I went in to Rhythm with little-to-no knowledge of what I needed in a new bike. The gentleman who helped me (I believe his name was Matthew?) was super knowledgable, friendly, and answered all of my questions. He helped me find a sweet new ride, which is hard to come across during these unprecedented times, and testing it in the back lot totally sold me on the type he had recommended. Went above and beyond in showing me how to remove the front tire and help me fit the bike into my tiny car, which I was so grateful for! I've only been here once but the environment was well organized, well stocked, and I didn't feel pressured to purchase anything I didn't need or to rush looking through. The staff was extremely down to earth and I felt comfortable asking simple questions and getting some pretty clear information about what considerations I should have when purchasing my next bike. The fact that they also offer demos before you buy is also a huge plus. I haven't been to a lot of bike shops in Oakland but I felt VERY welcomed here. In some other shops I've felt like it's been disorganized or rushed to get in and out quickly. I felt like I could just browse around and do what I ned to do. Definitely going to consider buying my next bike here and y'all should consider it as well or at least getting some solid advice and buying any replacement items/tools you need here! read more

You find out a lot about a business when you have a complaint. My story: I hadn't ridden for​ a few years and I decided to pull Cannondale mountain bike out and get a full tune up and shock overhaul here. They were totally friendly and it was great until 2 days later when I realized my shock was leaking air because it no longer worked. I reached out to the store and heard back from Chad. He said he was very sorry and that if that's the case it would need to be taken to a shop that was an authorized Cannondale shop b/c they would most likely need to send the headshock to Cannondale for repair. Chad said because it wasn't fixed he'd give me a credit for the amount I paid for all of the work (which was generous) for future work or product. That was enough to guarantee​ my business going forward. I don't expect to need another full shock rebuild for many years and now I know I can trust my Rhythm Bikes to treat me well and make sure I'm taken care of. Thanks y'all! read more

My new Bay area go to bike shop! Great service and experienced staff. Took a nasty fall and brought my road bike in for a safety check and some repairs. Staff gave great advice and assisted me with ordering a new carbon handle bar, cut my steerer tube, safety checked the bike, wrapped my handlebars, and returned the bike to me 4 days earlier than promised. Rhythm Bikes really went the extra mile... I had a seemingly simple job setting up tubeless tires on some new wheels. Apparently these were the most challenging wheels Rhythm had ever encountered and they spent nearly an hour trying to get the tires mounted. They were also short-staffed with a few mechanics on vacation and yet they somehow managed to get my wheels done in less than a day... Very grateful to have these guys in the neighborhood - I will definitely be back. read more

I know simple maintenance on my Cross bike but I ran into a snag with my Ibis Hakkalugi. I purchased a different set of road wheels, the current bike runs stands no tubes which can only be pumped to 45 psi. Hence, changing the wheel set from Cross to Road made sense,but when I change the set, the new disc brakes started to scrape and no adjustment would change it. I brought the Ibis to Chad and he figured out it was a spacer and a too large disc and changed them and the bike runs very well now. read more

I'm new the area and have had a persistent front tire flat issue. After a few frustrating rides and attempted diagnosises I was able unable to find the culprit causing the flat. I waltzed in on a busy Saturday morning shortly after opening. After the owner dealt with a few customers in front of me, he listened to my issue while asking a few asutue questions. He then took the time to scour my front tire and find the issue. A very small half staple embedded into my tire. VERY difficult to find and only someone with patience would have found it. I really appreciated the care and attention to detail to find this issue and help send me on my way. Certainly not a high dollar problem but I'll be going back for all my cycling needs in the future. A Great Bike from Rhythm Bikes What a great new bike. Chad and the others at Rhythm Bikes have done excellent repair work on my very old bike, but I finally decided to get a new ride. Matthew went through the details to help me pick a bike from those that they had on order, a Trek road bike. We upgraded from the model I'd come in to ask about to the next model up, which has disc brakes. He let me know that, because of the shortages and transportation problems, it would take a while to arrive. Chad ordered a special set of short cranks for me as well, to suit my short legs. The bike has arrived, and it is nice. Andrew set it up and put on the cranks, and it is nimble and smooth and well-adjusted. I tweaked the seat adjustment a bit on my first rides and once I had that right it feels great. As Matthew promised the disc brakes work much better in the rain -- I came down from Grizzly Peak in a light rain with no loss of braking, unlike with the rim brakes I'm used to. I've taken a thirty-miler on it plus a few climbs to Grizzly Peak and am looking forward to more and longer and longer rides. Thanks to all at Rhythm Bikes! read more

