Dr seemed okay. Agree with other folks, do not run tests at the office. Go back to your primary care where you typically go for labs. The company they use, sucks in terms of customer service, no way to contact them via phone, only automated system to make payment is available. No way to clarify billing. I googled and found some online form, waiting to hear back. not sure if that is the correct website. Called doctor's office, but they claim to have no phone number for the lab they use. This Doc is a really great guy who I'd say can read people well.He absolutely knows what he is doing.....his only flaw is pretending to know how to paint! :) He is old school ,long time multi-generational professional with knowledge who is helpful. I have been going to Dr. Cherlin for almost 15 years. As a young child, I was diagnosed with Graves' Disease, which is an autoimmune disease involving an overactive thyroid gland. Dr. Cherlin is an endocrinologist....a gland specialist. I had the most wonderful care from the wonderful nurse, Kim, at the time and later on....Michelle. Excellent care, warm, friendly and comforting to a little girl who was very scared about what was happening in her body. Dr. Cherlin is brilliant. He is honest and cares about his patients. I had my thyroid gland removed 13 years ago and see Dr. Cherlin for routine yearly check-ups. He monitors my thyroid hormone levels and keeps me where I need to be. I would highly recommend him for anyone with thyroid diseases. He is the best. read more

Wasn't sure happy with the service I received. Went in from a recommendation from a friend, took in my own test results from Kaiser, and I was basically told everything was accurate and there was nothing he could do. I was in the office not even 15 minutes and I was still required to pay a co pay. Problem is, I asked at check out if there was anything I needed to take care of, and was told no, and then more than 6 months later they are calling me for payment. i love Dr. Cherlin. i switched over to him from Dr. Cabaccan because Cabaccan wasn't taking the time to address my medical needs, concerns, issues. The big reason is he takes in a lot of medical patients so it was taking 2 hrs to just see him =/ i researched Dr. Cherlin & despite the negative "boob feeling up" review, i still chose to go to him due to the majority of his reviews seemed positive. Upon arriving to his office he took me into his personal office and sat down listening to "my graves disease" journey from the beginning, making sure to chronicle it all for his file on me. He really got to know me as a patient that needed new help. My husband attended this 1st appt and yes Cherlin did do a simple brief breast exam, while my husband was sitting there and he explained why he does it, which made a lot of sense to me. There was nothing weird about it or creepy. since getting Graves disease ive dealt with alot going on with my body & the boobs are affected so i understand this part of the exam. again it was not bizarre in anyway. He has been an amazing dr. he promptly returns calls regarding blood work (all blood work is done in house) he takes the time to listen and hes a tad funny. very caring and always trying to help. i definitely recommend him. im glad i chose him despite the couple bad reviews because all my experiences with him are positive! i think one of his receptionists can be a bit more professional but shes still nice =) i wont say which one. read more

He listened to my symptoms and finally ran all the appropriate tests . I have Hashimoto's Disease with many symptoms which are really scary . He finally has me regulated where I feel Normal again . My daughter and sister both tested positive for Hashimoto's and now my Sister's daughter more recently . If you are cold , have thinning hair , dry skin , brittle breaking nails , trouble breathing , weight problems , feel really tired or weird , low blood pressure or high you too need the full panel done to include testing for Hashimoto's and Grave's disease !!! Dr. Cherlin is wonderful. The first endocrinologist I went to checked my blood, told me I have Hashimoto's; then told me that my levels were still fine and I didn't need meds yet. My internest didn't agree and sent me to Dr. Cherlin where I learned that "normal" for thyroid is a range and not a single number, and that I was at the bottom of that range. He asked me how do I *feel*; and then he put me on meds. Huzzah. Since then he and Dr. Lee have always listened to me and taken into consideration where I thought I was, and adjusted my meds based on the numbers AND the symptoms. I give only four stars because his office staff is universally terrible. They don't give messages to the Drs, don't return phone calls, and aren't particularly courteous or helpful. read more

