I drove 45 from IL (Because our Gov Fred Flinstone and Mayor Beetlejuice were too busy enjoying their new found power of holding us hostage) I could no longer stand the feeling of my head without having a haircut since February. I have never had service and/or product recommendations like this ever!!! My stylist ask me my concerns and works with me with honesty about my hair!! She remembers your hair styling treatments every time! The hours of the shop are very much to the needs of the customer, as it should be!! The prices are definitely good value for quality service! I came here for a sprial perm because I lost most of my curl since having children. I will preface this by saying I have been to other higher end salons for a perm on longer hair and it took way less time and cost less money. With that being said, getting out of the house to get my hair done is my time to relax. Literally the entire five hours I was there my stylist, Michelle, talked about her horrible live in friend/boyfriend. I think I spoke maybe 10 words the whole time. Fine. Whatever. I could have probably looked past that even though I found it highly inappropriate. I called ahead of time to ask the price and gave them my hair length(about 2 inches past my shoulders). The receptionist even put me on hold to go ask the owner for sure. I was quoted $110 for a long perm. Fine. That was in line with what I have paid in the past. After 5 hours of listening to torture and five hours in general when I have never had a spiral perm take longer than 3.5 tops, I was told $160. I also had a new customer coupon that she said I couldn't use because I did a favor 7 years ago for a friend of a friend and agreed to be her hair model at the other location. I had never been a paying customer to the salon and the receptionist said I could use the coupon when I was ready to pay. She even had me fill out a new customer form. Why have the coupons if you aren't actually going to accept them? I would have had no issues paying a higher price had I been told that price from the start. When I mentioned what I was quoted, she made an excuse saying the girl up front doesn't normally work that job and is the massage therapist so she doesn't really know. Well that isn't my problem or fault. I am pretty sure the owner of the salon did my hair too. I get Covid affected businesses, but being deceptive with pricing is not a way to retain customers. I am not sure yet how I feel about my hair either. I am giving it 2 days before I make a decision, but as she was taking the rods out, she also ripped out some of my hair. I just had my hair trimmed 4 weeks prior and she still took an additional inch or more off claiming the perm was the reason(why?). I don't recommend Michelle. I was recommended to this place and the first time there I left with a great impression of the timeliness and service though I was disappointed with the color. No problem, Mackenzie assured me she'd redo if I still felt the same after a few days and assured me she was really pleased with the end result. I walk into my house shortly after and my 6 year old asks why I have orange hair!!! Mackenzie fixed my hair so I thought all was good. I returned 6 weeks later to get my roots done, same color, and she charged me $84! Gold Coast prices! Just for doing my roots, no hair cut or anything else. Haven't been to the salon in over 2 yrs.. I've been coloring and cutting my own hair. But after some major damage from a coloring mistake. Of course I needed to see a professional for a proper cut. I got the opportunity to be with a different stylist. Cristina is awesome!! She never made me feel judged, embarrassed or ashamed for my hack job I did on my hair. We even got a good laugh about it, as I wasn't afraid to tell her what I did to my hair. It was really nice to be back at the salon. Cristina cut off enough of the damage I created while leaving me with enough hair (without going major pixie) for my choice of style. I look forward to Future appointments with her. I went here with my bridesmaids and flower girl for updo's for my wedding. The staff was super friendly. The space though was old, cluttered, and not so clean. Our hair turned out ok. I thought it was weird that we were charged the same amount for all the styles considering the adults had long thick hair and the 5 year old flower girl had a chin length bob. My maid of honor was the one who booked the appointment and said she was told for a child it would be around $20-25 dollars. When it came time to pay they said that must've been a mistake because 'anytime they touch a curling iron to someone's hair it's the same price'. I thought that was crazy considering they spent very little time on her, less than half the time it took to do the other styles. I wouldn't recommend getting make up done here. I had to go pick up lip gloss from target when I left because the only color for lips they had to offer was fuchsia pink. All in all, it wasn't terrible but it wasn't spectacular either. I felt I paid a lot for what I got. The staff was very nice but the price just didn't seem in line with the skill level and product. I've gone to more upscale salons that had very comperable pricing and felt I got a more professional service. read more

If you have a car and can get there from Chicago, give it a try. Their rates are INCREDIBLY reasonable ($24.50-27.50 for a basic women's cut), the staff is friendly and wonderful, and the salon is great. The layout is really wonderful, especially if you don't like to be in the middle of a super-active/busy place - each stylist has their own semi-private booth with sink, dryer, etc., so there's no having to get up and down and it's a little more quiet and relaxing. They got me in with almost no notices. My cut with Jenn was FABULOUS - just what I wanted and she was great about working with me through each step to be sure I was happy and showing me exactly what she was doing as she styled my hair. She also gave me great advice about highlights if I'd like to try it in the future. And she was very understanding about my physical disabilities and work-arounds for styling. Plus, all new clients get a huge stack of coupons for future use in the salon or spa (haven't tried the spa yet, but hope to soon). Really, I'm so happy. No pretentiousness, no parking problems, no outrageous prices, and professional service. It takes about 30 minutes to get there from the south side of Chicago on 90/94 outside of rush hours and it's very easy to find. There is no reason not to give it a shot if you can get there. read more

