. A younger guy parked next to me and I asked him if I just toss it over... Yep! Ok... If you need to get rid of bulk items, this is the place to go. It's on Middle St. across from the bus depot. There was a little line. We waited for about 10 minutes. Everyone just waits in line in their car. When you get up to the entrance the attendant will ask what you're dumping. Then, he'll tell you what stall to park in. After you park you just dump your junk in this huge landfill. Then, you just exit from the opposite side. We were in and out of there in seconds. I only had to dump a mattress. read more

When it's really junk... Through the slow process of declutter and purging of items that are no longer needed in my personal space I've donated to give it a second chance with other that still have life and to keep it out of the landfill is very fulfilling but when it's items that are beyond it all that are a bit too large aren't allowed for the local disposal that's where it gets to be the real challenge. Not quite the large sofa or a dresser after getting a complete new bedding the removal of mattress and boxspring wasn't an issue but they don't take the bed frame and that's where I had to think and with the first available bulk reservations in February it wasn't the ideal situation and decided to pack my little car and hele over to Kalihi. As many noted the entrance is right across the Kalihi Transit Center which it is and there are signs that will direct you there and Yelp directions did a great job taking you there but as you arrive and head up the ramp be sure to STAY ON THE RIGHT SIDE which then there will be a guy there that will direct you when it's safe to approach and will tell you which stall number to reverse in. He will ask what you have to dispose as some items like mine which are metal bed frames wouldn't be in the large pile over the railing but up the steps to two large bins and if you had some bars or racks and even some barbecue grill I've seen my bed frames were quite a workout as I had to hoist it over the overfilled container was something that I'm certainly proud to have done. You contine to exit once your done to a full circle of the area is a great system and quite easy as disposing of some large items have been the making the dreading system we have still yet to adjust to this refuse station is a great convenience if you're able to load in your car. The Ke'ehi Transfer Station is where I come the most often nowadays if I have any bulky household waste to get rid of and the access is pretty centralized and convenient, besides the fact it is the closest one to where I currently reside. Sometimes the line can get long but you generally do not have to wait too long to park your car and throw your rubbish over the railing. read more

There is a guard who will tell you when and what stall number to go to. 3. All metal objects get thrown into the separate bin across the drop off stalls. The guys here are friendly-they help make the 'medicine go down' if you have the need to dispose of items outside of the standard gray bin or the bulky-item pick-up! Drive up to the end of the line (weekdays are best for NO line), wait for the wave to drive onto the scale then to your assigned spot. There are 2 separate areas for trash vs. metal. If you have both, it's best if you bring a passenger to split up and dispose of the respective items. We were going into town so went here instead of our usual one in Waimanalo. You just drive up, tell the guy what kind of waste you want to dump, and they tell you what stall to park in. According to the county website, this transfer station takes household trash, "combustible bulky items," metal items and lead acid batteries. No large metal appliances or tires. It's pretty stinky inside but not like you're gonna die. Very convenient for when you forget to take out the trash bin on pickup day. read more