They say email is the best way to contact them, but will not respond. Ony recourse is to go into the office. Hope they make it hassle free to transfer the medical records to a new doctor. Go with them only if you have something very specific that the doctor can help with and you can live with lack of response from the office. Otherwise, stay away from this office. Dr. Cherlin has been my endocrinologist for years. I saw five different endos before I saw him, trying to find someone who would test for Hashimotos. He was the only one who would do it. I've been happily on Synthroid since and it's made a big difference in my health and energy levels. Dr. Cherlin was recommended to me by another specialist - and I have nothing directly against him. It has to do with his front-end desk personnel - they are such poor performers, disorganized, non-responsive and rude. Because of my experience with them, I will leave Dr. Cherlin and find someone else with a good supporting team. I had the expectation one would have for a Drs office - that you can easily schedule appointments and that you can get a hold of the office if you have questions. If this is also your expectation, DON'T GO HERE - this office has had me spend more of my time chasing them down and pulling things out of them than them supporting me. I first called (during business hours) to schedule an appointment. No one answered the phone the first 3 times I called - I thought something was wrong since this is not customary for most Drs offices. Unlike most offices where someone answers the phone, at this office you have to leave a message and wait for someone to call you back. That was already a little annoying. No one called me back. So I called again and this time, pressed #11. I pressed #11 because it took the caller to a line for other doctors and I thought if I could talk to someone there, then maybe they could get reception on the phone for me so I could schedule something. It worked and I scheduled my appointment. I went to Dr. Cherlin's office and I would recommend him as a Dr. - I asked all my questions and he answered them all - I felt comfortable. We ended the visit with the action to get some blood work done. He gave me the paperwork to get it done (off site lab) and I was off. I went to get my blood drawn and soon found out from Dr. Cherlin that they screwed up my test, so I would have to go back to have it redone. By the way, he calls his patients to let them know the results, BUT, if you miss his call, there is no way to call him back - only he can call you. And then you have to call the reception desk who does not answer. Irritating again - when you're trying to figure out what's wrong, you want someone there for you, and to feel like they care about you - it's a relationship, not just a transaction. It's really not a big ask for a Dr's office. As mentioned, because they messed up my test, I was to go get the test again. Dr. Cherlin mailed me the form I would need to take to get it done. I had a business trip and then went on vacation and I somehow lost the slip before I was able to make it back to the lab to get tests, so had to get another slip. Unfortunately, that meant I had to call the office to tell them I lost it and to send another. I called and left a voice message, even after selecting #11 for doctors (no one answered). No call back. A few days later, I called again and left another voice message. No call back. I then waited about a week - after all life is busy and I have already spent an incredible amount of time trying to get this Dr.'s office to support me getting my blood work done! Anyway, I called a third time and left a very irritated sounding voice message, because I was - no profanity! The next day I got a call, FINALLY returning my call. It had been 2.5 weeks. The receptionist was VERY rude. She never apologized for my poor experience. Instead she almost immediately said "we've called you 5 times and we've spent a lot of time on you.." and insinuated my time was up with them and they can't give me anymore time. I am a paying customer who did not get the results!!! I asked when they had called 5 times - I did not have any voice messages or any missed calls. I have a desk job and I speak with customers a lot so I LITERALLY have my cell phone sitting on my desk to my left every day all day so I can see who is texting or calling me; I NEVER got a call from them. When I asked the receptionist when they called, she kept repeating they spent time on me. Was I supposed to feel guilty?? I reminded her I did not receive any calls or voice messages, and she told me "you need to be accountable and pick up the phone" in an extremely RUDE tone. Take accountability? As if I messed up on something! This is about ME, the paying patient!!! I was SO offended. And then to top it off she said "I am going to hang up now, have a good day." And she did. She hung up on me! Because I'm writing this for public viewing, I will not say all the words I really want to say about this lady who I dealt with. My whole experience has been so irritating and it's because their front office is CLEARLY not organized. And then she blamed it on me after making up something about calling me. No apology for any miscommunication, no "let's try to make the customer feel better/have a better experience" attitude, just plain old lied about what she thought happened or didn't happen, was super rude and accusatory even though I told her the truth... and then hung up on me. Worst Dr office experience I have had - would not recommend going to this disorganized office unless he changes his front desk staff. read more

