The website even asked for my credit card number which in my opinion is absurd. About an hour and a half later I received a phone call from the salon saying she doesn't have any availability. Robert, yes my name is Sam and Monica is my middle name that I use for Yelp....I can't believe the reply I got from you ......Hannah was my hair stylist and now she is lying ......I came back to get a warmer richer highlight for the fall that had copper tone and brown tone... so she apples a toner instead and overall made my hair jet black.....As she was blow drying my hair I noticed how dark my hair was and she stated " I see some light color" .... Than she continued saying she saw some light color.....she was trying to justify her mistake....she also stated she will give me a clarifying shampoo to wash this dark color out....she said it would be no charge than she got Gwen the owner to speak to me. She was nice at first ,but than was trying to get snippy with me.....Gwen also said she saw some light color which was a complete LIE......yes they wanted to correct my hair and I for surely didn't want Hannah to touch my hair any longer...Gwen stated to come back and that Hannah can fix my hair and that she would be there to assist her....I can't stand being lied too and I've been to your salon many times with no problem and leaving nice tips......now your telling me I can't return to your salon as if I made a seen.... I had went to another salon right after my visit and they told me my hair was jet black......also when Hannah grabbed Gwen to explain the situation that I was not satisfied, Hannah apologized to me and stated yes I can't believe the toner made her hair this dark.....so she admitted to her mistake and now I'm not welcome! I love the place, I've been coming for years. love the service and love Nikki. Amazing work. My only problem is because I had a no show in March I believe, but I don't recall. Then yesterday I canceled due to work but it was within 24 hours. I tried rescheduling today and they said i need to keep my card on file so if I cancel within 24 hours again they will charge me what my base pay usually is, 120.00. I'm in the medical field with call. Also, life happens. I don't feel this is a good policy. After so many years and every 8 weeks, I now have to say good bye. It's not worth it to me. I've been coming to RIAH since I moved out to NWI in Summer 2007. I had my first appointment with Laura in the Dyer location and as my 2nd appointment came due, she had left and I got placed with Joanna. That was almost 3 years ago and I am still with Joanna and RIAH, in their new location in St. John, which is bit closer to my home. I love how my hair looks, feels and styles. All the stylists are friendly and outgoing and the front desk staff goes above and beyond to accommodate you. You are offered a beverage (from a pretty good selection) and they even will help you with your coat or offer you an umbrella if it's raining. The "RIAH Retreat" is the shampoo room where the lights are dim and quiet spa-like music plays as you get your hair shampooed, conditioned and receive a nice scalp, neck and shoulder massage. It's a fabulous part of the service and really makes RIAH stand out from other salons. Their products aren't something you can get just anywhere either. They do carry Paul Mitchell but the also carry Benniefactor and Davines which are only sold to salons and they offer exclusive training to the stylists. I've used both lines and I love them. The products are more expensive that what you can get at Target or Walmart but they last longer and my hair has never been healthier. read more

Nice place if you want to go there for a blowout , they have a great head massage service . For that I would recommend. As for hair color, hair cut not happy at all. First time I went for a hair color and hair cut I was not happy , but I wasn't very disappointed either. The stylist decided that she will do only a roots touch up because she wanted to learn more about color product that I already had. I appreciate that , thinking she know what she is doing . The hair cut was not exactly how I wanted but nothing too bad . I was thinking she doesn't know my hair that much yet. Second time i went there i told her what color i want , which was a balayage, dark blonde with very light highlights. I also told her that I am not happy with the hair cut , being too full on the bottom and this time I would like her to take more from the body, and she can go a little shorter , shoulder lenght. Just for the record my hair was already blond , so I didn't have crazy expectations to go from black to platinum blonde. She starts coloring my hair , the roots and than like 2 more processed so I'm thinking she know . My hair gets washed and I noticed that is kind of dark but I thought because its wet still. She dries it , still looks dark , asking her about the the light highlights that I asked for and could not see anywhere. She is telling me that they will reveal after a wash and if I still want it lighter I should come back . Washed it quite a few times since than, nothing . Now the hair cut , told her what i wanted and showed her some pictures , she starts chopping and it's already shorter that I wanted . I'm thinking as long as it's a good haircut I'm fine with it . She cuts , she fix my hair , again I have long pieces of hair sticking out just like the first time, pointed out to her , she fix it. Anyway whatever I