Huge club house and plenty of food and drinks options. Drinks carts stop by often if you want to grab any drinks or snacks. Water is available throughout the course in many holes. One of the most difficult greens I have played. I had many green in regulations but so many three putts. Many in my group struggled to read the putts as well. Overall, we had a great time playing this course. Highly recommend it if you're in the area and want to play a nice course.

It has held the Maryland Open and many US Open qualifiers here as well as some bigger junior events. It looks wide open off the tee but you definitely want to place your ball carefully. Driver is not always the right play. I truly think this is the best course in the Frederick area, especially when it's playing firm and fast. The greens are usually some of the best is the area as well. The layout is fantastic. It has a wonderful set of par 4s, a tough set of par 3s, and all the par 5s are reachable depending on the wind direction. But danger does lurk everywhere. I enjoy that they grew more spots with long grass but others may not. Just remember that they are all lateral hazards with a local rule. Holes 3 and 12 are both extremely difficult pars but birdies are available as well. 3 especially might be the toughest par 4 in the region. There may be some forced carries off the tee, so pick the proper ones. Definitely a course I would say to play it a little shorter than your used to if you haven't been here. You may have a lot of wedges and short irons but sometimes the low shot is the right play. The range has been great, and they allow you to hit off grass on weekends. There are two putting greens, one flat and one has extreme slopes. If you haven't been here putt on the latter one as the greens will be similar. The chipping green is small but will help you work on your pitches and flop shots, two shots that are necessary out here. The new-ish bar area is wonderful, the food is delicious, and I love the camera on the 18th green. Staff has always been helpful and nice to me and my friends. And remember they will take off the cart fee if you walk. The front 9 is hilly but the back 9 is much easier.

The rough was cut at a very reasonable and fair height. I've played all 10 MCG courses over the past two years and I would rate Rattlewood in the top 2-3. You can adjust the tee height with the same ease. If you're hitting a fairway shot or putting, you just move it around. Yes, you putt which is also new to me at sims. We set our 'cede' putt distance to within 7 feet which helped speed the game along a bit. You can also take a mulligan! I went with someone who had been before and explained it to me however the staff were all very friendly and ready to help. Matt, the owner, came over several times as he heard us chatting about options for play. Very helpful! I asked him about bringing a group of ladies here and will explore that option for sure! We had Barbie helping us with drinks. We didn't eat this time but hope to next time. Draft beer was tasty. I asked about happy hours or specials and they don't have any. Make a reservation online before you go. You need about an hour a player to play 18 holes. You can extend if there isn't a group behind you. We had to since we couldn't get started on time (see note below). Pricing is different depending on the time of day. Check the website. I went with two other people and had two beers. We golfed for 3.5 hours. I paid $86, finished 18 holes and felt perfectly tired and happy when I was done. Hope that's helpful! A few points for the owners: Please allow people to enter 15 minutes before their start time. We couldn't get into the building until our reservation had already started taking away about 15 minutes from our play. We had to wait outside in the cold since we didn't know about that and dutifully got there 15-20 min early. Please get club stands so golfers with bags that don't have kickstands don't have their clubs falling over during play. Is it possible to put the golf and the drink/food on separate checks? The implication is you should tip on the full total which is misleading. I'll be back!

We went to Clustered Spires to play last Sunday. I hadn't played there before so thought we'd give…read moreit a try. Nice folks working the clubhouse, but the course wasn't in good shape. The tee boxes were dirt and clumps of crabgrass; the traps were hard packed; the mowing hadn't be kept up (yes it had rained Thursday and Friday); and fairways had bald areas and crab grass. We never saw an employee on the course....no marshal, cart or maintenance staff. For $78, I thought it was overpriced and I could play a better course in Montgomery County for nearly half. I've heard it was a good course, but right now, I'd have to give it a "C" at best.

Where do I start... the tee boxes don't even have grass, either weeds or dirt (they should rotate…read morethem to let the grass heal, seems like they don't). To add, if you want to use a tee you'll probably need to put a hammer in your bag just to get it in the ground. The greens are poorly maintained, even the fairways, half the time you're hitting off of dirt. If you like dirt trails, hiking them, not actively golfing off them, it's probably a nice place for a free leisurely walk. Additionally, noting on all that I said, it's $35 to play 18 with a cart. Take $35, multiplied by everyone that plays daily, and none of that money is being contributed to improving the course. Overall, I've played at municipal courses that are 100x better AND cheaper, so, I'm not sure what their net sales are going towards but, it's not to make the business/course any better. PS. The service is really bad too. On top of all of this, rude employees, and... AND, we were first in line to get a cart, but, apparently 2 groups magically appeared out of the dirt, and we had to wait even longer just to get started because they "were there before us" when... they were not.

Not only should the mini-golf course not be open at all, the health department needs to step in and condemn the facility. The carpeting is so worn in places that concrete protrudes through it. So much mold and mildew has accumulated on the astro-turf that it impedes the roll of the balls. Ponds of stagnant, algae-laden water are all over the place. Not a drop of investment has been put into this mini-golf course in literally years. Price was $25 for two adults and three under-twelve children. We were not even offered ebola protection suits as an option; outrageous! I didn't want to make a big deal in front of the grandkids who had been waiting to play mini-golf all day, but someone has to be forewarned not to attempt to play this course. The other aspects of the facility appeared fine and updated, i.e. the driving range and executive par three course.

As a former softball player, Doug helped me start making the shift to hit the ball like a golfer. He was patient, knowledgeable, and easy to learn from. Even with the drizzle, it was a good day.
