I have been going to the JCC ever since I was a toddler! I went to classes when I was in preschool,…read moreattended their summer camps, and even worked there as a babysitter for a summer. My mother also teaches water aerobics there so I have basically been there every Saturday since I was​ five. I also got my Red Cross lifeguard certification there. The facility is very nice and it is a great place to socialize and be involved with the community. They also have great benefits and classes for elderly patrons. As for a gym, they have a nice variety of classes but very limited machines for those who enjoy heavy lifting. Their pools are nice but the indoor ones can get very noisy. They have a nice sized​ parking lot so finding a spot is never an issue. I definitely recommend going here if you are looking to socialize and get in a basic workout (especially if you are older or have young children). My only qualm is that the price is expensive and it isn't close to my home.

Nancy with Grannie Nannies went above and beyond to meet with us first and find out what type of caregiver would meet my mom's personality. She stayed in constant contact initially to make sure everything was working out on a daily basis and that our needs were being appropriately met - all while providing extra tips for me personally to help me care for my mom's dementia symptoms.

They also offered FLEXIBLE pricing based on those needs This was the first time my mom had a surgery and she didn't know what she needed in terms of recovery. The Granny Nannie team FOCUSED on exactly what my mom needed, proactively took care of things for her and around the house. When I greeted the care giver in the morning, I was greeted with a smile. And when they left for the day, they left a smile on my mom's face. Just a wonderful team of FRIENDLY caregivers. The instructor was a great communicator and demonstrated the steps in the simplest form making it easy for a beginner like me to follow along. I was actually sore the next day! The facility is quite large and offers a variety of services. We were in a large room with tall floor to ceiling windows that faces the park. It was nice to be able to see outside and enjoy the greenery. However, this also meant that the instructor was backlit. She did not turn on the lights in the room. This was okay for me, but it probably would have been better if she has turned on the lights so that we could see her better. In the hallway, there were a lot of paintings on display and they were actually for sale. They highlighted local artists and several of their works. The paintings were priced around $250. It is very reasonable considering the cost of canvas, paint, frame, and the creativity and labor that goes into the work. The front desk staff were helpful. I stopped by there first, and one woman staff member was kind enough to walk me to the room where my class took place. The gym has several of these large rental room spaces, but it also has a gym with treadmills, ellipticals, free weights, and machines The City of Richardson allows access to this facility and Heights located in opposite sides of Hey 75 for an annual fee of $70 to residents, even less if you are a senior. You can also get a membership if you aren't a resident of the city. It costs a few dollars more. It's a great deal since most commercial gyms cost $100 a month compared to the price here for an entire year! The hours change, so it is best to check the web or call the main number. It's usually open until 10pm on weeknights, excluding Fridays, but closes earlier on the weekends.

As a Richardson resident, the city will mail out letters occasionally that will provide for two…read morefree rolls of the blue bags. These blue bags are how the city picks up recycling at our curb once a week. I had such a letter and needed to get some blue bags. They are fairly inexpensive to buy if you don't happen to have a letter. The woman at the counter was so pleasant and cheerful! Richardson is a great city to live in. We are lucky to have such great city services: trash pickup twice per week and recycling pickup once per week. Also a Babic- Brush and Bulky Item Collection can be scheduled for larger bulky trash items (furniture, old appliances, etc) weighing over 50 pounds, brush and tree trimmings, etc. The pickup day is the same as your recycling day. This varies depending on where you live within the city. You can go to the city website www.cor.net for more information or to schedule your bulky pickup. There is also a phone app "My Richardson" where you can also schedule through. So convenient and easy!

The Margarita Socitey is the best organization to keep you busy volunteering and having a good time…read moredoing it. Underprivelaged children benefit from the generosity gained from this events. The annual Margarita Ball in Dallas will bring in nearly 8,000 guests each with a children's toy or two in hand, purchase luxury items at the silent auction and offer contributions in other ways to benefit these children. The Writers Guild of Texas is a nonprofit organization that serves the writer/author community of…read moreTexas. They are based in Richardson, Texas and typically meet at the Richardson Public Library. Their motto is to Encourage, Educate, and Engage writers of "any genre and of any experience level". To accomplish their mission, they produce quality programming for its members to attend. As a guest, I recently attended one of their programs entitled, "Writing for Children" presented by author Angela Henderson Smith. I had several observations about the organization from attending this meeting. First, the group really is encouraging and supportive of each other. Second, everyone was was very welcoming of each other and new members and guests (me!). There were authors and writers of all adult ages and all different experience levels. Third, there were no "know it alls" in the group or "show offs", everyone contributed without feeling intimidated or inhibited. Rather, they encouraged each other and each had differing experiences to share that made for a great meeting. Additionally, I noticed the programming was of great quality. The speaker was a wealth of knowledge and presented her material in an interactive and engaging way. Really good stuff and really good presentation.
