Several weeks ago, I stopped by Ricci's to schedule an appointment. I had previously gone to Bre-Elle in Wallingford, which is amazing, but I have since moved. I stopped at Riccis's on a weekend, the gentleman at the front desk was very knowledgeable and and spent a good amount of time helping me book my appointment, I specifically asked for someone that was good with blondes and adding some funky color, like purple. He said that Taylor would be good for me. Needless to say, I was so excited to get my hair done, as it had been a long time. I arrived on time for my appointment. When my stylist came to greet me, I could immediately tell that she did not have good energy. As someone who had never been there, or having been a new customer to the stylist, Taylor, I was expecting her to greet me with a modicum of excitement, even a smile. She did not. I followed her back to her chair and sat down. As I was explaining, mind you, the EXACT SAME THING, that I had discussed with the scheduler, she looked right at me and said, "if we do that, the color will bleed everywhere". I have being going to a salon for MANY years and have had purple color in my hair for at least 8 years, it has never bled everywhere. Not once. I thought, not a deal breaker, I moved on to the blonde color, she then told me that she didn't know if she would have time to do the entire head. I was a little taken a back because this appointment was scheduled based on the time it would take to do the ENTIRE head and put color in, because why was I there if she could not do anything I asked?. I wasn't rude, I maintained my composure and tone, I simply said, "Clearly you don't want to do my hair and there was a breakdown in communication somewhere from making the appointment to showing up, so I will be leaving". Taylor did not say one word, not an apology, not anything to fix this wrong, that she caused. This was the most UNPROFESSIONAL hair stylist that I have ever been to. She did not apologize; she did NOTHING to make me comfortable and quite frankly, she was INCREDIBLY rude. I am sure the owner was notified, if not, that is shameful, but someone should have reached out to me to attempt to right this wrong, or, at the VERY LEAST, apologize. Taylor is the most unprofessional person that I have ever met and she should NOT be working with the public if that is the way she treats her customers. Shame on Ricci's for employing her. read more

Safije my hairdresser hands down is the best! My color with dimension gave my hair a new look. Especially becuase I have curly hair she gives me the best tips on what to use! Very professional and helpful. Some of the staff wasn't as friendly. Parking is a little jammed as the salon is connected to their school and barbershop. Yikes My experience at Riccis salon was absolutely horrific. I have been getting my hair done for over a decade and never have I ever had such a miserable experience - in fact I've never even written a yelp review at all that's how bad this was I needed to share For backstory- I had highlighted my hair blonde for several years and 5 years ago decided to go back to my natural brunette. It was quite the transition and took a lot of patience and magic by my previous hair dresser. I finally achieved the perfect natural brunette and had a few breezy highlights mixed in for my wedding which was in September . I went to Riccis salon for the first time as I just moved here- and couldn't make the commute 2 hours to my previous hair dresser. I made an apt for a hair cut and a clear glaze to make my hair shiny- bc why not! I had done my research tirelessly looking thru their Instagram for a stylist I liked. When I called I spoke to the front desk person Scooter - who I explained what I wanted . I mentioned the stylist I liked and he said "you have a good eye those are our master stylists .. but if you aren't getting highlights or color and you're just getting a cut and clear glaze you don't need a master stylist" it did make sense, I really just wanted a trim, so I made the appointment with who he recommended . Gloria I showed up for my apt excited. Went to the sink for the glaze after explaining to Gloria how much I LOVED my current hair but just wanted a glaze to shine it up and tone down the brass that developed as time had passed. While sitting in the sink I saw my hair.. black. Almost purple it was so black. I PANICKED and asked why it looked like it had been dyed.. Gloria proceeded to tell me it was "just wet" knowing I clearly knew what my own hair looked like wet. She started to blow dry it and in fact it was black. I started to choke up and Gloria disappeared. Kelly the master stylist shows up and immediately starts to apologize and doesn't know how this mistake happened but told me the color could be removed with a stripping agent Mind you- my appointment for a simple hair cut was 2 pm. Fast forward it's 6 pm and my hair is now orange from the stripping agent. Kelly tells me the salon is closing but she wil let the owner Dan know what happened so I can come back tomorrow to fix it. I came back the next day and Dan apologized and said he stands behind the integrity of the salon and would fix my hair until it was right. He also said he would pay for my shirt (in the 4 hours of sitting in the sink the black dye got all over it) With all the damage that had been done with whatever Gloria had put on my hair and then the stripping agent my hair was dried and split. I told Dan I didn't want to dye it or add anything else horrific to my hair and would ride it out if in fact the stuff they put on my hair would wash out. He assured me it would and gave me a complimentary conditioner treatment and told me to come back in a few weeks and we w would make a plan. After Two weeks of trying to avoid looking at my hair- I went back to Dan to fix it. He applied .... 4 rounds of toner to ??? Attempt to cover the red. And we ended up dark brown with red. I left the salon again in tears. My hair was ruined . The master stylist- the salon owner couldn't even fix his stylists botch job . I went home in tears . Sent a picture to my old stylist and she was appalled they even let me leave the salon . Dan said I had to wait a few more weeks for the color to fade and I would come back My appointment was scheduled for tomorrow for conditioning and to make plan for ??highlights or unsure I had very little faith at this point . I get a call this evening from Dan that "he could not fix my hair" and to go elsewhere. Dan - the owner of this establishment is the epitome of what you want to avoid when picking a salon. I've had long hair my whole life and I am extremely particular about haircuts, and I consistently get GREAT cuts that grow out beautifully. I've tried other stylists here and there and always regret it! My hair looks great when I walk out, great when I style it myself and great months later. I have referred friends and family for years and they have loved the results. Charlie listens and also makes recommendations based on my hair type, facial features and knows that I don't like to spend a lot of time styling my hair and my hair looks good whether I let it dry naturally or when I style it! read more

