tldr; Same bathroom, different leak, same ultimate result: fixed right at reasonable cost. A slow drip was coming out of the ceiling on the first floor. Upstairs suspects included an old water heater closet that had been turned into a vanity room with a sink in the 60s, and the original bathroom from initial build in 1909. I was thinking it was a supply pipe issue. Richie's plumber disagreed, he thought we should change the wax on the toilet, even though the toilet did not appear to be running, was only used occasionally, and after all I'm a mechanical engineer by training and I thought it was a pressurized supply issue. But I'm also not an AH and bit my tongue. The short: Me wrong; he right. He changed the wax, and now months later, no sign of leak. The toilet flapper was indeed leaking, only very occasionally triggering a refill, but creating enough of a trickle to surface-tension its way along the pipe and sneak out through a compromised wax ring. Score: Plumber experience, 1; modeling fluid flow with a diffy-Q, 0. As impressive as the initial correct diagnosis was the caveat left with me when they had gone. Plumber told me "probably is the wax ring, be we can't really be sure. You'll know in a few days. We might be wrong and would have to tear into the wall to look at supply and sewage lines" What refreshing and honest advice after years of bad experiences with HVAC and auto mechanics where an initial diagnosis was made confidently, repaired but also accompanied by "oh we *also* found that...we need another day." Cue another work ticket and a second bill, usually bigger than the first. Bad tank of gas? "Oops, sorry; timing belt. Our bad. JHere's the bill" or "yeah, that fan motor is all that's bad but we can't fix a $150 motor, you need an $18000 new system." It's a real and growing problem in the repair industries. Not at Richies Plumbing: they were honest about my issue, up front about the small chance something other than the wax ring was leaking, and turned out to be right. This is the thing: many of us don't yelp plumbers, electricians, and the like, so, like the days of yore, we still rely on word of mouth for solid recommendations. But lucky for me, when I did a search on plumbers I found two folks (Ronnie R and Jen L) whose opinions I absolutely respect giving accolades in their reviews for Richie. I didn't hesitate to call. And now I leave you with my own review. When I acquired my house a couple months ago, the previous tenants told me that they never even hooked up their gas (weird, I know) and used the window unit for heat. Uhhh, yeah, no thanks (electric heat gets crazy $ and just doesn't work as well unless you turn up super high). There were two gas heaters not hooked up to the lines and I didn't dare hook that up myself, rightfully fearing the ensuing leak or explosion. In the midst of last week's cold spell, my two electric heaters weren't cutting it, so I decided to enlist the help of a professional to hook up my heaters. Enter Richie's Plumbing! I called and got an immediate appointment for that afternoon, despite it being the day before the Thanksgiving weekend AND despite it being the first cold spell of the year. Two guys arrived and inspected my lines and the heaters and determined -after much tinkering- that due to the pilot light being broken in both, they weren't safe enough to hook up and use (I guess that match method that I've used the past two years in other houses isn't the safest method. Go figure). It was end of day before Thanksgiving, so they tried their best to see if they could find me an affordable heater from their supplier. We were just a little too late, though. The cool thing was, they were approachable and transparent. They didn't tryto sell me more services and in the end, the bill was AOK for peace of mind and a heat hook-up. This means when it comes time for more involved services (hello, new bathroom), I know who to call. read more

I hired Richie on Jen. L's recommendation and was not disappointed. We were renovating an upstairs bathroom with 100+ year old water pipes and lots of issues. The demolition was a fun DIY job. I mean, there's nothing like swinging a sledgehammer to relieve some stress! The hard part came when we had to start putting things back together. Now, I am clueless when it comes to plumbing, so I knew we would need some help. I called four different contractors and Richie was by far the quickest to get back with me and the cheapest price. He was able to remove all of the old plumbing, install the new bathtub and run the new water pipes in one day. Richie is a super nice guy and I would highly recommend his services. read more

So after the whole experience of getting ripped off by Richie's, I have a new plumber out fixing something else on the pool equipment and I found out they did a shoddy job on the work they did do. They installed the copper pipe they replaced with "quick fit" connections instead of smoldering the copper together. There is constant water pressure on this line and it is causing it to leak. Quick service. Quick response. However, dramatically overcharged for part and labor. $65 fee just to visit, and then $100 for 20 minutes of labor and a part that costs $10 tops at Lowe's (a part of equal quality). I know that the fee just for the visit is standard, but really makes me think...I'm paying this company to simply grace me with their presence, allowing me to use their service PLUS labor and parts on top of that? The whole visit was 20 minutes. I felt as though instead of teaming up with me to find a solution, they simply tried to find ways to charge as much as they could. I am a homeowner with no handyman. Needless to say, I will likely have a need for a plumber in the future, and I likely will not return to Richies. read more

I would never use this company again. They definitely overcharge their customers. When I initially called I was told that I would be charged $75 to have someone work on the hot water heater and if any additional parts or work would need to be done then it would cost an additional $150 an hour. Basically they tried to charge me $75 to show up at my house plus an additional 80 to 150 to press two buttons on my hot water heater. The plumber was only in my house for 2 minutes. If I would have known that I would have been charged $75 just for them to knock on my door I would have called another company! read more

i called and they came out next day Great! The price is outrageous in my opinion. The man was courteous, BUT was here less than an hour. He took filters off faucets banged them and the water worked again, He replaced a hose under the sink which didn't need to be because he doesnt like the kind i had on. Took a bicycle pump to blow out a pipe, (5minutes)GREAT! For this I paid a $69 show up fee and $120 plus part for 1 hour coming to a total of $200!!!! PRICEY!! Make sure you REALLY need a plumber if you call them! I will use a handyman and Then and only then will call a plumber ---Lesson learned. Also has a coupon of @35 off visit, but doesn't honor it any more ( I was told) in this day and age of computers TAKE IT DOWN if you aren't going to honor something! Only takes minutes!!! After being jerked around by another company for a week, I called Richie's Plumbing and I can't say enough good things about Richie's!! I called them at 8:40am and they had someone on the way to my house less than a half hour later. The other company mis-diagnosed the problem and Matt from Richie's Plumbing told me what was really going on and that I didn't need that $100 part after all. (Thank goodness I didn't buy it!!) Also, Matt had the problem fixed in less than a half hour, called to give me updates, and they let me pay over the phone with a credit card so I didn't have to leave work to meet them at the house. I am a new homeowner and was getting very stressed dealing with the previous plumbers. These guys were really good and professional. I had some problems with leaking faucets when we moved into our new place, and they fixed the issue and even stayed to test their work.
