After going to consultations with many surgeons, it was an easy decision to go forth with the surgery after meeting with Dr. Z and his staff. The initial appointment was easy to schedule, and I was very satisfied with everything from the location, affordability, professionalism of his office staff, and his personal evaluation and details of the procedure. He was extremely patient with my questions and concerns. After seeing him, I wanted this to be done ASAP! All my appointments were scheduled ahead of time. I was given specific instructions on medications pre and post-surgery, with detailed explanations of what to expect day of surgery, post recovery, and beyond. Extremely involved, brutal surgery. He made it sound like a very minor surgery and I'd be out of the boot and walking like before surgery at 5 weeks max. But could walk in a boot during this time. So a week later I go in. I come home and am in a cast and can't weight bear . Pain is absolutely unbearable. No instructions or advice for when I go home what would I need to get through this. I had to get a walker because crutches were dangerous. A raised toilet seat was needed. Never asked if I would have help when I got home. For weeks after surgery. I couldn't walk never mind drive. Foot hurt 24/7. Finally called the office to get an appointment for a follow up. 2 weeks later I'm in his office and he removes dressings etc... Said it looks good. I'm given a boot that's so painful to put my foot in . Told to get to walking. Really. My foot is a black and blue balloon. 2 long incisions beginning to heal. This surgery is intense and emotionally harrowing. I was not told this part of it. Any time I called the office they were so rude and condescending. I cried every time I hung up with them. I'm a nurse and not a whimp either. I had so many questions for the surgeon. About pain, incision care, weight bearing status, etc... No compassion at all. Staff is really uncaring and abrupt. It's sad. I feel for other surgical pts of his. No follow up except for an appointment 2 weeks after surgery. Be humane. A phone call to check on me and to answer any questions directly after. You have so many different locations you work out of I could never reach you. And I left a few messages with questions I had and got zero response. Asked to speak with you and just was brushed off. I was drowning in pain and bewilderment I had this brutal surgery without being prepared at all. It was cruel. This is a 1 year complete recovery surgery. 1 year. I joined a support group on Facebook. Over 10,000 members. Some surgeons are wonderful with communicating and explaining. Helping prepare patients for when they go home so they have what they need. I received none of this. None. Called and asked when I could drive since it was my right foot. No return call. Asked what I should wear after the boot came off. Nothing. The Lapiplasty support group helped me do much. I was no longer alone. I wasn't unusual. This is a brutal surgery and it's many months before I will recover. I'm 15 weeks post op and still walk awkwardly with a limp. And still swells and is painful. I had to ask for an order for physical therapy. Wasn't offered. Shameful. You atrophy quickly and lose range of motion and muscle. Quick. Been going for pt 3X week for 8 weeks. Intense. Helping but still limping. We've spent our fair share of time on floor two of the 2 Dudley Street building so this review is to provide information about our experience on floor two only - as we have not had to visit any of the other floors for our particular needs. Floor two is VERY busy at every moment of the day and it can be an overwhelming first visit. Here's what you can expect. When you step off the elevators, you will need to line up to the right behind the "wait here to be called" sign in the lobby. From here, one of the receptionists will call you over, check you in for your appointment, take payment, and direct you to which waiting area you should go to (they have three - A, B, and C) DON'T WALK AWAY FROM THIS DESK WITHOUT GETTING YOUR PARKING GARAGE VOUCHER for the Dudley Street garage - it costs $2 for a flat rate "chaser ticket" (which is a huge savings) and is payable in exact cash only. After checking in with the receptionist at the desk in your assigned waiting room, they will send you to a tech who will remove your cast before sending you to the X-ray desk. You will need to check in here too and hand them the paperwork provided by the person who removed your cast. Both the X-ray techs and the cast techs are friendly and explain exactly what they will be doing before they do any work. They introduce themselves and explain to the kids what noises they may hear and even demonstrated that the saw used to cut the cast will not cut your skin (how does it know the difference? so neat!) You will then be asked to return to the waiting area you were in previously and will wait to see the doctor. Usually this takes just a couple of minutes while they wait for the X-rays to become available. The visits are straightforward and depending on your progress you may or may not have to have the area recast. Casting options are limitless and they have a variety of materials, colors, and enhancements (like glitter) they can add to personalize it for you. If you'd like a waterproof option, tell them ahead of time so they can prepare that for you (the only color option for that is plain white). You will pay out of pocket for the "upgrade" as many insurance plans won't cover the additional expense but it may be worth your while depending on the time of year and length you'll need to wear your cast. You may also choose to buy a sling or other cast aid directly from online or local pharmacy, as many times insurance plans will bill OUTRAGEOUS prices if they have already provided one at a previous visit and you find yourself in need of a replacement.

Complete with phones ringing and nurses talking loudly and with very bright lights shining down into my eyes. There were only 2 people in the ER. It was a Sunday evening and there was only 1 doctor in the entire ER. Finally after an hour I got an examination room and an hour later the doctor came in. Mumbled a few things , did a quick exam and left. I got nothing for pain. The room was cold and no blanket was offered. He looked like he didn't want to be there. The call light worked but nobody came and I needed a urinal bad. The TV remote was not working and I was told that other remotes didn't work either in some of the other rooms. 2 hours later still nothing. I finally left my bed and went to the nurses station and I told her to call me an ambulance as I wanted to leave. She said that I couldn't leave and to go back in my room and that's when I asked her if there was only 1 doctor available for the entire ER. She didn't even answer me verbally but nodded her head indicating that there was only 1 doctor available. Once I got back in the cold room without a blanket a new patient was brought in on a stretcher. She was having some kind of mental crisis and was screaming at the top of her lungs. Wouldn't you know that they rolled her stretcher right at the entrance to my room and left her there. It went on for about 2 more hours. My labs had come back and I was out of range for my blood level ( I'm on a blood thinner) so the nurse gave me a vitamin K pill to swallow and a ginger ale and she was pleasant and asked if I wanted a blanket and I asked her for a urinal. The patient that was brought in screaming had still not received the attention of a doctor. My nurse asked if I wanted the glass door closed due to the loud patient in front of my room. This was at around 10:00 pm. With the door closed the noise from the loud patient was muffled enough for me to get some sleep. At 4:00 am the ambulance arrived to take me back home. I never saw the doctor again and the ambulance EMT's removed my IV and off I went. It was so desolate in the ER that night. No friendly nurses to wave to and thank. It was eerily quiet as I was being wheeled out. I didn't like my experience at all
