As i had items to drop off at Goodwill that's just two steps away from this location at the Park and Ride in Hawaii Kai, i did have not a lot but a few recyclable items in my car and decided to just redeem them. Super convenient location with lots of parking options at this spacious lot as all i needed to do is place my items in the provided gray trash bins and get it processed...sign and poof! The service is nice and fast no need to drive and line your car up like some other location super easy and basically no lines the process to recycle a chore and with a few bucks...$3.20 to be exact in hand I'm happy. Went shortly after they opened on Saturday morning with only one person ahead of me. Easily got my recyclables in the plastic bins with a little help from one young worker and the other older gentleman weighed and handed me my cash redemption. He said "have a nice day" as I left! I read online weight instructions for separating plastic bottles and filled my car with bags of separated plastic bottles. When I arrived at the Reynolds Recycling Hawaii Kai location, the attendant dumped my separated bags into larger black trash bags, mixing small and large bottles together, before taking them into the recycling truck, where I am assuming he weighed them? I felt that something wasn't honest. Why do we separate bottles according to weight only to have them dumped together? read more

Today I went to in Hawaii Kai area ! Around 11 something to do the cans and the plastic I think they rip me off because I had a small bag of plastic with lids on it And my other bags had plenty plastic in it the black one and I had 5 bag And they told me there don't accept yahoo glass and etc ! They only give me$19 dollars And think they owe me more money I was kinda of disappointed in not receiving more money it least I taught I was supposed get more then $19 what kinda of people is working at recynolds recycling I really what more money what I got for it least $60 well be great read more

The trailer is conveniently located in a large empty lot on Keahole Street in Hawaii Kai across the street of Hawaii Kai Town Center, lots of open parking available. Hours of Operation: Tuesday - Saturday 9 am to 5 pm, Closed 12:00 pm - 1:30 pm So far every time we go we have not had to wait long. The most recent time that we went we had excellent service. Before we got out of the car, the worker was bringing over the trash bags to empty the bottles/cans/plastics into and then he took it over to the trailer to get weighed. This location always has helpful workers that facilitate the processing of the tubs of recyclables. Another plus is that one can park near the delineated entry line so it's a quick trip from the car to the line. Quick cash payment, too. read more

Well, its not my fave thing to do but if its piling up, gotta turn in our 5cent recyclables. This location is convenient in that its located in a large parking lot next to a dog park. Makes it better with the hauling of items from car to the bin line. Pour your bottles/cans all separated by types and colors into the "ewwwy" empty plastic trash bins. The helpful gentleman will weigh/count measure the recycling item count. Another person in the truck will have you sign for your items and you get cash back. It would be a crazy 5 star if there was some sort of sun protection (tarp perhaps) for patrons and workers. read more

Convenient, efficient and a satisfactory recycling center for those of us on the East side. Why only 3 stars? Attitude determines ones altitude! My last visit was not a pleasant one. When your hours are posted last customer at 4:45 pm because you close at 5:00 pm and you turn me away when I show up at 5:40 pm, it's just night right. This is extremely frustrating for those of us that must navigate traffic from work to get to the recycling station before posted times. Ample parking next to bus stop and doggie park definitely is convenient. The help working today are spot on with their expedient service. I will reevaluate my review on my next visit. read more

Doing my part and recycling at my favorite location! Tons of parking and rarely a line, maybe at most there will be 2-3 people in front of me but they are so efficient and fast at weighing everything. Just don't come during their lunch break (noon-1:30pm) when they close up shop. Staff here go wayyy above and beyond, helping to sort your recyclables, pre-bagging your aluminum cans and helping you take it over to the weighing station. Seriously they have the best staff here. Empty bins are waiting near the island in the parking stalls to grab and unload. I used to do everything myself but the staff have really stepped up in recent years and if they are available, they are always helping customers. A huge mahalo to the HK Reynolds staff for making it easy to recycle! read more

A few years ago it was not so great, but the change of workers made a huge difference. So helpful and they did not refuse certain types of recyclables. as the other group did. I keep the caps so I have a count of what I turned in and I came up short $5 to $10, before. With the present group no such thing. Very close to what it should be, give or take up to 75cents. read more