Ricci's is the only salon I will go to, solely because of Leanne. She does gorgeous hairstyles for events - I have had her do my last three prom styles, which turned out beautifully, and I recommend her to everyone I meet. She also cuts my hair and does a great job every time. She is the nicest hairstylist I've ever met and I will always come back to her! The atmosphere in Ricci's is great - everyone is super kind and very accommodating. The staff is kind and obviously very talented! You always leave with a little freebie hair-care trial package when you get your hair cut, and it's great quality for my hair. If you're considering changing stylists, definitely come to Ricci's and ask for Leanne. I have relatively straight hair, but it's quite thick, and she does a great job of managing it and making it look beautiful for me! The worst hair experience I have ever had. Went in for balyage (carmel color) and layers (long hair). I had pictures for each, it didn't matter. The 9am appointment wasn't over until I finally stopped her and said it's fine (230pm). The color wasn't what I wanted and at every point I was told it is going to change when the toner is added... it never got better, then I was told it will change as I wash it. I have platinum highlights right now, not carmel... to which I was told came out more honey than carmel. It's not honey either. On top of that, the color wasn't painted in a flattering way. It looks like a bunch of skinny highlights painted in the traditional foil way, not balyage techniques to give more of a sunkissed look. Even the one lighter piece around the face was removed when she did the toner‍. So, the color isn't right and the placement of the color looks horrible. Now, the cut... I asked for a heavy long bang... the bangs I got are a few short pieces in the center of my forehead. I had her cut more layers after it was dry, helped a bit but never got what I was asking for and she kept trying to straighten my hair more, as if it improved the layers... which I would say even her flat iron technique needs work. The whole experience to reclining my head in the sink for a rinse wasn't even comfortable... it was all bad. Yes, I paid, yes I left a tip, no I would never return or recommend Murphy. She tried and was friendly, offered coffee or tea, but what I wanted was to leave with hair looking better than when I arrived. I also said, cut the split ends, I am not worried about length bc my hair grows fast (thankfully/hopefully) but I still have some. She offered for me to return next wk and fix the color, but I was there for over 5 hours. I think she knows a couple of things and that may be the extent of her ability with hair, which is fine just don't pretend to be competent in the other areas. Also, I told her I prefer the v paint technique for balyage... she still painted straight across and told me the teasing will give the same effect... it doesn't. I don't know what's the worst part of all this, the color, the color placement, the cut, the waste of my Sunday, the plans I had to put off to allow the appt to go so long or the fact that I paid for it I hope this review helps someone from repeating my experience read more

Customer service during the visit was great, for both me and my daughter. But the color I got, 6 days ago, has already gone very brassy and I can see the gray coming through all over my head. I used a senior stylist so I didn't expect issues. I've never had this happen, from color out of a box to expensive salons, so I'm not sure what they did. It took 2 hours and I'm definitely disappointed that I wasted so much time (and money). read more

