If you grew up in NYC, chances are you've been to the Coliseum at least once in your life. And if you haven't, you truly missed out. It's not what it used to be, and now it's officially closed but the memories will live on forever. I used to work at the Hall of Fame, where we sold magazines, CDs, and DVDs. If it was part of the music industry, we had it. Right next door was Julian printing custom T-shirts. Black house studios where music was created. There were sneaker spots, Sammy selling leather coats and clothing, jewelry vendors, perfume and cologne booths, and of course the food court. You couldn't walk through without hearing music, seeing fashion, and feeling culture. From the Jamaican beef patty spot to the hat stores, the Coliseum wasn't just a mall it was a community. I did most of my school shopping here because we were able to negotiate prices. It was a place where people hustled, connected, and created memories. It's especially heartbreaking knowing future kids won't get to experience what we experienced growing up. The Jamaica Coliseum will truly, truly be missed. There will be one last celebration on the Ave on February 21st from 12 PM to 5 PM. If you're reading this, don't miss your final chance to experience Jamaica Ave the way we all remember it. Thank you, Jamaica Coliseum, for everything.

RIP Jamaica Colosseum mall…read more I wrote an article about its closure. Growing up in Brooklyn, most of my mall memories come from Kings Plaza. From what I've seen and reported, that place always had a huge range--budget-friendly spots right next to higher-end stuff, tons of selection, and services that actually felt worth it. I talked to a bunch of vendors there, and they were straight-up neighborly and friendly. You had everything: the food court, fresh jackets, shoes, jewelry, you name it. A real wide variety of things all under one roof. And now it's all gone.

This particular location is not bad and it is in a pretty good location .there is no parking lot and you are quite a few blocks away from the train station on archer ave and the hillside station. But you have buses that stop right in front of the store . As far as the atmosphere this store is always crowded like most marshalls stores. When you see something you want I advise you to get it because when you come back it wont be there .sometimes the shoppers can be a little aggressive at times but things can't get to far out of hand because the 103 percent is literally around the corner ..I don't shop there all the time but when I do the staff seems to be ok .I never seen them acting shady or anything like that . I would go back there again In the future.

The employees at the register seem to be cordial. I can't say I've ever had an employee offer me any assistance but it's been a long time since I started coming here and I honestly don't remember. The lines can get unbelievably long as certain points of the day and year for that matter. So if you can either go early or come really late and you should be fine.

On Sunday Feb 1st 2026 I took my daughter's shopping at the Primark Location in Jamaica Queens NY …read more What started out as a fun day with mom turned into a scary situation. The system in Primark was acting up. Unbeknownst to me I paid for $345 worth of merchandise with my card . The money was removed from my card however I was told I did not pay and that I could not leave with my merchandise. Like any credit card transaction there is a hold placed on the card until the transaction is finalized with the bank . The company wanted me to pay another $345 dollars advising me that they don't have their money so it's not their fault and I should take it up with my bank . I advised them that I paid after speaking to management and that I was not leaving without my merchandise and I left . Upon leaving I was followed down the block by a male who identified himself as a detective . In order to not scare my kids I went back to the store however called the police to help me because I paid for my merchandise. When the police arrived I thought I was going to get help however the store reported that I stole the merchandise and I need to be arrested . While my children were alone with me I asked that my family was given a little grace to get to me as I paid for my items and this is ridiculous. I threatened to sue and advised the cops that if they were taking me in I would like a lawyer . With that being said the store manger then states that I didn't intend on stealing and it's not my fault it's the banks fault . It was resolved with them taking back everything I bought for my girls and still have not received my money back . I used the same card in other stores down the block and in the area without issue . The store treated me as though I was a criminal embarrassed myself and traumatized my children , using intimidation of there male staff for merchandise that was no longer theirs because it was paid for . Fast forward to Tuesday Feb 3rd 2026 the transaction has been finalized as I initially stated it would be leaving myself and my children without the merchandise we shopped for or the money to shop elsewhere. I was banned from the store and criminalized in front of other customers on that day.

Welcome to Shoptober! NYC has no shortage of dollar stores. Whether for cheap goods, no-name food…read moreitems, or a slice of pizza, they fulfill an economic niche. For such an expensive city, these stores cater to the underserved, the frugal and the tight-budgeted. You see lots of mom & pop 99 cent stores, Family Dollars & Dollar Generals all over the map, but Dollar Tree is probably the most prolific. These are the current generation of the old five & dimes like Woolworth's and Lamston's. Almost everything in Dollar Tree is priced at a dollar, though there are pricier items. If the price is not marked, then it defaults to $1. I find that this store is more organized and well managed than others I've shopped and I can always get a spot in the parking lot. The seasonal section is always well stocked whether it's for 4th of July, Halloween, Thanksgiving or Christmas. I like to browse the arts & crafts aisle, picking up random paint brushes, jars and pallettes for my hobbies. I even got a bunch of small cutting mats for a $1 each where you might pay up to $10 or more at Michael's. You'll also find me browsing the hardware, kitchenware and office & party supplies aisles. The toys aisle is always a mess no matter how many people they have fixing it up. Kids, ugh. You might not find big name brand items here, but you can always find something useful for a really low price. $1 spice shakers, anyone? And would you trust a $1 pregnancy test? Look for those hanging on the racks at checkout next to the no-name BIC lighters.
