Parents be warned! This camp is horrible. Your kid will suffer and not receive advertised STEM instructions. Counselors are on their phones a majority of the time, little to no supervision of children and very poor instruction. After escalating my concerns to the Director and Executive Director, Doris Bryant, she only offered a registration fee refund. I wouldn't send a child here for free. You have been warned. Look at many other negative reviews before thinking about this YMCA Richardson camp. What a disgrace. read more

This is a fraud organization. they save the card details and rob the money. I asked them to cancel but they didn't do , later the consecutive month they said 30-day notice required and again debit one month $79 without the service. They have fraud policy to give written notice to cancel 30 days before, but we can register and do everything online. Their portal have option to add your all credit cards but you cannot remove any of the card. If you ask any questions to the front desk, they give card to send email to director. Director doesn't care anything just rob money. read more

There needs to be managment changes here. There is always issues with some the personnel every year for the past two years. I cancelled service via email and missed the email required date by two days they are so technical two years of my money and they will not waive the $50.00 cancellation fee. I could see if wrote hot checks, but for two years paid on time $185.00 a week. read more

Come here to get my kids extra practice time with basketball. Place always seems tidy & friendly.

This is an older YMCA a location which could use some remodeling. The gym is equipped with the necessary free weights and equipment though, and the staff members are all very friendly. The space is pretty clean. Locker rooms are small, but there are showers available. Gym is tight, but has plenty of workout equipment. Great space for families. read more

My son has been at this camp all summer and we will definitely NOT be coming back. First, the camp is run by very young counsellors (haven't seen one older adult all summer) who clearly don't know how to appropriately deal with kids. There is no communication whatsoever. If you don't notice the small sign upon checkin you may never notice that they've changed the schedule. Haven't gotten a single email Communication. Also, I had to follow up with the regional camp director because despite being outside in TX most of the day, none of the counsellors had the kids reapply sunscreen. In fact, today was their field trip to Hawaiian Falls and my son comes home burnt to a crisp. Never once did anyone make him reapply sunscreen. That's kid watching 101!! It's bad. I would not send my kid there if I were you. read more

YMCA Richardson Sports leagues are run really pathetically. I kept trying to give them "passes" for the non-adherence to their own rules and disorganization, but it's really just ridiculous. No wonder they can never field enough teams and have to combine grade levels to get through a season of play- other people have realized how dismal the situation is and send their kids to play elsewhere. Figured I should let other parents know so they don't make the same mistake I did in enrolling my son in their sports leagues. Won't be doing that again. Lots of other sports league options nearby- PSA, SVAA, etc. read more

We've been members of the Richardson Y since moving here 8 years ago. My children have enjoyed the soccer, basketball, and swim team programs. The gym itself is small but nicely maintained, and as others have pointed out, it's not very busy (no waiting for a machine!). The community feeling here is strong, so strong in fact that I became an exercise instructor because I love the people at this Y. Families will benefit the most from memberships as the free daycare and reduced sports fees are a huge draw. read more

This is by far the worst experience I have ever had.I joined the Y and enrolled my son in soccer with the YMCA Richardson.Big mistake...they are highly unorganized and very rude.We were talked down to by the staff and the games are led by a teenagers that yell at parents for cheering on the team.I cancelled my membership and will never support them again. read more

My 7 year old spent 1 week there. He didn't hate it, but he said he he didn't want to go back. You know a camp is good when they want to go back. His big thing was that a lot of the other campers 'were not nice'. This comes from a kid who has went to 3 different daycares, two different after school programs and 6 different summer camps, this is the first time he did not like the other children. Not sure if its the kids from that area or the counselors not stopping nasty behaviour. He came home unharmed everyday so I guess it's not too bad. read more

This Y is pretty run down. The equipment needs to be replaced. The classes they offer are mediocre. The child watch is ok, but pretty lackluster (and they don't do diaper changes).The hours for child watch are not very good and this Y and that goes for the entire Dallas area. I don't like how it's 8-12, 4-8 and not offerd at all on Sunday's (same at all locations). It Would be SO much better if child watch was offered all day. I was trying to make the Y work for my family, but it's just not. It's hard because I came from Virginia where the Y is pretty over-the-top amazing. Also, the Dallas area doesn't offer an app for smart phones which is helpful if you enjoy taking classes and want to see who is teaching what and when etc. I'm really surprised that the Y isn't tech savvy in this metropolitan city. read more