I only went there once before my trip to FL. I love this place, Nikki did my hairdo. Color, highlights and all, The results were great. I am going back for more. If you do decide to go there, they also have an academy on the lower level. Great prices, but I wanted the best so I went to the salon. Love it love it love it. The staff is extra friendly too. P.S. I went to a salon in the brookside shopping mall, ugh my God, they ruined my hair, I couldn't curl it, style it, comb it any fashionable way, no matter what I did it looked awful. I was near tears. I stopped by my gas station and a girl who always chats with me there said you should go see Nikki at Riccis. I was new in CT and had not found my favorite place for hair yet, so I said OK I will try, at this point no one can do a worse job than the other girl did. Nikki saved me and I looked like a human Woman again, lol. I have been a client since Nov 2007. My girl is Nikki for as long as I will need a hairstylist. lately I had no luck getting her because she was pregnant, (yayyy. So happy for you Darling!) so... I was terrified, I was petrified, but ...I had to try other girls, they are nice, hair was nice, but I love Nikki and I hope she will be back soon :( The service and the staff both are always wonderful. They always recognize me, even over the phone, (if not my voice then always my name) lol. I always feel like a Valued Client when I go there. No matter what you want done Nikki does it Purrrrfect. I arrived at Ricci's for a 90 minute appointment and was told my stylist was not longer employed. You have me on her schedule, and yet I get no heads up, no apology, no nothing. The professional thing to do would have been if Ricci's called me in advance to let me know, so I don't waste my day. When I arrived, they offered to make me an appointment for another day, with another stylist. Really? I already took a day off for this. You treat me like this and expect me to come back?? NO WAY! I am so disappointed with this salon and their customer service. Was going to try to blend my grays. The stylist was lighting my hair which made it very course. They suggested to try a special conditioning treatment which I did and thus didn't help. Then it was suggested I try a Brazilian Blowout. It looked great until I washed it. Went back and said I wasn't happy. They took pictures and said they show the stylist. 2 weeks go by and no one reaches out to me. Called back and get for the owner. I was told he was away and they would give him my message. It's now 2 months and no one has reached out to me. Taylor has been my stylist for about three years now - if she ever retires I will be devastated! She always gives a thorough consultation, takes a real interest in the differences & structure of her clients' hair, and pays such close attention to details. She is right on top of the process and honest in her assessment of what will work and what the hair can handle. I have a LOT of hair and my color/bayalage work can take a very long time, as it is meticulously hand "painted" on - but it always comes stunning and grows in looking beautiful as well. Over charge for nothing special. Just a trim cost $75 and have also spent nearly $1000 on a balayage that I had to keep coming back for because my hair was turning yellow! That means the color is cheap the . Cause I've had it done before else-wear never happened like this. This salons staff has bad hospitality also doesn't make you feel comfy while getting your hair done. I just stopped going after going for two years.. try the mansion (beauty shop salon) in Seymour or the beauty bar for good color and good/decent hair prices. With way better job! read more

Greta has some serious talent, and she really strives to make her clients as happy as possible. There was one time where I had second thoughts about my new style a few days after it was done... I was probably just being too picky honestly!... but Greta was beyond kind and warm when I got in touch with her. honestly, i booked an appointment late in the day because i have a young child and didnt have childcare till my family was out of work. i asked for a baylage in an ash color and a cut with layers. the stylist told me that no one does those anymore and she was gonna do a tease. i agreed as long as it looked somewhat like the photos. she over processed my virgin hair because she chose the wrong formula of lifter and bleach. so now my hair is stiff and hard when it never was. the whole entire service was so rushed. the cut is what really got me though, like at least shape my hair nicely.... no. i wanted layers and curtain bangs and homegirl really butchered my hair. i can safely say im never going there again. i would like to believe that she could do hair but rushed my whole service because i booked later in the day. if it is an inconvenience for me to book a service for her then i simply should not have been able to select that appointment time. BEWARE! This place used the ol bait and switch tactic. I went there for a haircut with a top of the class stylist - fine. The next day I sent my 18 year old daughter there - I called and again asked for a top of the class stylist and made the appt. I asked the price. They assured me it was $23. My daughter arrived, had her hair trimmed and blow dryed and they told her it was $44! My daughter didn't have enough money - went out to her car and got every quarter, nickel, dime she could find - still not enough. She went back in - they told her they would now take $32. I called to complain - 3 times - no one ever returned my call. They lost 2 customers and more - my daughter was interested in attending their academy. read more

I've been to multiple salons in the past and nothing compares to this one. From the minute you step into the salon, you're greeted with warm smiles and friendly faces and everyone makes you feel welcomed. It's clean, chic, and very high class yet affordable. My stylist, Greta, is a heaven sent. I've been sitting in her chair for over a year now and will never allow anyone else to ever touch my hair again. She has performed miracles on my hair, including life saving color corrections and a REVERSE bayalage. That's right. Greta worked backwards (literally) to achieve the look I desired. I had a red glaze all over, I wanted a bayalage, she reversed it and left out the existing red and dyed the majority of my hair underneath the red highlights back to its roots. I've recommended Greta to basically everyone I know, I can't say enough about this girl. Ricci's is so lucky to have a stylist like her. read more

Just got a hair cut and style at Ricci's today. I requested a Master or above and received a walk-in appointment on the spot with a Senior Master stylist. Can't complain about the degree of responsiveness. I can only say that i was not impressed by the stylist because I thought by the time one became a Senior Master, the first contact with the customer would include some question about preferred style/type of cut. But this stylist just started washing my hair with no obvious effort to determine my preferences. Even after I explained what I was looking for, she offered no suggestions and worse yet, proceeded to blow dry my hair after I told her I would like a natural style that would not require blow drying. I may be overly demanding when it comes to my interactions, especially when I am paying more for the service of a seasoned professional. I believe, however, I will probably look for another salon with a more personal touch. Ricci's appears to have a very fast-paced approach to customer care at the salon, so if you want to get in and get out within 20 minutes for cut and style you might like the efficiency here. You may want to save your money though and skip the whole Senior Master billing. I am not sure I would have gotten anything different with a more junior stylist--but I guess I will never know. read more