Nicest guys ever!!! Yesterday I picked up a used bike for my daughter in the neighborhood. The breaks were squeaky and sticky, but being that I am bike agnostic, I called up Rhythm Bikes. I explained the situation to Andrew who said that they were booked out a month on tune-ups but to come up, and if he could take care of what it needed for now in 10-15 minutes he would do it. This morning we went up and Jose came out and saw immediately what was going on with the breaks and made a few tweaks and sold us some chain lube and some new grips, and we're in much better shape! I recently purchase my bicycle from them as my local bike shop did not have it in stock. They were very helpful in allowing me test rides just to confirm I was buying the proper bike. I did not purchase accessories from them as I told them I wanted to purchase local. They were fine and said that the 10% discount for accessories would be honored if my local shop were unable to do so. This place is awesome! My boyfriend and I live around the area and we were struggling with switching out the pedals on the bike. We yelped this location and it was within minutes of our place so we decided to write her bike to this location, we are so glad that we did. We asked if the salesman could help us with replacing our paddles and the salesman without a blink, helped us and on top of this, did not charge us. I took my bike in because it had a flat. They told me my bike tire needed replacing. I agreed to buy a new tire. When I got it home the tire fell off. I didn't want to go back to Rhythm. I expect they would have fixed their mistake at no charge, but I didn't want to risk going to them again. Luckily for me Missing Link in Berkeley has just opened. Missing Link told me the tire was installed improperly something about the bead not going all the way around. They have kept me safe and on a bike for 20 years. I also see that other Rhythm customers have had problems. I gave them two stars instead of one because they were friendly and polite. read more

Everyone here is super knowledgeable and the owner, Chad, made precise adjustments on a bike in stock to fit my kids perfectly just so they could test ride it! Really above and beyond, especially given the store was busy. These guys are a shop that has earned my respect. Great bike rentals, knowledgeable, etc. They have stopped everything to get repairs done on two occasions, so this more than makes up for any time something was not fine tuned and sound at "Tour de France 100%". You see, in truth everyone showing up at bike shops expects work at 100%, to be done quickly, at a low cost, while receiving tech tips and pro-riding advice with a sense of spiritual harmony thrown in, and to be able to nit-pick about everything, and to not thank anyone. I am ranting but bike staff are doing a thankless job while plugging holes in the dam. So to all this, I say these guys are great in my book. I walked in just to check this place out. Someone immediately asked me if they could help. That's fine, I was just browsing. I noted that a lot of bikes for sale were coated in dust. Prices were going anywhere from 2K to 9K on these used carbon framed bikes. One other lower priced metal bike was on display out on it's own not near anything. I just slightly lifted it to check the weight and some sales guy comes out like I was accosting his newborn child. To make a long story short, smart boy tells me that the fancy bikes are all dirty because people test ride them for $100.00. Well, that's keen, that means that if you buy one of those fancy bikes your getting a USED bike for a NEW bike price. So were talking bikes and smart boy says "well the way and type of riding you do, you should get this..." Considering that smart boy did not discuss ANYTHING about what kind of riding I do, or how I do it before he said that statement, is just F-bomb unbelievable! Can you say DISCRIMINATION? Preconceived notions as to what a female customer would want! Yup we're going to stuff you into a pigeonhole! DISRESPECTFUL! What a clown! Don't waste your time with this smarmy lot! Too bad, I was going to have him convert my bike to disc brakes and buy some new bike shoes. Addendum: In your response since you were not there and not hearing the conversation you do not know what was said. When people disrespect ME then they get it in kind. I brought in a bike with a broken rear derailleur shift lever. There wasn't an initial work order written and there was some miscommunication about what needed to be done and the options available, which didn't make me too happy. Ultimately they offered to work things out and explain why they did choose the option they did, replacing both brake-shift combinations, and so I do think they are trying to do the right thing. read more

A few months ago my bike was making a ka chunk/ squeaky sound. I took my bike to three other bike stores. I explained the issue, but I didn't feel like they cared what I had to say. I took my bike in to Rhythm bikes and Chad listened to what I had to say. He rode my bike and from my description, he figured out the issue. Turns out I had some loose spokes on my rear wheel. While everyone else wanted to sell me on upgrades, Chad was honest and solved the issue. I only trust my bike to Rhythm bikes now. read more
