After 3 months of pure agony, endless doctor visits and a cortisone injection at UCLA into my husbands herniated discs (S1 being the worst of 3 bulging discs in his lower lumbar), my dear friend, a retired chiropractor in Florida, suggested seeing a good chiropractor in LA. With that said, I jumped on it because that's what this girl does. Once I got the list from our insurance, Blue Shield of CA, I immediately hit my "Yelp" app and boom! 2 of the chiropractors on my list were here with epic reviews. After reading that a patient of Dr. Allegro's suffered from a similar issue, I picked up the phone and made an appointment for my hubby. Dr. Allegro is simply the best in his field. I rarely have to see him anymore because he is very good at helping you heal as opposed to wanting you to be dependent on him. I can't say enough about how good Dr. Allegro is. I first started going to him five years ago when I was experiencing severe sciatica during my pregnancy. He took me from barely being able to walk to having no pain at all. It honestly felt like a miracle. I believe in Chiropractic care as 15 years ago I experience tremendous relief at the hands of a Chiropractor. However, my experience with Dr. Allegro left me frustrated and in MORE pain. My first complaint was seemingly never ending conversations about how insurance providers pit patients against practitioners and while I agree I explained I'm in fact knowledgeable about insurance and more specifically my health benefits. I informed the office to contact my health plan administrator for accurate benefit information. They did not listen and I had to call 3xs and listen for 3 appointments about how my cost was up in the air as they tried to get me to sign additional paperwork. I owed a co-pay and they receive a contracted amount so I did not sign papers for additional charges. However, it gets much worse... I came with x-rays that essentially show my former problems (neck, lower and mid back) were out of whack. I was only experiencing minor neck pain but you could see the s-curve in my neck is gone. I wanted a tune-up but wasn't in major pain. The adjustment felt fine. However, my 30 year old knee injury (I forget exists and am very active) flared up as I literally walked out the door and I hobbled to my car (oh yeah it's street parking only which is awful when you're in pain). I've read this can happen so I iced/took ibuprofen and waited for my next appointment. Well Dr. Allegro ignored the x-rays until I confronted him, claimed to be clueless as to how my knee was in pain and suggested I see an Orthopedist - though I didn't injure it and it's been x-rayed and I don't need surgery. Three weeks after meeting Dr Allegro and I'm in WAY MORE PAIN THAN WHEN I WALKED THROUGH HIS DOOR. Additionally, he's got an injury and it appears relies on a reticulated table for some adjustments. Dr. Allegro is a master chiropractor and educator. I have experienced great relief from pain with Dr. Allegro's adjustments in less than 24 hours between my first treatment and my followup treatment. This guy is LEGIT! Over the weekend, I seriously hurt my back to the point that it was extremely painful to rise out of a chair or out of my bed. I mean, at times just breathing or shifting my body weight from one leg to another would cause unbelievable pain. And it's embarrassing to admit that the way I hurt it was simply by bending over to give my cat a bowl of food. It had been injured before, many years ago, in a car accident and through the years I had a couple of flareups but nothing like this before. It's hard to believe that the simple act of feeding my cat triggered such an intensely excruciating response. I needed relief! It turns out that with my PPO, my insurance covers 21 chiropractic treatments with providers "in-network". Even though I wanted to see my preferred chiropractor -- whom I've worked with for over two decades -- he wasn't in-network. My insurance reduces chiropractic coverage benefits so much if I went out of network, it just made sense to try someone new so I chose Dr. Allegro. I mean, I was in so much pain I wanted to ensure that I got the maximum 21 treatments because I thought I was going to need all them. But after only 2 treatments I think I'm gonna be OK. That said I will continue to work with him until I'm 100% pain-free which, based on these two treatments, will be quick! I have been seeing Dr. Allegro on and off for many years. I have a congenital lower back condition that flairs up from time to time. I have seen many different chiropractors over the years and Dr. Allegro is among the best. He practices a diagnostic technique called kinesiology that tests the bio-mechanics of the body. By looking at how muscles react to resistance he can quickly surmise issues of weakness and focus on the source of pain. I was in a car accident and had horrific whiplash. Since it was a worker's comp case, every time I went to the clinic, they would load me up with medication. I have had trouble with my back in the past. It went out on a couple of occasions, leaving me bedridden for a week or so which was hard to accept accept as I am only 47 years old! I started daily exercises a couple of years back which helped but last fall my back went out again. I saw Dr. Allegro last week who was amazing! He asked a few questions and determined that, based on my answers, it could not have been a disk that went out. With a few select tests on my legs, he was able to pinpoint the weak points in my lower back and gave me an adjustment and exercises to strengthen certain parts of my body. It was funny - the next day I felt tender in the exact spot on my back where the spasms used to start. He had never even touched that spot! This chiropractor has so much experience (about 25 years!), it is unbelievable how easy and quick he was able to get me on the path to a stable back! Highly recommended! read more
