Terrible experience. No one in charge. I left a family heirloom instrument word a lot of money. I'm been in 9 times and called 5. They won't look in the back for my instrument and everyone says someone else has to help me but they are not in. I actually think they sold it and are hiding that fact. My husband looked up Richard's music store because they said they fixed guitars he brought in two guitars one guitar is 20 years old it's a Yamaha Yamaha he brought in the Yamaha and it was over $100 to get fixed they fixed it and then he noticed that his volume control was not working and it was working before he brought it in to get repaired for the bridge he called them up and told them that and they still charged him $288 for the volume control and it's still not working I don't think they should have charged him anything for the volume control because after all it was working before he brought it in this place is robbing people blind do not go to it. read more

Took my clarinet for repair, and Richards' staff said it would be done in one week. After a few polite check-ins I finally asked for it back, repaired or not, when three weeks had gone by. They seemed to just then remember that it *was* fixed and we could come pick it up later that day. This in itself was frustrating, but the real frustration was that the instrument was just as hard to play as it was when I took it in. Yes, they replaced some of cork and adjusted a few keys, but they left a lot to be done still. It seems like they did the absolute bare minimum and charged us $75. Because the instrument was still not playable, I took it to Pro Music in Sylvania. They showed me some cork that was still not repaired, that some pads that were leaking air, and the most important thing - that the mouthpiece needed replacement. I had specifically asked the clerk at Richard's if the mouthpiece was OK and he said it was fine..the whole problem was some bent keys. Well that was not correct - the mouthpiece had a big chink out of the tip and its replacement made it 100% better. Makes me wonder how qualified Richards' staff are. In the end, Pro Music charged us $5 for the pads and $10 for the mouthpiece, and they cleaned the case and clarinet just to be nice. And now the clarinet can finally be played! I will not go to Richard's again - they don't seem very qualified or trust-worthy. read more

Recently misplaced all my guitar tools during a move so figured I'd take my newest guitar to them for a set-up. The setup price was high in my opinion but I figured I'd pay it and maybe their professionals would do some amazing job. I usually do my own tweaking. They did horrible. Took it back a second time and they still didn't get it right. It's unplayable and worse than when I initially took it there. The action was set too high, the intonation was off, the nut was not filed properly so it doesn't stay in tune. I ended up buying new tools and doing it myself. Their tech sucks and should watch some YouTube videos before he accepts people's hard earned money. Very very disappointed and won't go back for anything now. Went to visit the guys down at Richard's Music this morning and was greeted with respect, kindness by the two gentleman that helped me at pickup, as well as drop off. I went in to inquire about a restring and tune of my Martin acoustic that I recently inherited from my father, after his passing two weeks ago. I only trusted Richard's to take care of such a precious gift such as this and they did a phenomenal job. Awesome staff, wonderful work and insanely reasonable prices. Love these guys! I am updating this review because although I didn't think this shithole of a business could get any worse, they went ahead and did just that. As my previous review stated, I ordered and paid $35 for an adaptor for my keyboard. I waited....and waited....and waited. I ordered the adaptor in July of 2009, and I now just got the part. That's a grand total of 9 months wait for a simple part. Every time I called up wondering where it was they said it was on back-order. Hmmm....back-order for a year? Well, anyways...the horrible staff at dickhead's music called up this week and said it came in and we can come in and pick it up. When I arrived at dick's crap shack they gave me the part, then told me "the price of this adaptor has gone up, and it's gonna be an extra $27." WTF!!! I was livid. I ended up paying for it because I just wanted the damn thing in my possession, but I keep wondering if this is even legal. I am baffled as to how they are even still in business with their trifecta of stupid and incompetent staff, unethical business practices, and horrible selection. I really hate them. Hate. A lot. I've never been so passionate about my hatred for a business before, but dickhead's stupid music store takes the cake. read more

wish i could just give them just a half of a star because their initial response (outside of one person) seemed a bit half hearted when trying to resolve their mistake. I ordered this guitar because it was a great deal. $800 for a $1500 guitar? who wouldn't? but alas, too good to be true. they sent the wrong guitar. wrong color. wrong pickup configuration. wrong model. i called to let them know and get the one i purchased sent in return the next day on Saturday. "oh, that department won't be in until Monday and they are in and out, you should just call back then. can i leave a message?" "no, just call back. they just sent the wrong color?" "no, wrong guitar. the one i purchased was listed as American made, this one is from Indonesia. they also have different pickup configs. one lists at &1500 the other for $500." "well, it's basically the same model right?" really? meanwhile, someone did contact me from the email i sent and requested pictures. at least somebody there was trying to help. finally talked to that department on Monday. they acknowledged that it was the wrong guitar and that they didn't have the one ("we don't carry that guitar." WHUT?!?!?) i purchased but they would have to ask for permission from the owner to process a return and to wait to hear from them. "should i start a return via Amazon?" "no, wait to hear from us and call back on Wednesday if you don't hear anything by Tuesday" i didn't get instructions until Thursday to process a return and send the guitar back. if it's in the original condition they'll issue me a refund. i got my refund but lost my chance at the other guitar and i feel like i got ripped off here. honest mistake? i would think a music store would know what constitutes their inventory and what it lists for sale. i dunno. i wouldn't do business with this establishment. if you think i may be out of line thinking "what store would make a $1000 mistake and actually honor their obvious mistake? you must be an idiot!' Guitar Solo in San Francisco, that's what store. they had a mis-marked Taylor 514 years ago. they honored the price, no questions asked and even told me they didn't charge sales tax if i paid in cash. i ended up buying 2 guitars that day and 3 others from them since. read more

Bought a ESP MH-1000 from this place last year, did a "Lay-a-way" type thing with them. In my naivety, I had only been playing for a year was looking for a new guitar. I didn't know what to look for when buying a new guitar. The sales rep seemed personal and straightforward, assuring its premium guitar etc. 3 months Later I get the guitar as a Christmas Present. Apparently this guitar had been played by EVERYONE who came into the store, it was setup improperly, the tremolo mounting screws were STRIPPED, the Locking Nut Screws were STRIPPED. Ontop of all this they sell everything in their shop OVER the MSRP, they ARE NOT a certified ESP dealer despite what their signs outside say. Spent 1300 dollars on a 990 dollar guitar, that was poorly setup and had stripped screws. I can tell you I will NEVER buy anything from this place again. Just another "Mom and Pop" shop that needs to be taken out of business, and another reason to buy everything online. read more

I went there a while back to get a new set of strings and to get them restrung. I paid $14 bucks for it all great right... Well don't get your hopes up bc I went back again bc I thought, "hey it was cheap I'll go again." Wrong the guy clearly didn't remember me and must have took me for a fool as he charged me $12 bucks for the stringing and $10 for the strings that's $22 a little price jack up. On top of that I asked for him to tighten my jack bc it kept coming loose as a if you have time for free sort of thing. Nope... Charged me $20 bucks to simply tighten the nut around the jack. I'd been looking for a Flying V Style Guitar. A friend of mine recommended Richard's Music. It was a but of a drive for me, but I figured that I'd at least go look. They had a Dean V in White and Gold with a Rosewood Fingerboard......it sounds awesome !!! Great price too !!! Price was almost as good as online dealers. Great personal service.