Convenient disposal center located closest to Downtown. We had some bulky items to dump since City & County only does bulk pick up for residential and not for businesses. Wasn't hard to find and I realized that I pass it almost daily. Once you drive under the bridge, keep following the road and then on your right will be a hill you drive up and stay on the right lane. The guys will signal you to come forward and he'll tell you which lane to park in. The stalls were all spacious. I was next to one of those bulky trucks and still had plenty of room to maneuver out. Keehi Transfer Station is located somewhat across and away from Kalihi Transit Center. I stopped here three times in the past week to unload household rubbish. First time was early in the week. One of the men working there was gracious about explaining the lay of the land: stay on the right-hand side of the lane while driving up to the transfer station. You'll see the signs. Left-hand side is for commercial trucks. No propane tanks, cleaning agents, poisons, appliances. This place is for ordinary combustible trash. Reverse into a numbered stall as directed, and hurl your trash over the railing into the area below. It was terribly smelly early in the week, and the trash levels against the far wall seemed low. Lots of scavenging birds flying around. Later on Friday afternoon, it was much busier. Another man working there helpfully assisted me into my stall (#11, near the entrance). The smell had lessened, or maybe I was more prepared for it. The trash level against the far wall had risen. Not too many birds inside. Went again Saturday morning (today) around 9 a.m., and was pleasantly surprised that it wasn't busy. Another friendly worker waved me right in with a smile. It was far less stinky than it had been earlier this week, and the trash levels were very high against the far wall, with some piles of trash around the base of the railing that hadn't been there earlier. I didn't see any birds except outside. Overall, I'm pleased with the friendly service, and that this facility exists! Makes it much easier for those of us living in town to dispose of extra household rubbish that doesn't fit in the grey bins. Keep in mind, if you're sensitive to grossness: you may want to wear covered shoes and put a paper liner in your car footwell. Came here to dump a lot of trash from my move to Texas. They were even opened on a holiday. If you have a weak stomach and can't handle the typical trash smell times 100, then you'll start gaging for sure lol. The worker will flag you to drive through and they'll give you a stall number to reverse park your vehicle so it'll be easier to chuck it over the hand rail. Keehi Transfer Station is located on Middle St. It's the only dump station in town that I'm aware of. I found out about this place from calling bulk pick up. Unfortunately, bulk pick up reps have told me wrong information previously and weren't very nice when I called back trying to get clarification of bulk pick up. Scheduling a bulk pick up takes awhile and is rather inconvenient. The only good thing I got from the second call is they told me about Keehi Transfer Station. It's a lot closer than the Waipahu one I went to a few times in the past. There is a shorter wait time too. When you arrive, there is a ramp going up. You will stay on the right side of the ramp. When you get to the top, you wait for the attendant to call you up. They will direct you to which stall to park in. Once you reverse into the stall, you can dispose of your trash. Keep in mind, the place will smell like a dump but you can quickly dump items here at no cost. It's a quick and easy process. I'm so happy to have found this place! read more

This is probably the easiest and quickest and most efficient convenience center to toss your trash. Just make sure you only have combustible items (paper, cardboard, plastic, wood, roofing material, etc.). No green waste! You will see several signs indicating that when you drive inside. I had a bunch of extra large cardboard boxes to rid of that was impossible of fitting into the small blue recycling bin. This is my first time coming to this drop-off convenience center. The entrance is located right across TheBus Transit Center on the sharing the same intersection. You will need to drive in a bit passing by a couple of parking lots and once you see a security guard ahead under a canopy, take the right up the ramp and into the station. Make sure you stay on the right hand side of the road, as the left side is for large garbage trucks. There will be a person out front to indicate which stall to go to. Once inside, and you step out of the car....like a punch in the face, the strong smell and odor of tons and tons of trash will take you aback. When you situated, all you need to do is toss your trash over the railing into the large pit of trash. Don't need to be neat. Don't need to be polite. Just grab your trash and launch'em. Simple and easy. The hours are from noon and to 6PM, Monday-Saturday, which isn't exactly the best hours. I wish it was the reverse, open at 6AM and closes at noon. Cannot believe this over weight guy 2:00-3:00 He said I couldn't dump a cast iron tub and aluminum patio windows. And, they'll not help. It's Friken fine. But, get the "back hole" type machine blocking the "metal" dumpster entrance. I was told I need to load in the dumpster. Whatever it it's fine, me my son will do. Tub weighs close to three hundred pounds. The other 2 Braddah'Z said come back no problem all good. I did approach him to let him kno his co-workers no problem bring'um. I didn't know about this place till someone told me about it. Growing up I was used to going with my Dad to the one in Kailua (back when you could drive up to the landfill mountain). After my Dad passed away, I did a lot of cleaning around the house. You must notify the guys waving you in if you have any metals. Depending on the day or the worker you can dump your metal waste in the separate bin located on the right hand side when driving in. Great place if you live in town for extra household rubbish that couldn't fit in your trash bins or for random cleaning days. If you have green waste from your yard, you must place it in garbage bags or they won't accept it. Unfortunately they are closed on Sundays but hey, the workers need a day of rest too!
