Went to the ED a while back and staff was kind, wait was less than 20 minutes and the care was thorough.

I did not like the fact that it took hours to finally get a doctor. I was triaged in the hallway next to the nurses station. Complete with phones ringing and nurses talking loudly and with very bright lights shining down into my eyes. There were only 2 people in the ER. It was a Sunday evening and there was only 1 doctor in the entire ER. Finally after an hour I got an examination room and an hour later the doctor came in. Mumbled a few things , did a quick exam and left. I got nothing for pain. The room was cold and no blanket was offered. He looked like he didn't want to be there. The call light worked but nobody came and I needed a urinal bad. The TV remote was not working and I was told that other remotes didn't work either in some of the other rooms. 2 hours later still nothing. I finally left my bed and went to the nurses station and I told her to call me an ambulance as I wanted to leave. She said that I couldn't leave and to go back in my room and that's when I asked her if there was only 1 doctor available for the entire ER. She didn't even answer me verbally but nodded her head indicating that there was only 1 doctor available. Once I got back in the cold room without a blanket a new patient was brought in on a stretcher. She was having some kind of mental crisis and was screaming at the top of her lungs. Wouldn't you know that they rolled her stretcher right at the entrance to my room and left her there. It went on for about 2 more hours. My labs had come back and I was out of range for my blood level ( I'm on a blood thinner) so the nurse gave me a vitamin K pill to swallow and a ginger ale and she was pleasant and asked if I wanted a blanket and I asked her for a urinal. The patient that was brought in screaming had still not received the attention of a doctor. My nurse asked if I wanted the glass door closed due to the loud patient in front of my room. This was at around 10:00 pm. With the door closed the noise from the loud patient was muffled enough for me to get some sleep. At 4:00 am the ambulance arrived to take me back home. I never saw the doctor again and the ambulance EMT's removed my IV and off I went. It was so desolate in the ER that night. No friendly nurses to wave to and thank. It was eerily quiet as I was being wheeled out. I didn't like my experience at all read more

In a time where the whole world is suffering through a pandemic, it's always comforting to know that there is some place you can to and know you will get the best care possible. And that place just happens to be Roger Williams Medical Center. After literally being thrown out of Kent Hospital the night before where I had taken my son for help with Covid, I was at my wits end trying to find another facility to help my son. His oxygen level had dropped to 83 and I was sure he wasn't going to get better. I had checked Miriam, RI Hospital , Fatima and they were all filled. I was not going back to Kent, ( where I have always gone for the last 40 yrs), and started scouting the internet for other options. We found that Roger Williams Medical Center had beds so we headed right there. When we arrived, the nurses immediately took my son in and assessed his situation. They told us that they were admitting him as his oxygen level had significantly dropped to a dangerous level. Within less then 24 hrs, his Doctor, Dr Raimondo, told us that my son had a very bad case of Covid and he had so many Covid crystals in his lungs that he wasn't sure if he would make it! Upon hearing the news, my husband and I were devastated! My son had been informed of his prognosis 4 days later. He was scared! We were scared! I spoke to the nurses, many who were sick with Covid themselves but still came to work, and they assured us he was getting the best care possible. My son decided after a week and not knowing what would happen to him, he just wanted to be home with us and his doggies. We thanked the nurses and his doctor for their exceptional care, which we felt he would not have gotten anywhere else. Update: my son survived this ordeal remarkably. When he went for his first checkup, all the Covid crystals were gone! Dr Raimondo called my son his miracle child! Everyone at this charter hospital is always so kind and smiling, they have always been quick to find the ailment and treat my grandma with an excellent care. Anyways. First Responders thank you also for your service. They shouldn't over crowd our trauma centers and need to divert some patients to Roger Williams Uni Med Cntr. now that other charter im north prov. this hospital is horrible, arrived in an ambulance with bp at 203/122 and was left in the waiting room for 5 hours and nobody checked on me once. Left hospital with same pain and with hbp. There was only 1 doctor for the whole ER. I don't know what else is happening there, but it's worth investigating. read more