This recycling center is the best (my opinion) in the islands. On one occasion I went to recycle my cans and plastic bottles. I was having difficulty transferring the recyclables from the trash bags to the bins because of my disability (Parkinson disease). The Supervisor told one of the workers to get me a chair to rest in while the workers transferred the cans and plastics into the bins for me. When it was my turn to redeem my items the supervisor told me to stay seated as his workers finished the redemption process for me. You can say that it's their job to help, which is true. However, the kindness and Aloha that I received that day will never be forgotten. read more

I can't express how impressed I was with the service I received at the Hawaii Kai RRR recycling center. I went in the late afternoon in the 4 pm hour. I checked the place out and inquired their process. The guy was happy to share their process. Some of the employees were assisting other customers and I started sorting my recyclables. Not too much later an employee came over and started assisting me with getting my recycles into their bins. I was literally shocked! I usually never get assistance with this process. The guys helping were extremely helpful and saved me a lot of time. I will probably never go anywhere else. I literally felt first class service.. and it wasn't only me I noticed another car pulled up and they got the same treatment too. I highly recommended this location and don't forget to show your appreciation and throw your change in their tip jar. read more

The website clearly says open 9 to 5 on Saturday. We drive in and park at 4. The worker comes over to the car as my boyfriend gets out and yells at him, what time is it . He answer 4 then rudely and loudly says if you don't see no barrels out here that means we are full! Well how did we know that?? So incredibly rude and sassy. I took my daughters to recycle today, it was our first time. A gentleman came to help us right away. I was a little worried because I was unsure about what to do. He walked us through the whole process and showed us how to properly sort and what is not excepted. Great staff! Super helpful, patient and professional. Honestly, there are a limited number of recycling centers to go to, but this one is conveniently located and I've always found the staff to be helpful. So here's the protocol: get your recycling out of your vehicle and line up on the inside of the chain/rope next to the trailer. When you reach the front of the line, which can sometimes be long, you'll separate your plastic, glass, and cans into separate trash cans. The staff will weigh the cans and reimburse you in cash for your HI-5 items. You'll need to sign a log that you exchanged your recyclables but then you're off to enjoy the rest of your day. Ever since we're forced to pay the 5 cent bottle fees, I've been saving my cans and bottles, and bringing them to Reynolds Recycling Center to get my money back! It is conveniently located at the Park N' Ride parking lot next to the dog park, and where the Farmer's Market is held every Saturday. There is ample parking and plenty of space. I don't come here often as I try to not buy bottles and cans since I need to pay the extra 1.5 cents per can, which I don't get back! It can get busy here, but the workers are very quick and efficient, and friendly and professional....as long as they show up to work! There was only one worker today, and the other guy no showed, so it got backed up. But huge props to the guy working today. This is definitely a laborious job when it's only yourself. He better get double pay! I feel whenever I come here, there will ALWAYS be these inconsiderate people who just arrived and walk to the front to take the plastic containers to their cars to put their cans and bottles when there are several people waiting in line, under the blazing sun, holding several large trash bags that are waiting for those containers as well. Whenever they need another, they'll just walk back to the front and take it before any of us waiting in line has the opportunity to take them. I can't stand those people. They have black hearts. I couldn't stand it anymore, so even though I was finished organizing my things, I went to grab containers for the folks behind me who were dragging bags. I was competing with three other jerks, but I managed to get them before they got them all. Where's the patience and consideration? If they all took every container and the people in line are still dragging their bags to the front, how will the worker check? How will he weigh it? Being so busy, he only had one empty container to check the cans and bottles. Ok, ok. Enough of that. Bring your cans and bottles here, get your money back. They even buy spam and Vienna sausage cans for 5 cents per pound! Plus other metals. However, they do not take wine and hard liquor bottles. Also, depending on the person checking, bottles with no labels get tossed too, so make sure you stick the label back on! read more