could see at that point. She is done. I don't like to complain and it was looking ok with the blow dry and everything. I go home , start looking in the mirror and the more I looked the more defects I find, the more annoyed I get . I'm checking my hair in the bathroom light, daylight , still the same thing , my hair is almost black with some yellow spots . She did the low lights on my blond hair I guess but it looks spotted . The hair cut a disaster, chopped , one side was visibly longer than the other, again longer pieces of hair sticking out , very full in the bottom.... I called the place the next day and told them . First I asked who are their senior stylists , my stylist was not in that list . Nobody asked what level of stylist I want , I wasn't even aware of such thing . Anyway they apologized and offered me a complimentary fixing by the same stylist. I told them that does not make any sense to me to go to same one to try fixing , risking to ruin it even more. The receptionist told me that it's not possible to be fixed by another stylist due to their policy . I told her in that case it's fine I don't need the complimentary fix with the same stylist instead I would like to book an appointment with a senior stylist that could try to fix and I will pay for it. She put me on hold to ask the owner about it , gets back to me that a senior stylist will fix it complimentary but I will not her a hair wash and dry , just hair cut . Mmmmk , the way she say it was a little rude , it's not like was asking for freebies , I just asked whatever was wrong to be corrected as much as possible and I was willing to pay for it. I went back, the senior stylist fixed as much as she could. It's not great but better than before. Maybe I got the wrong person there , not saying that they don't have great stylists , they might but was not my experience. I would not take another chance there. read more

I have been coming to Riah for three years- I initially was referred by a neighbor who always had the coolest color and style and I thought I would give it a shot. My neighbor recommended Jen, and it was a crazy-good match. I've never had greater hair nor worked with someone who can be both a consummate professional as well as a friendly face. The people who work here always strive to make each visit personal and warm- yet the quality of service rivals the most bougie salon in any city: just minus the attitude. Each cut includes a head/ neck and scalp massage with scented oils and a trip to the serenity room and I always leave feeling like my day is better. The price is commiserate with the excellence of service, minus city prices, and I can not recommend this salon enough, but only if you are a human being who values excellent people and service. read more

I moved to San Diego 10 years ago but come home for Christmas every other year or so. Ever time I'm in the area this salon is a non negotiable stop on the itinerary. Everyone on staff is so friendly and helpful. The stylists take such pride in their work and take their time to explain why they think certain things will work with your skin tone and face shape etc so you come out with something made for you, not a stock photo. The place itself is styled in a very modern way with everything working to make you feel comfortable. The little extras like the dedicated shampoo room with massage is just unbelievable. My event was on a Sunday but since salons aren't open on Sundays, I figured I'd get my hair blown out Sat afternoon and hope for the best. I called as soon as the place opened on Sat and was told that Jen (a level 4 stylist) was avail that afternoon. As soon as we walked in, we were greeted and offered a beverage. Jen was very personable and looked at the picture I showed her and asked me questions to ensure that I would be happy and satisfied. Came here for my sister's wedding with her whole bridal party and they did an amazing job! Everyone was so sweet and I absolutely loved everyone's hair and make-up. They were also so great about getting us drinks and even the mimosas that we brought. Amanda (I think) did my hair and I've never had anyone be able to actually make my thin hair look good styled. Makayla did my airbrush and make-up and I was obsessed. Both stylists were so on point for me. Was definitely a great start to such an amazing day! I had an appt for an eyebrow wax. I called on a Thurs and they were able to get me in that Saturday at pretty much the time I wanted. The girl on the phone was very courteous and accomadating. When I arrived for my appt, the front dest greeted me very promptly, very friendly. The salon is very nice inside, looks trendy/ has a fun vibe. The girl that was going to be doing my eye brows met me on time at the front, showed me all the products in their store, gave me a tour of their salon, offered me a beverage from their long list of options-various coffees, teas, pop..no wine :( I love my eyebrows. First visit was a few years back with a level 4 stylist. I lightened my hair considerably from my previous hairdresser and I was looking for a color touch up between highlights. My friend comes here and her hair looks awesome. So I decided why not. I went to her level 4 hairdresser, and we consulted about what color. Sure, I agreed the color she choose from the swatch book because I thought she knew. Well let's just say I went home crying because all the money and effort I put into lightening my hair went down the toilet! The