The negligent RW medical team misdiagnosed me, ignored severe chest pain for my 4 day stay, and had the audacity to ask for a psych evaluation/full tox screen when I didn't want to leave the hospital because my symptoms were being ignored. Went to Miriam the next day and with one test their medical team realized my heart was enlarged and full of fluid. They also took the time to correctly diagnose the initial disease causing the immobility and chest pain. Took 11 days but they were diligent and got to the bottom of this condition. read more

They only have 1 Dr on at all times because bankrupt. Under staff nurses one told me since covid they figured out can work less harder so understaff. Drs literally sent me home with 2 wrong CT scan results. 3rd time after trying to follow up with Gi drs booking in June. Went elsewhere they found something on my pancreas yet Roger williams says they found nothing but swelling from crohns. Still sent me home not keeping anything down after 30lb weight loss. Went to Boston sick of RI hospitals Understaffing. I will say Dr Rivard there and she works at Fatima is a rare Dr she is very good. Hospital nit so much and she has rules to follow. In Boston the thing not on my pancreas was a rupture leaking into my body which explains th severe crohns attack the set of at first leading to metabolic acidosis admitted when acidosis went away even with me saying feels like crohns but more to left and higher where my pancreas is still never checked my pancreas. Funny I was right. When are drs going to start listening to patients? Especially when a patient lost thier leg from a Dr not listening 3 yrs of misdiagnosed to find out had crohns disease 27 other wrong diagnosis with severe infections in my stump. Something is very wrong. I have diagnosed trauma caused ptsd since so I do not go into a hospital unless I've been very sick longer than 99 percent of people woukd wait. So after hearing I'm fine follow up with gi even though can't eat or drink take meds at home haven't peed in days but nothing wrong gave me 1000 ml fluids still hadn't peed nothing wrong there take half a sip throw up double in pain nothing wrong. Well Mass drs not only listened ignored good bloodworm after fluids and iv meds to boost it. Sure enough not only found what was causing this for y wks begging for help. I will be on iv antibiotics to clear infection I supposedly didn't have and then fix rupture and actually get better. The worst part is I write down anything for my health they tried saying this had gone on 6 months. For one last crohns attack was may 24 I hadn't seen a Dr since other than treating my leg infections online myself. This started Dec26th first time I went was new years eve. After waiting with severe crohns flare. So no I don't go unless no choice and adimateky explained that begging for answers to get wrong ones and excuses. If I could leave zero stars I would there is a reason a hospital that charges hundreds for Tylenol is bankrupt. Mind you ri er have 4th highest wait times in nation. The new thing is they half treat you in waiting rooms and still wait 5-10 hrs then usually another 1 or 2 to actually start treatment. ​the picture was from after I left there waiting for my sister's husband to get home to go to Boston. Says on site that you can have them call you about you blood test and other test you may have had. But then say you have to wait for 2 or more hours in the waiting room for the results. When asking them If they used my chart a way to see test results "oh we don't use that " in a rude way, even when they let someone else get a call for the results and give you an attitude when asking a simple question. read more

Horrible experience with my relative. I was treated poorly . My relatives gold necklace she wore for over 25 yrs was stolen. Communication was non existent after multiple attempts trying to reach someone on my relatives whereabouts. Reporting them to Dept of Health. read more

Terrible experience ! They wanted me to wait over 5 hours for an injection in my SI joint ! I hadn't had anything to eat or drink after midnight because I was supposed to get anesthesia. First they changed my appointment from 6am until 1pm. I was in a hospital room in a gown. They then informed me that the procedure wouldn't take place ,until after 5:30 pm ! I had to pay someone for transportation because I was supposed to get anesthesia and wasn't supposed to drive myself home. What a messy situation that was ! I want an apology. I have a new appointment on October 18th, & they won't tell me the time ! I have to hire a driver again . read more

