Appears all the exercise equipment on 2d floor has been replaced with same models just new ones. One needs to bring own lock for lockers or buy one from rec center. We love this gym because of the pools and the inside is nice, and has a lot of cardio and strength training equipment. However, most of the front desk seems like they hate people. Meaning, they are pretty indifferent when greeting or answering questions about the facility. They don't really say hello until we do. I can tell they are just there to have a job, so it doesn't detour me, but geez. I can't imagine being the face of the facility, and having such a poor attitude. They are not mean or disrespectful, but it's like they just tolerate the paying guests that come in. Kind of like that new emotion on the Inside Out 2 movie. There is one guy that is friendly-I think he has reddish hair and glasses. There is another guy upstairs and the first time we went, he just stared my son down in the youth area for like the first 20 minutes we were there. My son is within the age range, but I guess the staff member wanted to make sure he didn't do anything wrong. I interacted with him a bit, and it seemed to break down a little bit of his mean-mugging vibe. He might try saying hello to people, because most people won't want to break any rules if it means disappointing a friendly guy that is in charge. The facility is cool. I suggest they get built in locks on the available lockers like they have at Carpenter Rec. I also recommend that management have a team building exercise or rotate the front people with other staff to give them a break. If you can get past the blah energy upon arriving, it's a really great facility. read more

The muehlenbeck just got renovated and from what I know, most of the money was wasted. I am a 14 year old and I bought a $170 membership and all I wanted to do was see the renovations, and from what I had seen so far they hadn't changed much. Then I went up to the gym and they told me I couldnt be up there because im too young. I asked if I could take a look around and just peek in, and they yelled at me. Went for a birthday party. The room was right next to the pool.there was a dirt straight out to the pool area, a freezer/refrigerator, lots of tables and chairs. It was so affordable and a great experience. We enjoyed ourselves so much, we returned the next weekend just to swim. The pools are clean and spacious. They have a lap pool, indoor and outdoor toddler splash areas, indoor and outdoor large pools, lazy river, massage jets, grassy area, snack bar, clean bathrooms with showers, lockers, water basketball and volleyball, sun chairs, tables, puddle jumpers and life jackets, lots of vigilant life guards.....it's just a fantastic place to spend the day with the family at an affordable price. Parking can be tricky when it's busy but we've always found a space. We've only used the pool and restroom facilities but were very impressed with those. read more

This place is targeted towards families with younger children and the elderly in the community. If you don't fit in that category then I would not recommend this facility for you. I used to go here a lot when I was in high school since it was convenient, but now that I'm in my twenties (and had the ability to try out other gyms) it's just not an enjoyable place to go workout at anymore. First of all, there aren't enough sanitation bottles around the facility and they aren't placed in convenient areas either. It's safe to assume people aren't cleaning their machines because of this- which is gross, especially since children are allowed to run around in the gym and use the machines. They have a nice barre room that you can go to for a more private workout/stretching space. I liked going in there before more people figured out you could use it- not a bad thing, but its mostly women going in there which shows they feel more comfortable in a private space than out in the general area. The environment is just not welcoming in the main areas for women who weight train anything other than their arms. I've also tried doing stretches out in the main middle area because that's where I used to do them before discovering the barre room, and even other women look at you weird for doing them out there. The environment in general is just not very welcoming whereas at other gyms I've been to no one really cares what you're doing as long as you're not being obnoxious or disturbing others. Pretty sure I'm done going here because last time I was in the barre room an older man just stood at the back of the room staring at everyone. He didn't seem to be working out at all.. it was super uncomfortable. This isn't really something the facility has control over but it's an ongoing issue I've noticed here and it's concerning if there's younger (high school) aged girls coming here by themselves. I had taken a photo of myself in the mirror and later noticed I caught him in the back of it- no face included, but he stood there long enough for me to notice that it was strange how long he had been there for. read more

We recently relocated to Plano and we are loving this rec center! There's something for everyone in our family, so it's a great investment. After being part of a big fancy gym for awhile, I really appreciate the simplicity of the fee schedule and memberships here. We're super excited about having this recreational center available for our entire family, it's much more economical and family oriented. I usually walk the track and use cardio equipment, my husband plays basketball and uses weight lifting equipment, our boys play games and basketball. We haven't had a chance to enjoy the pool just yet, but it looks amazing! The outdoor pool is like a resort. My daughter is a member of a dance team who had a contract to use this facility for practicing. The staff was extremely rude to my daughter as well as the other young girls on a daily basis. They acted as if these kids were a nuisance, rather than a customer. To add insult to injury, our contract was terminated without a reasonable explanation. Please understand that this dance team is a safe haven for young African American girls and encourages sisterhood , team work, and positivity. We are told that the practice space will be used for another dance team that is mostly white. How is this acceptable in 2021? We will not be returning as residents of Plano. read more

