We signed him up to go to the karate school soon after and he has really blossomed - he was more of a shy uncertain kid with little to no self confidence now he has no problem raising his hand , offering to helping others , speaking up and using his voice , he's like another child The thing I really love about them ( one of many things I should say ) is they send forms to the elementary school to see how they are doing and keeping up with their studies as they really emphasized how important it is to do well at school and be respectful at home They also do these wonderful events that the community is invited to : open houses , holiday parties , summer BBQ 's , back to school events , parents night outs so many to name! I know many of the martial arts schools in Sullivan County and I have frankly never met a teacher like the man who runs this one. Excellent school of Martial Arts. The teacher, Mr. Belsito, is clearly invested in his students and in particular those younglings who come to his school with issues which cause them to be distracted or not do well in school, and those who are bullied. Mr. Donald E. Belsito Sr. does NOT teach kids to be aggressive, rather he teaches them the wisdom to walk away from a battle when they can, and also the wisdom to know how to defend themselves when they must. I wish he would teach his courses in the schools here in the local Sullivan County districts. In the spring of last year I brought him my youngling who was getting into fights at school, not doing well in his studies, significant aggression issues due to being bullied and a haphazardous self image. It is now November and this kid has made a 180* turnaround in every aspect of his life. It is almost surreal how the constancy of Mr. Belsito's martial arts instructor tutelage, his patience, his attention to detail and abhorrence of sloppy work, has been a major factor in my boy's life. He has made Student of the Month this year; he brings home no less than a 90 in his grades; his teachers are ecstatic at his new enthusiasm in class, his focus, his quest to actually learn, and his attention to detail. I refuse to believe it was only coincidence that the turnaround occurred as he became more intensely involved with his martial arts classes. The classes for younger children that my son attends have a good mix of instruction and activities to keep the kids engaged and active. They have a nice area for parents to sit and for my daughter who is not yet old enough for karate to play while her brother trains. I have done martial arts for years and TOKPV came recommended. I've watched his teaching and training style with his students. He stresses defensive techniques and teaches his students to only use their karate only to defend themselves against aggressors. He celebrates the academic accomplishments of his elementary and high school students.