My bestest friend in the world wanted to get highlights for a trip so I went to good old Yelp to help a sista out since my experience with coloring hair involved a pack of cherry Kool-aid in the 8th grade. Reviews for Kut Above were good. I checked out their website and after calling with questions about scheduling and pricing (and everyone I spoke to being friendly and patient)they coordinated our appointment time so that we were able to get our pedis and hair done simultaneously. The spa and hair salon are located in two different store fronts but in the same strip mall a few stores apart. Both were super clean and had a nice aesthetic: interesting prints and cool colors. It's a pet peeve of mine when I make an appointment and I'm still waiting way past scheduled time but KA was prompt and saw us right on time. The signature pedicure was a special of the month so we got that. Diane was really great. My bestie and I don't get to hang out a lot so we were those two annoying chicks who DON'T SHUT THE * UP! at the salon and Diane was super cool about it. She joined in and added to the conversation and she felt like a new friend by the end. She worked on us simultaneously and we really felt pampered and cared for. The signature massage did not include that little leg massage you get at other places and French pedis are not lined with a brush so that crisp line thing isn't happening. My girl said that she'd for sure return but not for the French. They had a great selection of cool (spelled KEWL) polish colors. When we were finished we walked over to the salon--it was raining and my feet were slick in my sandals but it wasn't a big deal however I could see it being a pain in the winter or if I took my mom who is older. Again, everyone was very friendly and accommodating. And again, my friend and I were obnoxious and chatted across booths but we were the only customers there and one of the stylist's even pulled a chair up so we could sit together while waiting for my color to set. I went with only the vague idea of "must color new gray enemies" and my stylist was very patient in helping me figure out what color I wanted to go with and then explained the process. We hit a hiccup due to my super dark, natural hair but she agreed to stay late to tackle the problem by lightning and highlighting even though this was already very late in the evening. The end result was better than what I had anticipated. Weirdly enough, my friend also had the same problem with her highlights. Both stylists were accommodating and stayed until almost 11 PM to ensure we wouldn't be wearing hats for a week. My friend's high and lowlights looked great; she insisted she looked like Jennifer Love Hewitt (she's obsessed with the Ghost Whisper so this self-observation was a GOOD thing). I don't know much about hair, but I'm an expert on my friend and I could tell she was super happy and super ready for her trip!! Received a gift certificate for a mini-facial from my daughter for Christmas. Diane Zubrick was my esthetician (yes, I looked on her business card to figure out how to spell that ;) ) My skin is as smooth as a baby's butt, but more importantly my pores look smaller. She was very pleasant and was gentle with my sensitive skin. I will definitely go again soon and request her. I didn't even realize there was a salon at that location. As first time visitor, I scheduled a Swedish massage. My massage was wonderful. Massage Therapist made sure I was comfortable with her hand pressure. She was warm and friendly when I asked questions, but she did not initiate needless conversation. I felt completely at home. I'm always cold, so my message therapist turned on the bed warmer. Before I left the salon, the therapist demonstrated then had me practice stretches that would loosen my "tight" shoulder area. Will return within a month. read more

Please note half of these reviews are from people out of state. Really? I think not. I am a real person, a local person, who has actually gone to this salon. Twice. Also, this is the first review I have ever placed on Yelp as I am not one to complain. At all. My first experience was ok. Nice girl dyed by hair. Came out too dark for my liking but I knew it would fade so I wasn't too worried. I smiled and tipped her well. Price was very reasonable. I went back for my second trip to get hair again. I am a single mom who doesn't get much me time and I don't devote much money to myself so going to the salon is a real treat. I found this fabulous picture on Pinterest and brought it in. My appt was at 9am on a Saturday. I showed the girl the pic. She seemed confident she could pull it off. ( Now, let me say this. I am not one of those people who thinks its going to come out exactly like the picture. I know that previous hair color and natural tones can affect it, I just wanted something close). We picked out a base color and a highlight color(s). One of the HIGHLIGHT colors I chose was a red and I told her I wanted a COUPLE Strands of that because it would be really fun for fall. She started placing the highlights in. I asked her, when will you place the red ones in, she said something about after the dye. Who am I to question? I don't know if she used the wrong processor or something but it took a little over 2 hours from start to finish just for the highlights......Next she placed the dye. That was another hour. It was hard to tell what color my hair was turning as it was wet and the dye was processing. After she washed the dye out, I could immediately tell there was a problem. Why did my whole hair look red?? Next came the cut. At this point, I knew she had placed the red highlight dye into the whole hair color. Which is NOT what I wanted. I told her how much I hated my red hair growing up..... after the cut came the blowdry and style. At this point I was completely deflated. I hated my hair, I didn't even see the full result but I knew this wasn't anything like what I wanted. When she was done I tried not to burst into tears. it was horrible. I hated the color, and worse yet, you couldn't even see any of the highlights that took 2 hours to place....I told her I didn't like it was upset. She told me to wear it for a couple days and call back on Tuesday when they were open again. I paid the $83 and tipped her $20. it was now 1pm. I had been there 4 hours and hated it. I wore it for a couple days. still hated it. Tried to call once and left a message as she was with a client. I was defeated. I knew I couldn't afford the money to get it fixed nor the time to sit there for another 4 hours. Today is almost 3 weeks since I Got it done. I still hate it. A lot. I tried to call to speak to a manager about advice on when she thought I might be able to dye it again. I don't want my hair to fall out. I was not calling to get a discount, refund, or to go back. I just want advice. The receptionist basically kept laughing at me saying "its been 3 weeks why are you calling now?" She took my name and number and said she would give it to the manager. I don't expect to hear back. I wouldn't recommend this salon. The younger stylist do not have enough color experience and seem to be more interested in socializing amongst each other than focusing on color. The staff doesn't seem to care about complaints but more about judging you. Overall, extremely dissatisfied with the service. Pricing wasn't bad. But you don't get what you pay for. read more