i wish i could give 0 stars!!!! absolutely terrible experience in the ER psych ward.. i was admitted for severe depression, and after taking my personal items, and making THREE separate attempts to draw my blood from both my arms and my hand for "medical lab tests" (that they didn't even tell me about) i was left in my room alone for HOURS without anyone communicating with me. i had no idea how long i was even there until i was eventually discharged 7 hours later. finally the man who saw me about 6 hours in did absolutely NOTHING for me other than tell me my therapist of 1 year (who i love very much) "must not be doing her job well otherwise i wouldn't be here" and make a bunch of patronizing comments without knowing anything about me other than what was on my chart. he also repeatedly called me the wrong age even after i corrected him twice... i genuinely would've been better off dealing with my symptoms on my own. read more

Don't be fooled by the "wait time" on the website. Went in tonight solely because of the "9 minute wait time" on their website. I sat in the ER (think Kennedy Plaza but indoors) for 4 hours- just for the ER doc to come out and tell me, in public, that he didn't know what was wrong. He prescribed me steroids (telling me he wasn't hopeful they'd work) told me to find a specialist, and that was that. Zero help, zero effort, zero progress. Meanwhile, a half dozen drunk homeless guys got admitted hours before me. This place is nothing but a homeless shelter/drunk tank. Save your own life and go anywhere else. read more

Zero stars. I went in to ER for a psych eval and medication because I was having a psychotic episode and needed alcohol detox. Did not receive psych eval or medication. I was sent to behavioral health unit aka suicide watch. No one checked on me the whole night. I had to ask for food and water. In the middle of the night I had to go out of my room to find someone and told them I'm having alcohol withdrawals. They said no you're not (ok...been there before pretty sure I know) so they wouldn't give me any meds. I asked for some juice bc I could feel my blood sugar was low. They said how could you know that if you're not diabetic. This is when I questioned what circle of hell I had landed in. Stayed up all night starting detox with no help, listening to staff talk about their dating lives. I also had a broken arm at the time and it took hours to even get ibuprofen. I eventually went to the detox unit where those nurses were great. But I would caution anyone against saying anything that will get you into suicide watch here. That staff is completely unprofessional and incompetent, actually useless. They even charged me for ER visit on the spot when I was clearly in no state to defer or make clear judgement. Can't say enough bad stuff about behavioral health unit staff. Horrible, painful, traumatic experience. read more

Absolutely the worst experience I have ever gone through in a hospital. I walked in on Wednesday the 11th at 4:30 am! There wasn't anyone at the check in window I rang the bell on the wall and a woman answered asked me why I was there I explained I couldn't see through my right eye and that I didn't think it was pink eye because I have had pink eye before. And told her it was very irritated. She than instructed me to wait in the waiting room. I never even saw her face. I walked in the waiting room there wasn't anyone waiting but me. An hour and so went by and still nothing. Not a human being in site. I than went back to the window to ask where the bathroom was due to their renovation everything looks different than before she answered the bell with it'll just be a few more minutes before I could even ask her where the bathroom was again this was a voice on the intercom who never showed her face. I walked into the bathroom with now what had developed severe pains in my appendix . I came back to the waiting room with now two more people who themselves were told to wait by a voice. I began to experience nausea and severe body pains I went to ring the bell to tell her that my pain had increased and I need to be seen right away. Instead she ignored my calling of the bell. A firefighter who came from the outside had instructed I sat down but at this point I was in so much pain my body led it self to lay down. Now the time has been 3 hours of wait. I couldn't wait anymore. So I left drove myself home worried I would pass out on the wheel I needed help and couldn't find it at this hospital. I got home and immediately my mother called the ambulance, I was taken to Fatima hospital with severe pains that I was then treated and found out I had kidney stones. So thanks Roger Williams for practically not giving two shits about people. Absolutely the worst experience I have ever had in a hospital. Never again read more