color she applied was so dark I cried, that's all I could do. Fast forward a few years later. I decided to give this salon one more chance because I do love their head massages! I made an appointment for a single process color and apparently since I am considered a new client again I was forced to have a haircut and/or style with my color. No problem I'll take the style, I just don't cut my hair that often. I made my appointment with a level one stylist because honestly it's just a single process touch up. As my stylist is applying my color she comments about how she's trying to get my grays really covered and she's got some "great stuff" to get color off of my ears. I get it-sometimes it happens. So I had to use the restroom as I'm waiting for my color to process, I take a look into the the mirror and said, " What the?!?!?!" I had color everywhere! And let me explain, it's not a blond or light brown, it's jet black. My ears were filled, my cheek, my forehead! I am wearing my diamond earrings and had I known this or was forewarned I would have taken them off, I have color in my earrings! At this point I'm hoping that "great stuff" is as great as she thinks it is! Shampoo time. My hairdresser was with another client so someone else was shampooing me. I ask this person if they shampoo twice because I have jet black and it takes many shampoos and lots of scrubbing to get it out. She replies no and I kindly asked if she would shampoo twice, she replied sure. Yes it was very relaxing and wonderful, but there was NO scrubbing, so at this point my thinking about how much color I have left in my hair! Now I'm back to my original hairdresser, she removes the towel off my head and proceeds to fine comb my hair! Wait, did I mention I have a head of thick, naturally curly hair??? You DO NOT fine tooth comb naturally curly hair unless your cutting it , which I wasn't, and even after the cut you should use a wide tooth comb. She asks if I want it straight and I replied just curly is fine. So she starts defusing it and then 5 minutes later stops. Now I get it, thick curly hair takes forever to dry but I am paying for this service so don't just stop especially when I have damp hair and a flat frizz ball sitting on top off my head!! So I'm thinking she cannot possibly be done??!?! I literally have flat hair on top and it looks like she took a brush to my curly hair and brushed it out!! I'm hoping at this point she has some pride in her work to say, "hey maybe I should take the curling iron and put a few curls and fix the top." Nope! nothing! Instead she does ask if I want hairspray!!! You mean you want to plaster this flat, frizzy thing you have going on up there??? No thanks, I'll pass!!! 1) I paid over 100.00 for this appointment without tip! 2) I understand I choose a level one hairdresser, but that doesn't mean I should get color all over me, or an awful style! 72.00 is not cheap for a single process color! 3) Have some pride in your work for god sakes! 4) I will not ever be returning to this salon again!!! read more

Went here for the first time for a color & cut--couldn't be happier. Melissa did a fantastic job! The entire staff was courteous & professional. The price was in line with what you pay at any of the better salons in the area. They give 1st time clients a tour of the entire salon and offer a nice selection of complimentary beverages to their customers. You also get a printed receipt, so you can see exactly what you paid for each service. I was very happy with the entire experience; will definitely be going back. read more

I have been going to Riah for about a year now and I would not go anywhere else. I have used there online booking as well as called for appointments. Both work well though prefer to talk with the friendly staff. From the time I walk thru the door to the time I walk out I feel pampered and relaxed. Tyler does a fantastic job. I have been going to Riah since they opened in Dyer, IN. The salon is top notch professional. From the stylists right down to the front desk personnel. Their "shampoo retreat" is a wonderful experience. The 10-15 minute scalp massage with essential oil is heavenly! I have only gone to Melissa so I can't comment on any other stylists. Melissa stays current with new styles but never tries to push you out of your comfort zone regarding what you want. She is always personable but professional. While going through a tough time medically she even called my home to check on me, letting me know that if I needed her to come to my home to perform a haircut she would do that for me. I had been going to Riah for about 2 years and decided to change my hair to a different color, a departure from the usual and more back to my original color, a dirty blonde to an auburn. After the Riah stylist had to consult with another stylist on the premises, they discussed some numbers without showing me swatches of potential colors THEY were thinking. Mistake number one because if I would have seen what they speaking of, I could have said that's not what I had in mind or even close to the example I brought in. It was not what I had anticipated as an end result and made another appointment to come back and have it fixed the next day. Actually, I really wanted the hair totally redone, but was advised they could not strip the hair and start from scratch without doing major damage such as my hair possibly breaking or falling out. Once again the next day my regular Riah