I went to this office only because of a referral. They were very difficult to get ahold of for questions and since a prescription had not been called in to the pharmacy like I was told, I needed to reach someone at the office fairly quickly. It appears that is a common problem at this office as they are hard to get ahold of. I also was billed additional money that I was not informed about and received a letter stating that I would have to pay in cash from now on or find another Dr. It was a rather rude letter as well. I will be looking for an endocrinologist with the Stanford network now as my GYN is with them and she is wonderful. My new GYN has helped me with my hormone issues when this office could not and they prescribed the wrong thing anyway. I saw a Dr. Lee in his office. I would not recommend this office to anyone. Dr. Cherlin needs to retire....he was my husband's Endo when we first moved here...he is so old school, with no interest in learning or researching anything new. More interested in talking about restaurants to eat at...nice guy but definitely not someone I want watching out for my loved ones. He never even did a routine check on my husband's thyroid, even though he "specializes" in the Thyroid. Turns out my husband had a lump that was cancer in his thyroid. I have been with Dr. Cherlin for 40 years. He is one of best doctors I've ever seen. He treats me for osteoporosis and thyroid disease. He is very thorough and doesn't hesitate to answer all my questions or concerns. His office staff is very friendly and helpful too. Synthroid is not the only thyroid medication. It is not Dr. Cherlin's fault that there are limited options for insured patients, but people with thyroid issues need more dedicated and personalized help. I really felt like this place was a prescription trap. I don't want to be on ANY medication, and that should be the doctor's goal. I changed my diet to gluten-free and have had more results in one week with that than years worth of coming to this office. His only advice to me regarding my daily regimen was "walk 2 miles and eat healthy"... okay? I'm doing GREAT. I'm off insulin and feeling so much better just by talking to patients about their experiences. read more

I called to try to schedule an appointment because my life after thyroidectomy (due to thyroid cancer) is going to be living off of a pill and seeing an Endo. So my surgery is coming up and I desperately need to schedule an appointment with a good Endo and Dr. Cherlin was recommended to me by my surgeon. Well guess what, Dr. Cherlin doesn't have anything until the end of the year! The lady who answers the phone is always in a hurry to end the phone call. Obviously, answering phones is not what she enjoys and you can tell. Not a good first impression when you call this office. As for Dr. Cherlin, he helped me a great deal with my thyroid condition. And I'm thankful for that. However, he has a terrible bed side manner and is not efficient with returning phone calls. I called 3 different times over the past 2 weeks regarding my abnormal blood work and symptoms I've been dealing with and I am still waiting for a call back. Very unprofessional. I work for a Dr.s office and I understand that you get busy, but when patients are experiencing issues with their health, we make it a priority to help them asap. I was recommended to Dr. Cherlin, by a long time friend who also has Hashimoto Syndrome who raved about how he gave her back her life after many years. I am uninsured and my previous endocrinologist was younger than Dr. Cherlin, and very knowledgable, but was not increasing my medication, nor taking my comments seriously during my quarterly visits. I felt like he did not take my condition seriously. At the end of my rope I went to Dr. Cherlin after my friends referral. I told his staff, I would try him out, since I was paying cash and if it didn't work out I would probably know within 2 visits and drop him, so they tolerated that as well as one can be expected.. Well....my first appt with him he had no files on me. He did not have the lab results (due to the lab company not sending them), nor did he have any files from my previous specialist. But he managed to point out during the physical exam that I was physically manifesting the symptoms of my disorder and also addressed hormone issues that I had not been treating. He suggested a treatment plan and how long he estimated it would take before I should be feeling better. I had been stressed out and emotional - my energy level was about 2 out of 10 and usually every afternoon I would run out of energy and shut down. So I was honest with him and told him everything and hearing his plan of action was a big relief. He had my blood tested, increased my level of medication by giving me samples and booked my next appt for 6 weeks instead of 12 I was used to. I was relieved by his calm demeanor and immediately felt like I was in the right hands. Oh, and by the way - without asking, I was informed I was given a discount on the office visit, and also given a discount on the blood work. I didn't ask for a discount. And he even provided me with samples which saved me getting the prescription. I have only run into one other doctor that bowled me over like this, Dr. Mandula Kamaraju - a General Practitioner in San Jose. I have already told 3 people about him! read more