My wife and I arrived at the Hawaii Kai recycling center around 1140-45. Just to make sure we didn't cut into there lunch break, my wife walked over to ask if we still had time to drop off some hi5 cans and bottles for refunding. The main guy that does the weighing and bagging of cans and bottles told my wife "yup, you got time" and had her bring 3 Rubbermaid trash cans over so we could fill them with all our cans and bottles, but as soon as he saw me open the hatch of my car, and started pulling out trash bags filled with recyclables his whole attitude changed. We had around 7-8 40 gallon trash bags full and was trying to hurry up so we could bring it over, when out of no where the can attendant hurried over to what I thought was help us, which he did... sort of, he started barking orders and telling me and my wife to "hurry up" and telling her she is moving to slow, that we cutting into there lunch break. My wife has a disability, progressive multiple sclerosis or MS, which kinda prevents he from doing things to quickly due to constant nerve pain. He was also telling me to hurry up, while at the same time to slow down, that I'm gonna make a mess, all while I was picking up all the cans and plastic bottles that was falling out of the trash cans they use to transport from car to recycling area. He kept on telling us that we were cutting into there lunch, that we "should" be there at 1130 at the latest because, again, that they supposed to be at lunch already. When I brought up the fact that there lunch break is, according to the Reynolds recycling google page starts at 12, he started telling me to "not talk back to me" and that I should be more respectful. I told him I was sorry that we came so late, but he was the one to tell my wife ok and that he could have just told her that we are going on break and to come back at 130, when they were gonna reopen. When all the cans and bottles were weighed and I was being handed my refund, I just happened to glance at my phone when I realized that it was a minute after 12, it was 12:01 pm, so we cut into his hour and a half lunch break by a single minute. Another thing about the Hawaii Kai Reynolds center is that they never let customers actually see what the weighs come out to and if you try to take a peek, the very rude can "wrangler" will start telling you, almost yelling and cussing at you to get "the hell" away from the scale. I have yet to get a refund that is even close to my calculations at home and the more I bring to recycle, the more money gets skimmed off the top and when it is brought up that their weights and my weights are sometimes off by as much as $5, today it was the highest yet at $5, Mr. Can attendant give me some bullshit lie about how my home scale isn't as accurate as the broken down scale they have ( I actually have a butcher scale that is accurate to +/-1mg Next time I decide to use your company, I'm gonna go to the kapahulu recycling center. The workers there are always polite and are very accommodating if you happen to come a little late and I most usually get a breakdown of the weights and actually get to see what the scale says so I can do the adding myself to find out what my refund would be and they are usually right on the money or at most $.50-.75 less than the weight I had before coming. So all in all the kapahulu Reynolds recycling center is everything that the Hawaii Kai center is not. read more

Their hours on Yelp say they are open on Sundays from 8 to 3:30pm. It is now Sunday at 10:20am and nobody is here and the center is closed. I think these recycling centers are obligated to stay open during the days/hours they agree to with the City. The City should review whether they should be able to maintain their license if they will not stay open during their business hours. Disappointed to have prepared several bags full of cans and bottles to support recycling and have the designated City recycling center closed during hours they advertise they are open. read more

I tend to let the recyclables pile up and get it all done in one big go. I got $24+ today for example. This recycling center is next to the Hawaii Kai dog park. Weekends get a little busy and I've found it best to go during the weekdays if at all possible, avoiding the crowds. I give the workers credit for doing this job - not that glamorous. Hope they get paid decently. They are efficient every time. read more

Took my recyclables here this Saturday. A worker was extremely unpleasant and kept yelling! He wasn't wearing a mask, nor did he social distance himself! He yells at customers constantly because it was later in the afternoon and he kept saying why do you people come here when we are about to close! Which it was only 3 p.m. he helps put the recyclables in a giant trash bag but throws the bags all over the area that other people's bags are getting mixed up. While he helps one customer he goes to the next to talk crap about the prior customer! This employee is very rude! He swears. Yells and throws stuff around. I don't know if anyone else has witnessed this guy being crazy but I have honestly never came in contact with someone with such rage and unpleasantness! I hope that no one else has to experience this guy as I did! Very scary! This employee refused to give me his name. He looks to be in his 50's, dark complection about 5 ft 6. You will not miss him though because he will be the only employee yelling and throwing thing around. I think I will video my next encounter with him. Hope he doesn't start getting physical with customers as he does verbally. read more