My bad experience was with a medical secretary by the name of Melicka that works in the Resident clinic dept on Maude street Providence RI, before this horrible experience I held Roger Williams aka Chartercare at a very high standard but now I am currently looking for a new doctor anyways I. Allows the clinic yesterday to make an appointment and to bring my adult daughter in as a new patient, Melicka gave me my new appointment and then I ask her about giving my daughter an appointment and you could tell she was aggravated because her phone demeanor was very rude, she first told me she could not give her an appointment until she calls her other doctor and signs out of that office, I told her my daughter does not currently have a primary doctor and she made a rude comment like yeah right, I was shocked this girl was being so rude to me, then she told me well someone is going to have to call you back because we are doing clinicals right now therefore I told her this is the second time we have been promised a call back and no one has called, she proceeded to tell me she did not have time and this so ridiculous, and put me on hold without even telling me I was going to be put on hold, I was in total disbelief Chartercare has such a rude unprofessional person dealing with patients of this clinic, of course I am now left with finding a new doctor for both me and my daughter read more

Came here with post surgical pain since the hospital is a couple blocks from my home. The Nursing staff was great however the doctor (Dr. Kurl) was atrocious and she literally spent 10 seconds in the room. No exam or anything. Her reply to me was "your doctors don't work here so there is nothing I can do for you. However your going for a chest-X-ray because you have a cold." The doctor had absolutely no bed side manner, compassion or empathy. Even other staff I came into contact with laughed and said "yeah we have had a lot of complaints about her. I'm sorry." I'm giving three stars because this is based on this experience alone and not the overall average experiences I've had at this location. I went to this ER with sudden onset dizziness, lightheadedness, un -coordination, and balance, coupled with a headache. Evidently it was the worst time to go as apparently their entire company wide systems had been victims of a ransom ware attack and there wasn't any computer systems up and running. Considering the latter, they handled things fairly well - until - it came time for a Ct scan and shift change. While I was taken into the back within a fairly reasonable amount of time, when I went for the Ct scan, I was told results would be read by an on-site physician since their systems were down, and at the most, that would take place within a half an hour. I said "ok, should I call my ride then?" (It would've easily taken my ride an hour to get there if not more considering the traffic, area road construction and distance to get me). I was told I could. Four hours later, they told me I had vertigo and that they were waiting for the Ct results. By this time I had contacted my ride and told him to turn back as I had not been briefed or spoken to since my return from Ct scan. I am diabetic and within that four hours, not one person even so much as looked in on me. I had already been there for approximately 4-5 hours as it was, so now we we're approaching the 9 hour mark in total time spent at this ER. I had to use the call button to get a nurse in my room. When she finally came (mind you, everything was fine until the 7am shift change), I explained to her the situation and she told me it shouldn't be much longer and they once again used the ransom ware hacking as an excuse. Another 2 hours go by, still nothing. Finally, I called the nurse again and told her they were either going to admit me or release me at this point. She tried to get me to sign an AMA, and I refused, citing that I was not leaving AMA and would gladly come back if they spotted something suspect on the Ct scan. They could literally just call me and I would come back. However, they had already told me it was vertigo and treated me for it with medication, so to keep me sitting there for hours on end just waiting on Ct scan results was a waste of time. If something looks bad, CALL ME. I left without any discharge paperwork, without ANY further "medical advice" (how can you leave AMA, when no medical advice was given?), no instructions, they just took out my iv and out the door I went, still uncertain on what actually caused my symptoms, or how to manage what they suspected it was (vertigo). This is highly unusual for this ER. They are usually top notch and my go to ER for anything that can't be handled in an urgent care setting because it may be more urgent than what an UC can do. Eventually, another nurse "recognized" I am diabetic and offered me orange juice since I had been there now almost 12 hours and my glucose was never checked, and I hadn't ingested anything in more than 20 hours. Epic fail. Also, people need to really look at the procedures they have in place for when our dependency on computers cannot be accommodated. read more

This Hospital is all about the $$$ bottom line. The dollar comes before patient care. Medicare and Medicaid should investigate this facilities admission vs observation practices and the adverse effect they have on ones recovery options. Five days in the hospital and never admitted. read more

