When ever I drop in while traveling for work I am always cautious of the vibe at the gym to ensure I can get a work out but avoid any injuries. Everyone I drilled/rolled with was respectful and looking to learn. You can tell coach cares about creating a safe, high‑level training environment. I know many of the martial arts schools in Sullivan County and I have frankly never met a teacher like the man who runs this one. Excellent school of Martial Arts. The teacher, Mr. Belsito, is clearly invested in his students and in particular those younglings who come to his school with issues which cause them to be distracted or not do well in school, and those who are bullied. Mr. Donald E. Belsito Sr. does NOT teach kids to be aggressive, rather he teaches them the wisdom to walk away from a battle when they can, and also the wisdom to know how to defend themselves when they must. I wish he would teach his courses in the schools here in the local Sullivan County districts. In the spring of last year I brought him my youngling who was getting into fights at school, not doing well in his studies, significant aggression issues due to being bullied and a haphazardous self image. It is now November and this kid has made a 180* turnaround in every aspect of his life. It is almost surreal how the constancy of Mr. Belsito's martial arts instructor tutelage, his patience, his attention to detail and abhorrence of sloppy work, has been a major factor in my boy's life. He has made Student of the Month this year; he brings home no less than a 90 in his grades; his teachers are ecstatic at his new enthusiasm in class, his focus, his quest to actually learn, and his attention to detail. I refuse to believe it was only coincidence that the turnaround occurred as he became more intensely involved with his martial arts classes. So my husband is super picky about martial arts since he has extensive training in martial arts himself, when he found out that Sensei Mike Polito is starting the kid class, he was excited. The class is organized in warm up, punches, kicks, forms, free style fight, and closing. Thanks to the lifted restrictions, mask is no longer required. From watching them practice, I really appreciate how patient yet firm sensai is with the kids. My daughter loves the class and looking forward to her continuous training with sensai. P.S. the adult class is from 8-9 pm Monday, looks pretty interesting too.
