Best alternator service in Dallas area!! My husband has been coming here for 25 years!

This shop used to be excellent when the father owned and operated it. The son worked alongside him and seemed knowledgeable, but after the father passed away and the son took over, the business appeared to decline. They moved from the original Richardson location, which looked like an old gas station, to a much smaller rented space where they still operate on a limited basis. I had my alternator rebuilt there, and the workmanship was decent overall. However, some of the replacement parts used were not genuine, which caused my alternator warning light to remain on. As a result, I had to remove and reinstall the alternator several times to troubleshoot the issue. While the rebuild itself was acceptable, the use of non-OEM parts created an unnecessary inconvenience. read more

Super company I've been using for about 40 years. Why replace when you can rebuild for about half the price.

My alternator seemed to be acting up so I called Don and he advised that at 188,000 miles, it likely needed at least new brushes. I pulled it and took it in in the morning and he had it done early afternoon. I want the thing to go another 100,000 so he put in new brushes, bearings and diode for a very reasonable price. Don Jr. is the best. He's always giving great advice and great service. My truck sounded like an old man on his death bed, struggling to get going. I decided it was time to learn to rebuild, watched a YouTube video and I was ready. I removed my starter, took it apart and voila, the brushes were junk and the engine oil leak was turning the innards into a black tarry mess. I stopped into Richardson Generator and got me a set of brushes. I cleaned up my starter, polished the armature, gave it a good dab of grease in the right spots and put it all together with the new brushes and bbzzzzzz-zing! My starter sounded like a teenager on meth (that's good for a starter) If you need your starter, alternator or any rotating electrics repaired, give Don a call and see what magic he can perform at a reasonable price. I had my daughter's car towed here last year. Don repaired the alternator right away and did a wonderful job. Over a year later and her car is still running with no issues. The dealership wanted $1200 to replace the alternator. I payed way less than that going to Richardson Generator. read more

It's great to see that independent specialty shops like this are still around in this age of mega-stores. My alternator died on me and getting an OEM reman unit shipped to me would have taken 2-3 days and cost upwards of $130. And after a bad experience with AutoZone parts, I decided to call RG&S. With their advice and parts, I was able to replace the rectifier in my alternator myself for less than $50 in parts and get up and running the next day. The owner even stayed a little late so I could pick up the part after their closing time. Now that's service! I could have had them perform the repair for $90 including parts, which I would highly recommend after doing it myself, but I didn't have alternative transportation to bring in the alternator after removing it. I'll definitely come back here next time I have an alternator problem. read more

Don is a great guy and gets right too it if he's not busy with something when you pull up. He rebuilt an alternator for my 1964 AMC Rambler Classic 770 with all original electrical and mechanical. Called him a few weeks later to let him know I noticed it look like something else may be wrong with my cars charging system because light was still on. He told me when I got the car road running take it up to the shop and he would check the whole system. It must have been a month or more later till I was able to do so, but he checked it out like he said, found the problem, got the charging system working right and didn't even charge me again for the 15 or so minutes he worked on it. Man wish shops still operated like this and they were more of them, they are becoming like unicorns, people heard of em and seen pictures of em but have never seen one. I was almost ready to take my alternator to another place much further away, but I stumbled upon this awesome place due to the great reviews it has. I was prepared to pay a hundred bucks at the other place doing an exchange, but opted to have it fixed instead of replaced. The owner even gave me another $10 off when I gave him my old battery (which was less than a week old, but not working nonetheless) making my experience at Richardson Generator all the better. It's a very old school operation, but your results are what matter most. Very friendly, and was able to have my newly repaired alternator in my car 3 hours after I brought it in. A+++++! read more

My Uncle who was a car dealer recommended this company to me for a starter rebuild back in 1984. They do excellent work and I have recommended them to many and I have used them many times over the past 25 years too. Their prices are good and they are fast. I really like their honesty because when you bring an Alternator or Starter in they check it and tell you if it's actually good or bad. How many places do that any more? read more

I brought my friend alternator here after no local part store had the right testing tools and it was an auction car and the alternator wasn't working when he picked it up. I took it here and he took it to the back an tested it and told us that it needed the brushes done and he could have it ready for me in 20 mins for $60. I thought that was kind of high, but we agreed. I picked up the alternator and noticed it didn't look like it had been touched..no marking on any screws from being taken apart and it did look any cleaner anywhere, just as dusty as I brought it to him. I asked him and he said no he did open it up. Once back on the car it still didn't work, so I started looking around and noticed that someone had the power wire grounded to the frame instead of the starter. I switched the wire and it worked. So basically the alternator was fine and this guy just charged us 60 dollars for 20mins of storage on an alternator that was already working. I see he has good reviews, but these must be old when business was good, because this was very dishonest. Zero stars if possible. Maybe his father did business right to get a good rep but I would not recommend this place to anyone. Its a shame because the mom and pop stores have always been the places where you could trust the person across from you, not the big box stores read more