Decided to write a review after reading the one from June 2014. My 7yr old also attended this location for 1 week this past summer. With the same experience of "not nice" kids. I noticed on a couple of occasions that the counselors spoke to the kids in a harsh manner. Son also said the food was gross and wanted to take his own. We may check into another YMCA location closer to my office for this year. read more

Let me start by saying that I only went to this location 3 days, but I was not impressed. The facilities weren't very impressive from what I saw walking through, and the women's locker room/shower area weren't great. Two of the five or six showers didn't work, one didn't have a shower curtain, and there were only two toilet stalls. The locker/changing area was very very cramped and small. My biggest disappointment with this YMCA was the "swim lessons" for infants and preschoolers. The infant class was advertised to be 30 minutes of fun and engaging songs and play time. I assumed we would learn how to help our infants float supported, climb out of the pool with support, etc. Instead we only learned something if we asked and we would sing just one or two songs during the last five minutes. The first 25 minutes were completely unstructured with little class/teacher interaction. The preschool lessons were not as bad, but my son wanted nothing to do with them so I don't have much to say about those. I'm sure they work for some, but the three kids in my son's class were all very scared and required parents picking them up and putting them back at the side of the pool when they tried to escape. One positive thing I have to report is that when I inquired about my son's unenthusiastic response to his class, and my annoyance at the lack of teaching in the infant class, I was offered a prorated refund for both kids' lessons. I took the refund. I also have to say that the life guards seemed to take their jobs very seriously and were always on task and attentive to the swimmers. read more

My son had private lesson with Maddie. My little one was swimming in just a few classes. Maddie is a great instructor, very patient and gave immediate, specific feedback. my son looked forward to his swimming classes. Now I can go to the pool and feel confident my son is safe. Clean locker rooms and friendly staff. The work out area is small, but never busy! I could just use a couple more machines. Over all, it's an easy place to go get my workout fix in. read more

The staff is helpful and always remembers my name, the classes are amazing and the workout room is good. We have been members for YEARS and yes it could use a facelift and some upgrades, but I love the friends I have made, the friends my kids have made and what the Y stands for. I go here to workout and do cardio and the staff at the front desk are always very friendly and seem like they genuinely care about people. They've got 4 or 5 huge TV's to watch while your doing cardio. There's always fresh towels and the cold water from the fountain taste as though it comes directly from a cold mountain spring. read more

Love the Richardon YMCA. They offer great youth sports and activity programming. This Y also has a scholarship program for children whose families can't afford swim lessons or to participate in sports. Support your Y with your dollars and your time. it helps your community more than you think. read more

The Y is a special place that nurtures its members. They quickly know your name and welcome you back. I especially like the group exercise classes. It doesn't have the fanciest rooms but all the equipment is clean and in working order. I've never waited for a machine. read more

The Richardson Y is a great organization and a staff to go along with it. They do so much for the community and have an open arms feeling to all the families. The soccer program to me is just as competitive as your local soccer organizations. The sports staff is always available and willing to help the families and kids. read more

This facility is a terrible place to send your kids for day camp. The main counselor has the worst attitude of any ADULT LEADER I have met. They lack an ability to teach kids to respectfully speak to adults or act respectfully towards each other, I have never received a phone call from a leader when my son has been injured by other kids in the program with him and their lack of attention is evident. My son was pushed to the ground by another child causing him to hit his head on a rock, he has been pushed underwater by bigger kids (MY SON IS 7 AND DOES NOT KNOW HOW TO SWIM), and bullied by two other kids in the bathroom who were trying to kick him in he groin and I only heard of this from my son. Never once has a counselor spoken to me or my son's father about these issues. The director of the program is never available via phone or email which is highly inconvenient for a working parent who is also a full time student. All in all, I am highly disappointed in the Richardson YMCA. If you value your child's safety, don't bring them here. read more