1st let me say I did not see this doctor. But I am reviewing to tell people that if you are looking for a new endocrinologist, You have to wait a LONG TIME. He is booked 1.5-2 months in advance. I had called the office to book an appt and spoke with Angela. I called today, Oct 18th and the next available appt was November 29th. I asked to be put on a waiting list, in case there was a new patient opening and she said, 'there is a waiting list but it is VERY long he schedules appts 1- 2 months out. ' But his plus is that he is involved with Good Sam which is an awesome hospital. I just wish he was accessible in a reasonable time frame. I'm running low on meds and need an endo asap. In short, he is by far the best specialist our family has, and unfortunately we have many. Not only is he the best endocrinologist, he has helped us with other concerns. I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer 28 years ago, and Dr. Cherlin had been my endocrinologist all these years. He has been up-to-date on all of the upcoming methods of body scans, saving me from having to endure months of debilitating thyroid withdrawal and rebuilding just to see if my cancer had recurred. When signs of recurrence did occur (twice) he contacted the appropriate specialists and got the discovery process rolling. I've found him to be "treatment conservative" as appropriate for my form of cancer, more than knowledgeable in many fields of medicine, and very personable. Speaking even more to his medical impact in our family's life: Fifteen years ago my teenage daughter was diagnosed bipolar, and among many problems was experiencing severe stomach pain which several doctors were attributing to an inability to metabolize the medications she needed. It didn't, however, explain other symptoms she was having. In desperation, we took her to Dr. Cherlin, and after a complete physical (confirmed with blood tests) he diagnosed Hashimoto's; her immune system was attacking her thyroid. His diagnosis, unscrambled from her recent bipolar diagnosis, was miraculous for us. She was able to get onto appropriate thyroid and psychiatric medications, and is now leading a balanced, "normal" life. read more

I have been trying to get a prescription re-filled but Cherlin's office stopped it and told the pharmacist to have me call Cherlin's office. When I called, I found that they had the wrong information and therefore stopped the prescription in error. I wish I could give 5 stars, and if it wasn't for him being a great doctor, I WOULD NOT put up with his rude staff that works the desks, not the nurses, they are all sweet... especially Aurelia, she is AMAZING with drawing blood! I am talking about the lady (or ladies) that answer the phone. SO RUDE! I pay good money to see Dr. Cherlin and average an appointment once every month and should not be treated like i am bothering you when i call in for a prescription, appointment, lab results or ANYTHING! It is your job to serve me as a customer, dont act like the patients are a burden to you because most people that are patients here, are sick or have health issues. The office is set up as ONLY a money maker. You are required to have only name brand RXs and you are required to have your blood drawn from them and there own in-house lab. They charge more than other labs (i.e. LabCorp, etc) AND they charge you for an "office visit" when you just had a lab draw. I don't think this is even legal. Besides all of that, Dr. Cherlin stated I had a life threatening disease and was going to confirm it through blood tests. Who says something like that without seeing the test results first? I didn't have this disease he was talking about. And I am thankful for that but I would really think twice before going to see Dr. Cherlin and his office. read more

He diagnosed a problem that was in the beginning stages of a potentially serious condition if it had gone undetected. He educated me on symptions, what to expect, and how to treat it.