stylist consulted with the same person and after a few nasty looks and snide comments which were made to another customer, she came back and put an all over color over the highlights/low lights and the end result was even worse than the day before. Disappointed and very upset I contacted another salon in the area on Saturday morning who advised me to come in at that moment for a consult. The owner of the new salon took a look at my hair and said she could absolutely "fix it without doing any damage". They stripped my hair of Riah's two day color failures and then recolored the hair to a beautiful natural-looking auburn with highlights... and without ANY damage! How can one professional salon say they cannot fix it when another salon had absolutely no problem? And by the way,,,, I was even told by the new salon that I received a bad, uneven cut from Riah and was shown the issues. Needless to say I am very happy with the new salon and partake in all of their full spa services as a regular customer, and receive countless wonderful comments about how great my hair looks when I go out in public. I will never go back to Riah nor recommend them. I had to "pay twice" at Riah for hair color I was not satisfied with and uneven cut, and then had to pay again at the new salon to fix their mistake. So I sent a letter to Riah, but received no refund or apology in return. Riah claims their stylists go for regular training, but if they did I don't understand why a Riah stylist who had been there a long time had to keep consulting with another stylist who had a bad bleach blonde dye job herself... and then lie to me and tell me they could not fix their mistake. Not only did they lose me as a customer, but 4 other people I know all have transferred over to the new salon. read more

Truthfully it's what I expected after the quality of service I received. 1) I wasn't told up front from anyone in the shop about fixing in one week and didnt find out until after looking at my hair in the car. 2) understand "human," but a senior stylist should know her job, and pull product through. She certainly charged and got paid for it. 3) did not insist on fixing until after it was completely done, before she told me. 4) I canceled two times, not several times. Do you have hours to sit because of someone else's mistake? Not when you have to work to pay your prices. I'm sure. 5) as I said regarding haircut. I thought it was something I could work with so I didn't mention it, although I think she could see the dismay on my face as I tried to finger through my hair. 6) the cut was much worse than I thought. Follow up to my last review of Riah Salon. I had two cuts from two different stylist and was far from pleased. Riah read my review and wanted to make the situation right, which I greatly appreciated. They invited me back to see another more experienced stylist Nikki who was amazing! She actually listened and fixed what she could. I actually really like my cut now. I am giving Riah one more shot, before leaving the salon on Friday, I scheduled my next appointment with Nikki. I think I may have found my next regular stylist. As I said in my previous review I really do like Riah as a whole and really wanted it to be my salon. We did have a rocky start but I think we are now on solid ground. I appreciate the fact they wanted to make it right and wanted me to be happy, they have shown outstanding customer service and that means a lot to me. For this reason I will go back. I have faith in my budding relationship with Nikki and hope to be going to see her for many years to come.Your review helps others learn about great local businesses. I am a fairly new client at Riah, since my previous hair guru moved out of state. My first appointment was with a new stylist who did a great job on my cut and color. When went for my second appointment, she had left the salon and I was assigned a new stylist - Even better! The services are not cheap, but they are worth the price. the scalp, neck and should massage that is included in the "quiet shampoo room" is amazing. I went here yesterday because i thought it sounded like a great place with a lot of experience. Nice atmosphere but inexperienced stylist butchered my hair. I came in with specific pictures of exactly what I wanted...front, back, and side view. Explained that a pixie is the style I usually wore my hair. I had grown it out for two years and hated it and wanted my short easy to style hair back. The girl spent several minutes talking me out of the pixie and into a graduated bob. I finally agreed because her persistence in guiding me away from a short cut made me feel she lacked the confidence to pull it off. She didn't even do a graduated bob. All in all I walked out feeling manipulated and swindled. I came in for a low maintenance pixie and got a mushroom cut (the kind you got at Fantastic Sams when you were 10) that cost me $80 in product to make look half decent and an hour to style. Not to mention my appointment took an hour and a half. Not at all satisfied and completely defeated the purpose of my getting it cut. Maybe I just had the bad luck of getting a newer stylist but now I will have to spend more money now to have this fixed. I would never return nor recommend this salon. I am not the type to raise a stink and didn't want to embarrass the stylist by making a scene and asking for someone else to fix my hair, I also didn't have the time, but I will never go back. read more