Well, I guess my first clue should have been when the admitting nurse speaking with another nurse that the hospital can't get any qualified help. Their getting just warm bodies. So I continued with another nurse getting me ready for my biopsy. She put her gloves on dropped items on the floor picked them up with her gloves on and continued to get me ready with intravenous. wth! Fine in the operating room. Woke up in recovery. Nurse ok not overly attentive. Discharged. Now waiting for my results. Call pathology, told to call back. I called Wed girl not sure she's just filling in. Believe me she wasn't willing to do anything but answer the phone. Told me call back Thursday. Kept telling me pathologist wasn't there and hadn't signed off. Call back Thursday and still same BS. it's like they feel they only answer to the Dr. Believe me I wouldn't trust her opinion, I just wanted to pick up a copy of my results. Which I AM INTITLED TO LEGALLY!! I DID PAY FOR IT. I UNDERSTAND THE DR NEEDS TO PUT THE INFO TOGETHER. BUT ITS SO IMPORTANT FOR A PATIENT TO KNOW THEIR REPORTS SO THEY CAN ASK THE PROPER QUESTIONS!! NEEDLESS TO SAY IM STILL WAITING. I WILL NOT GO BACK TO THIS HOSPITAL. EXTREMELY UNPROFESSIONAL. I BET THEYD BE MORE CONSIDERATE IF IT WAS THEIR FAMILY MEMBER, OR IF IT WERE THEM THEYD KNOW. IT WASNT A LITTLE BIOPSY. IT WAS STOMACH AND LIVER. YES, IM A WRECK. YES I WANT THEM TO BE THOUROUGH. BUT YES I WANT THEM HAVE COMPASSION AND DONT TREAT SOMEONE AS THIER CONCERNS OF THEIR HEALTH IS NOT FOR THEM TO KNOW!!!! read more

My 84 year old Mom fell and fractured her pelvis. I called 911. They brought her to RWMA emergency room at 3:30 pm. She stayed in the ER for 24 hours before they moved her into a room. During that time, she complained continuously about pain on her foot and lower back. They did nothing in the ER. Once she was moved into a room, exactly 24 hours later, she continued to complain about the constant and increasing pain. They did nothing. She was in the room for an additional 24 hours before she was discharged and sent to a rehabilitation facility. Upon checking into the rehab facility they immediately discovered 2 bed sores. One on the foot and one on the lower back. These were caused by neglect at Roger Williams Medical Center, in Providence, RI; both in the ER and the room on floor 3. They never even took off her sock on the foot which she continually voiced intense pain about. As soon as she arrived at the rehab facility, they immediately discovered a bed sore on her foot and lower back. Roger Williams Medical should be punished for their negligence. The staff on floor 3, when she was finally moved into a room there, were horrendous. The CNA assigned to her room actually came into the room with another staff member (both from Nigeria) had a 20 minute conversation with each other. Both my Mom and the other patient in the room were never acknowledged. Both patients couldn't believe it. The "nursing assistants" were discussing the female staff member's career path. Finally the hospital woman left and the gentleman turned to my Mom and said, "How are you feeling?", after she had waited 20 minutes to be taken into the bathroom --UNBELIEVABLE! read more

A couple of months ago, I went into the ER with food poisoning. When I got there it took almost an hour for them to even call me in to take my info. Once they had my information it took them a couple of more hours to pulled back into a room. Once in the room, they originally never showed me/ gave me the call light or tell me where a bathroom was...it was coming out both ends kind of food poisoning... I was lucky I didn't end up incontinent that night. The nicest and most compassionate person I met there was a house keeper that kept on covering me with heated blankets when she saw that I was cold while coming in to change the trash. While I was there, my phone died. I continuously asked if there was a phone I could use to contact my boyfriend (who's also my emergency contact) to update him on how I was doing. They kept on evading it and never let me use a phone and never contacted him for me. I was brought in by ambulance so when they discharged me, I asked again to use a phone so I could contact my boyfriend to pick me up. They pointed towards the door and said someone out there can help you. I went in the waiting room and no one was out there. I went to go back to the ER but the door locks behind you. Finally after 20 mins someone showed up in the waiting room, I asked to use the phone so I could leave and she said no. I had to wait for another sick person to come into the waiting room and beg them to let me use their phone to call my boyfriend. Let's not mention when my boyfriend got to the hospital he accidentally went through the main entrance and they gave him the wrong directions to the ER... he ended up outside a room where someone opened up on a table! Talk about a HIPAA violation. So, no, I wouldn't recommend anyone to come here. read more

