The only reason I gave it 1 star was because some of the staff was excellent. Yes Dr Liu is very…read moreeducated and good at what he does but I just wish the had a doctorate program that taught good bed side manner and compassion. He was easily bothered by questions and it almost felt like we were dealing with an Ai robot. He was very cold almost to the point of being rude. My wife received an injection in her eye. He didn't prepare her what to expect when receiving the injection. That's why when he injected directly into her eye she jerked. He not only got upset with her for jerking, he asked the most ridiculous question. He asked "What's wrong " she explained that he hurt her. My wife said afterward that if he had prepared her for what to expect then she wouldn't have jerked the way she did. You can have all the education in the world but it still can't teach you to be compassionate. Compassion really comes from the heart. You can also tell by the way he speaks to his nurses. Hopefully he realizes soon that being a doctor doesn't make you better than everyone else it just provides you the opportunity to make people's lives better

I first came here on August 12 after being referred to them by Dr. Christina Bui of Eye Associates…read moreof South Texas in New Braunfels. There is a review posted for them as well. Dr. Bui said that if I could make it to the E Sonterra location, they would see me. My brother-in-law drove me from New Braunfels to San Antonio, and when we arrived we were told that I could not be seen because the doctor had to catch flight. They told me I should come back the next day at a different location which was farther away (Huebner). So we came back the next day and I saw Dr. Mein. After waiting for at least 20 minutes, I was finally called back and I talked with a tech about my retinal detachment. And then they took me to a different room and said the doctor would be with me shortly. I finally was called by another tech maybe 30 minutes later, and then they said the doctor would be with me shortly. Forty-five minutes later, after sitting alone in a room by myself, the doctor came in and stood over me--literally hovered over me and asked me what the problem was. It was a little intimidating, but he probably figured it was easier to talk to me than try to look at my chart and figure out what the issue was. He did some more exams, and then sent me for some imaging. We discussed the retinal detachment and he said I would need surgery to repair it. I asked him if I could get in that day which was a Friday, and he said no, because the issue was they were having trouble finding anesthesiologists. Evidently this is a problem, because a lot of companies that employ anesthesiologists want them to work in hospitals and not in surgery centers. So I had already been experiencing this retinal detachment for two weeks due to a misdiagnosis at the other office in New Braunfels, so having to wait over a weekend was a little frightening. I kept wondering if it would detach completely and if I would go blind. They scheduled an appointment for me for surgery for Monday, and I saw Dr. Holy. I will post a separate review for Dr. Holy and the surgical center. All in all, I was grateful for the service that I received from this office. Their office manager did apologize to me for the miscommunication from the day before.

I was referred to this practice after a regular eye exam with an optometrist. The staff is…read morepleasant, but the long waiting time is disrespectful of the patient's time. Over the years, the waiting has only gotten worse. Don't bother showing up on time for your appointment. They're ALWAYS LATE. I've been going to this office for a few years. At my most recent visit, I waited nearly an hour. I was literally getting up to walk out when they finally came out to the lobby to call me in for my appointment. Once you make your way past the waiting area, it's more waiting as you're escorted between rooms for various test. Clearly, they are scheduling appointments so that they overlap. This technique ensures that the doctor remains busy all the time, while you wait and wait and wait. The communication between the doctor and patient is minimal. You can spend an hour or more shuffling between one eye test to the next, but the results are NEVER shared with you. If you ask for specific results, such as eye pressure readings, they will be provided. If you don't ask, nothing is shared with you. What about all the other tests that you just had? What were they for? How did the results compare to previous results? Have things changed? In my opinion, they're "too busy." They've opened a 2nd location - both are a far from each other. That means each location has half the available appointment times, as the doctor splits his time between venues. The website boasts of a portal for you to review the results of the exam. Information is never posted to the portal. Never. The waiting area is sterile with only standard office chairs. If they expect patients to wait for their appointment for up to an hour... or longer, they need to set up areas where patients can get some work done. Install high tables with USB ports and lots of outlets.
