I had an appointment yesterday for a tooth extraction.Upon arrival I was charged an amount (having…read moreforgot the previous quote) I then asked what was this charge? The receptionist said "for your previous cleaning". I explained i couldn't pay THAT bill and my copay for the extraction. She said if I couldnt pay it today i would have to reschedule so I walked out. A few mins later i walked back in and asked is it too late to pay (10 min after the appointment time) and she said yes. So I left at this point in pain with my tooth throbbing. After getting information from my insurance, it turned out that they covered the cleaning. So i called back and spoke to the supervisor she apologized and said the receptionist confused the cleaning bill with my extraction bill. I begged the supervisor and pleaded to see if there was a same day appointment she can get me into with my dentist because my molar is THROBBING. She said we can see you in two days. I proceeded to advocate to see a doctor because I was in pain, can not take more time off of work, and this was their error. She then expressed that "she tried to book me a sooner appointment, and i chose this day so this is on me"... as i was trying to express that has nothing to do with THE FACT THEY MADE AN ERORR, and I was in serious pain. She told me "excuse me im talking" Once i said "excuse me, who is your district higher up" She was able to schedule an appointment in the Wilbraham office for 3pm today. An hour and half before the appointment they let me know they can't do the extraction because i have impacted wisdom teeth. I swallowed my pride called bay state dental Harrison back to see if I can schedule the extraction for the initial 2 day appointment.... They said no i would have to go to an oral surgeon... but they were scheduled to do the service in the first place.

I specifically requested the left side of my mouth to be done due to high sensitivity. When they went to put the numbing cream on prior to the Novocain shot, they were going to do the right. After pointing out this issue, they spoke with the front desk who said they had made a mistake in scheduling, and would update my chart to do the fillings on the left. After applying benzocaine cream to the left side, I was waiting for the shot when I was informed that there had been another mistake, this time regarding the financial agreement. They told me the cost would be over double the amount I had agreed to at the beginning of the appointment--just 20 minutes earlier. At this point, I was already in the chair, half of my mouth was numbed and waiting novocaine, and they refused to honor the original price. Their solution was to proceed with only one of the three fillings and reschedule the others if I could not meet the new, much higher price. I felt that this was unacceptable and decided to walk out. I am extremely disappointed with this experience and would not recommend this office. I would give 0 if I could.

I went here for years and years, even going so far as to pay a higher premium for dental insurance…read morethrough my employer so that I would be covered to see this provider since he was not listed on the cheaper plan. The office staff and hygienists are very nice, and professional, and honestly, they are the people you are likely to be dealing with the most unless you have serious dental issues. Then at one of my twice-yearly cleanings, a different dentist came in and did the final check after my cleaning. When I asked who the new doctor was, I got a vague explanation about taking on a partner, or selling the practice, or something of that nature. When I asked if Dr. Ditomassi was still practicing there, I was told yes, although I never saw him again after that. Last year, I broke a tooth and had to get a crown. The new dentist took the mold and performed the procedure. First of all, it took almost a month to get the final mold from the lab, so I had a temporary crown that whole time, which is not fun. Secondly, I have had trouble with the crown ever since. It scrapes my cheek, and my tongue, and seeing as it is the rear-most molar, I wish that rather than spending $1000 on a crown, I would have just had it yanked out. As far as I am concerned, this is not the same practice that I used for so long, and I am now looking for a new dentist. I think patients have the right to be informed if their care is going to be handed off to someone new rather than just having it sprung upon them. If I had been given the choice to only come into the office when Dr. Ditomassi was there, I would have - but I wasn't.