I follow their specific plan to the letter. My insurance companies demands and plan as well. I have succeeded in meeting my personal goal for the holidays in my weight loss journey of 3 months. This is not a journey that is taken on a whim. It is not an easy way out, but with the guidance, the care and the extensive knowledge that the team at Roger Williams has- it is the best choice to make for me, and possibly for you. I am sitting outside at Roger Williams Medical Center. I was told my brother has about 24 hours to live. That I could come and see him. When I got here I was not allowed in the building. I was told his x wife has power of attorney and she said my brother wants to die. And she has agreed to that. He does not want to die. She won't let me see him because he will tell me that. So in this world, I cannot visit my own brother who will be dead tomorrow. read more

My daughter was a patient in the ER recently at this facility. She received prompt compassionate care. Everyone was friendly and helpful. Pros: registration staff , Triage nurse , IV placed expertly , PA care excellent ,nursing care excellent, prescription called in promptly. They avoided performing unnecessary expensive testing. Parking available close to ER. Cons very small treatment bays to wait in on Gurney. No IV pole available so she couldn't get to bathroom, without being unhooked from the IV, only one bathroom available to use and she had an infectious, contagious condition. ( health hazard for the other patients there). Honestly most of the cons are related to the older physical space we were in. However it's the people and the clinical expertise and decision making that are most important when you're a patient. The staff here put her at ease immediately. read more

I just had a shoulder surgery here. Everyone involved from the pre-op testing to the surgery and even a next day follow up call has been very professional, kind and caring. I'd put my faith in this facility anytime. There wasn't a single thing left unexplained or unanswered. If you're going here for any reason, don't worry, you're in good hands! read more

This is actually the worst hospital I've ever been to in my life i do not even want to give them one star but i do not have a choice, my friend has a substance abuse problem and she called someone and they told her the correct steps would be to go into the emergency room and they could medically clear her and possibly have her stay overnight.. we went the man at the front was rude my friend went and talked to the check in lady and she said they could not even see her simply because there was no beds but regardless she could've been seen it is an EMERGENCY room For a reason.. my friend asked the lady "so basically I'm fucked" and the lady said yes .. ?? DISGUSTING! Do not go in here unless you are wearing a hazmat suit. Many rooms on the 4th floor were contaminated with C-Diff. They put my elderly family member on this floor. What were they thinking?? I noticed a bad smell immediately upon reaching this floor, but having not spent too much time in hospitals, thought that was what they all smelled like. Turns out, it's the stench of C-Diff diarrhea. My family member, who did not leave the room caught C-Diff. How did that happen? Sub-par sterilization. Forget my dog, I would not take a rat to this place. Just in case you don't know, the treatment for C-Diff are three powerful antibiotics that make you feel worse than the infection itself. read more

I would not send someone I care about to this hospital. period. The staff is awful and downright rude. I've never been treated this awful anywhere else. I took my grandmother here after a surgery and she was also treated terribly. To top it off, nurses talk very rudely about staff and patients "behind their back", but be assured that you will overhear. I would never go here again. There are plenty of other hospitals to go to that will be much more helpful and pleasant. read more

EMERGENCY ROOM. WORST EXPERIENCE I have EVER had. Rude and mean triage, Incompetent nurse and nurse assistant. Ignored. 7 1/5 HOURS in room waiting. Finally told no bed available. They knew that when we got there. Elderly Alzheimer's patient had to spend night (and next morning) in Emergency Room. 3rd shift Nurse was wonderful! Asked counselor to call me when bed available and admission process started. NO CALL. Thankfully the patient is now receiving great care.