I find myself at TMC for classes and meetings. As a meeting space, it offers s simple set up of tables and chairs in your given room for a low cost. I like that it offers seating areas outside the space plus the inclusion of a door to close off traffic and loud noises makes for a productive area. The swimming area is top notch with lap lanes (as it is home to Plano swim team) and leisure areas. When my kids were little, they loved the small slide area and spray area. As they grew, the slides - 2 indoor, 2 outdoors - added adventure to the day. A lazy river with a very strong current sits indoors while another one is outdoors. Both pools have large areas for fun and play. The gym is huge and allows players in for different sports at different times. Weight room has everything plus rooms for classes. Best part is the upstairs track for no excuses for running. It is always the right temp for moving. read more

I signed up for my second bout of Plano Rec pilates and it just happens to be taught here. Holy Crap! Driving out to this thing, I felt instantly impressed with the building! As you pull in, you will first come up on an area where parents can idle to pick up their rugrats. Continue on and drive over the bridge to the sea that is the parking lot. The parking lot rows are divided by grassy embankments. So if you decide to turn down the first one, you have the length of the lot, to be able to turn and drive back down the second row. Also, the speed bumps are sorta out of control, as in big. Walking up, the building is modern looking and pretty. There are all sorts of goodies to do inside! Ping pong tables, indoor track, (11 laps for a mile) badminton, volleyball, basketball, a couple of swimming pools: leisure and laned, (with slides!) cardio equipment, weight equipment and some instruction rooms. There are also some lounge areas with tables and chairs and a large screen tv. Even a food cart area! New and still shiny, this place is nice! The ladies locker rooms had a large dressing area with large lockers, a counter area with mirrors for blow drying, stalls and sinks, and a shower area. (Older women are NOT afraid to get naked...older women and kids. The middle aged ones are the shy ones) Also eye catching is the hanging art display that is near the entrance. It is unfortunate that this place has become another victim of massive Plano population shifting. Seems as though parents send their kids here for babysitting or when either the kids or parents have nothing else to do. Kids are often in the adult workout area, which is already quite small with only ONE of each machine. Kids and teenagers will sit on machines, piddle around, try to figure out what to do, while happy parents are either at home or in some other location at the gym "supervising" their kids with their must be "x-ray" eyes and stellar hearing. I am not sure how you supervise someone when you are not even in the same room. The other day a woman was on the stair step machine while her 4-5 year old daughter sat on the floor beneath her! That is a lawsuit waiting to happen! The bathrooms are yet another issue. I am afraid to leave anything out. Sometimes it is full of questionable kids after school who spend time in there cussing, kissing, touching, filming on their smart phones. Not sure about you, but when I was growing up, I used the changing rooms to shower or urinate. Every time I go to this center I have to worry about what I will encounter. It is just another reflection of an organization's inablity to control anything based on the following 1) not caring or 2) fear of how the community/ parents wills respond. read more

This facility is superb. It offers a playground for preschool classes, large swimming slides for parties, and large locker rooms to refresh. The gym space is located in the back of the building reducing the noise. The staff reminds me of the DMV. After 5 phone calls to reach the supervisor still no luck.The lack of helpfulness is rampant. The Tom Muehlenbeck Rec Center has a community rec center as well as a pool. The pool is great if you have kids of any age (until they're too cool for a pool of course). There's a shallow water area with slide, splash pad, and other interactive water features perfect for 2-6+ year olds. Attached to it is a larger, deeper pool for the rest of the family. It includes a basketball hoop and volley ball net. And past that are some large water slides. There's tables, lounge chairs, and covered picnic areas across the park. Additionally they're are about 6 life guards scattered across the park at all times with a couple others swapping in and out. My daughter is a member of a dance team who has been practicing at this facility for the past few months. Recently the team was informed of the contract being terminated as of June 1st. No complaints were ever filed against the team & no explanation was ever given to the team as to why they were being made to leave. Its such a coincidence though that a mostly white team is taking the time slot for our all black dance team. City of Plano should be ashamed, but they're Not!!! How can you do this to children? These girls hearts were broken after hearing the news. No more of my money will be spent at this facility. read more

First experience here. Review for outdoor pool area. Lifeguards are rude and way over the top strict, bossy, degrading towards parents. My son who is 6 was in the splash pad area and I was asked to be an arms length of him. Keep in mind the deepest part of this area is 1ft. He is 6! My other son (7) was pulling on the ropes that open the water valves. You have to pull down pretty hard to get the valve to open. He briefly lifted up his feet to hang in order to get water to come down and was abruptly yelled at not to hang on ropes..... uh what are the ropes there for then? Manager needs to have a team meeting and reel in these authoritarian 19-20 year old lifeguards. Doubt we will be back read more

I was skeptical about going to a public workout facility when my wife drug me down to this place. I have been a member at private gyms like Gold's Gym and have paid a lot of money to work out and use the pool at these places. The Tom Muehlenbeck Center is amazing. It has three huge pools complete with waterslides, kids pools, indoor and outdoor, fountains, and more lifeguards than you can count. There were new basketball courts, and an indoor running track suspended from the cieling that routes around the basketball courts and through the interior of the building. There were free weights, machines, elliptical, treadmill, stair climbers, stretching room, and even a rec room complete with pool table, foosball, ping pong, and air hockey. The rates blew me away more than the facilities considering you have access to ALL of the City of Plano's Rec buildings. The price for a year was 1/3 the price I was paying at Gold's Gym and the place is about 4 times larger. When you consider you can to to all the other facilities, it's a steal. We joined the very next day after checking out a couple of the places closer to our house. I especially like the Oak Point Recreation center as it has around 16 dedicated lap pools. I like to swim and this is a place where you can swim your laps and typically get a lane to yourself. I am amazed at how well the City of Plano takes care of it's locals. You seriously can't beat a $130 annual fee to City of Plano recreation centers. This facility is extremely clean, spacious, and pretty much is equivalent to a 24 Hours Super Sport (don't even get me started on their outdated "Sport" facilities). I've been coming here mainly to swim and have been so pleased. The pool gets crowded in the morning with swim teams, so the best time to go is in the evenings actually. But regardless, there are always designated lap lanes open. I've been told that the pool is a saltwater pool (yay for less chemicals). The water is always clean, never murky (like other gyms I've been to) and never is there a funky taste/smell. The showers in the locker room are spacious and even have a double curtain so that you can put your belongings on one side and shower on the other. Only annoying thing is that the shower heads are pretty low--I'm 5'6" and the shower head starts around the middle of my face, which means I have to hunch/squat to get water on the top of my head. There's also an indoor running track, which is nice to have, especially for people (like me) who get bored running on the treadmill. read more

I did not renew my family membership. This is a nice facility. But the only part I used was the lap pool. Very hard to find lanes setup for lap swimming. On the Web site it says there would always be 2 dedicated. But that is not always true. There have been times they will close one of the lanes for private lessons. And then one lane will be closed for physical therapy sessions. I have had to question the head guard at least once ever couple of weeks why there are not two open lap lanes. Most were none too happy to relinquish the lane. I only found one that understood my plight. Then there are times they open the water slide, which closes the lap lanes. Or they run swim lessons which consume all the other lanes. And team swims and master swims. I found I was waiting for lanes more than I was swimming at times. There were a couple of swim instructors that kind of knew me and if their classes were empty, they would allow me to use the lane until the next class time. That was the only asking grace that kept me a second year. I was there 7 days a week, one hour every day. So probably a consumer that was too consistent and did not fit their statistics. read more

My son completed his 2nd attempt at passing swim level IV, he took back to back lessons...therefore, he took 4 weeks of lessons. My son has been swimming since age 2 (he's 9 1/2) - he had all the strokes down pat - even though he had different instructors on a daily basis...the head swim instructor said it takes 4 attempts before a student usually passes level swim level IV. I am still in awe that this is a municipal facility. It's a beautiful complex and has so much to offer. The only reason I'm knocking them down a star is due to the fact that you have to register online for classes - there are no drop in classes...and you have to sign up for 6-8 week sessions. I would like to just go when they have...I don't know..underwater ballet, just to see if I like it. Aside from that, the facility is VERY clean. I love the pool areas - there are always plenty of lifeguards. It's a great family center and plenty of parking. It's well worth the price. read more

Love this place. You can do so much at this recreation center. There's a swimming pool, theres a gym, they have lots of great activities too. I come here for table tennis on sundays. There's quite an active/healthy community of players here. They're all very very talented players. If you'd like to learn quickly but get your but kicked this is the place. read more

It's hard to believe this place is a public rec center, it's as nice and fancy as Lifetime!! Love the amenities, the equipment is great, the pools and basketball courts are fantastic. This place can get really crowded with all the middle school kids coming in after school, but it's an overall great experience that's well worth the money.
