Easily my favorite course in Maryland so far. Challenging course layout, super fast greens, and the scenery is elite. I went with a buddy of mine and we got paired with another duo. Super chill guys and made it a great experience over all. For 41$ with cart, 18 holes in Montgomery county you simply can't beat it. read more

This is a very good, challenging course, probably the most difficult public course in Montgomery County, about as hard in PB Dye in Frederick Co. I am a 14-15 handicap and playing off the white tees (6,200 yards) is a very good test of golf. If you care about posting a good score this is not the course for you! The greens are in excellent condition, the fairways and fringes are very well groomed, the scenery is awesome. I play Little Bennett 2x a year and if I break 90 (bogey golf), I consider it a decent round. #1 (535 yards uphill) and #18 are difficult starting and finishing holes. I recommend this course if you want a good challenge. read more

Played 6/22/20 with my brother and pops as a belated fathers day round and boy was it exciting. Wish I played better, but pretty happy about grabbing 2 birds for the day. Almost holed my first ace on the par 3 #7, but didn't mind taking the tap in bird. Although the course has increased the greens fee (paid $56 at 9am, Monday) the course conditions are better than I've ever seen. Past years, greens were nice and fast but had lots of discoloration in them, but now they are perfect! The color is uniformly green, extremely smooth and fast like Augusta. Kudos to the greens keeper and maintenance staff for really bringing the course up to tournament shape. I will def return in the future, thank for a memorable fathers day round. read more

Little Bennett is my new favorite place to go practice my game and play a full round. The facility is top notch and the employees are very friendly. Now to the golf course, this one is no joke. This is a very difficult course with so many rolling hills and blind shots. For me, the difficulty is what makes it fun. I played from the blue tee and it's about 6,800 yards. I am so happy to write my 300th review! Yayy!! Golf courses are so hard to find!! This one took a great length of winding roads as well before I could see a sign for it. There was a stretch of evil discolored slow-you-down bumps before the golf course. I was running late and didn't notice the first one. It hit my undercarriage pretty hard so I wasn't happy about that. This is a very scenic, beautiful golf course. $35 for 18 holes and cart - it's a good price for friday afternoons. There was a beer lady running the course if you were thirsty. I like this course it's varied from 150 to 550 yards holes. I especially love the long courses because I enjoy driving long distance! There are some challenging holes across a lake, high hill drop down and plateau type scenarios. I had a great time there and funny enough corrected my drive while I was being challenged. read more

I know a lot of people like this course. But seriously once you've played Worthington Manor, PB Dye, or Whiskey Creek, you'll understand this isn't that great of a track. The best things Little Bennett has going for it are it's a little cheaper than those other places and the practice facilities are amazing. There's a HUGE range, a chipping green, and two putting greens. The course itself is fun and undulates a lot. The only problem I have is the front and back nine are almost essentially the same. They both have an awkward downhill par 3 (too hokey to me; there's a reason why Avenel had to revamp their course because it had a similar hole) and a finishing hole where your second shot is over the same ravine. I just feel like whenever I come here I'm hitting the same shots over and over. If you want to play here make sure you check Montgomery County's golf website, it usually has deals. Oh and by the way, if you play it for the first time, get a cart. read more

You want challenges. Here you have it. I check out the google map for the flyover golf course layout. I thought it should be pretty flat and easy. Not so much. Rolling rolling rolling. Lots of hills, slopes, lay ups you name it. The greens have breaks and slopes. There is one driving range (ground), chipping and putting area before you reach the clubhouse. I think you have to get the range ticket from the pro shop first. There are also two putting area on the right and left back of the clubhouse if you don't want to walk to driving range. Strategically planning your every shots. Have fun. read more

Great and challenging golf course for low to mid-handicappers. Scenery is spectacular. Driving range, putting greens and chipping greens are well maintained and the staff is very courteous and helpful. Wonderful place to practice and learn how to hit the ball before actually playing on a difficult course like Little Bennett. I would not recommend it for high handicappers because of the blind shots, swells in the fairway and deep rough. You can even lose balls right off the fairways. If you're just starting to play golf, this is not the place to enjoy the game. Just my opinion. read more

This is clearly the best and most scenic course in the Montgomery County Golf (MCG) system. Just as good as nearby PB Dye or Worthington Manor but much cheaper. Although not the longest, it is probably one of the most challenging of the MCG courses with a lot of elevation changes (hilly), few even lies, challenging rough, many holes with forced carries either off the tee in front of the greens, and lots of breaking putts. Not really walkable - need a cart. And if your handicap is 20+, expect to lose a few balls. Excellent pace of play midweek, despite booked with all foursomes. In excellent shape and has a nice clubhouse (except bathroom was out of soap and towels and needed cleaning). Separate building for the range is apart from the clubhouse. Despite being one of the furthest from Bethesda, quick access from I-270 makes it worthwhile to travel here. read more

The only good thing about golf course is the greens which isn't saying much. The pace of play is way to slow for early tee times and tee box's are so hairy. The course is so patchy around the greens and bunkers look like a mess. People in the pro shop are not friendly and have poor customer service, will not play here again or any of the MCG Golf course. read more

I've played here several times, but only once recently (October 2012). I found the course to be in EXCELLENT condition - surprisingly good. The greens were fast and with the slope they have, incredibly difficult. This is a VERY difficult golf course. It is quite quirky with lots of blind shots. Luckily, I don't mind that at all as I've played many classic courses in Scotland and Ireland - many of which feature the same thing. Compared to playing the Old Course at St. Andrews without a caddy (because Scotland are playing an international soccer match and they are all in the pub - but I digress), navigating this course is a piece of cake. The problem with a hilly and difficult golf course that is accessible to the Washington DC market is that it will play slow. And this course is the slowest of the slow. I haven't finished in less than 5 hours here ever. It took nearly 5 1/2 hours last time (3+ hours on the front and mercifully only about 2:20 on the back as dusk approached). They run all kinds of specials here to keep the course packed. I like to walk this course because I LOVE the exercise. But most won't want to walk it. There's no discount for walking anyway so I'm pretty sure I'm about the only person who does so. This makes me sad. I'd HAPPILY make the trip up here to play regularly when the course is in this great condition - if the pace of play wasn't so God awfully slow. The practice facility here is very good - so I will stop by and use that if I happen to be in the area. If they policed pace of play here, I'd give this at least 4 stars. It's quite a beautiful piece of property. read more

A really nice municipal course. I'm a 30+ handicap and I had a great time playing this course. Fairways and greens were in good shape. The staff was very nice and friendly. Great scenery as you're in the hills - a cart is definitely required because of all the hilly holes. We got a great rate on golfnow.com, but staff at the pro shop also informed me that you can play 36 with breakfast and lunch on weekdays for about $45. read more

I have been playing Little Bennett since it has been open (over 12 years) and have always been very pleased with it. Just played it for the first time in over 5 years and had the following observations... 1 - important to know that my review of the course is relative to other Montgomery County / Urbana courses. I have played them all. 5 stars is for Congressional and Columbia, 4 (I'd prefer 4.5) for Four Streams and Chevy Chase; 4 stars likes of Bethesda CC, Woodmont, Whiskey Creek, Worthington Manor, PB Dye. Having said all that, Little Bennett gets three stars. HOWEVER - relative to municipal / public owned courses I have played around the country, this would get 4.5 stars! I love LB. Greens are always in great shape (they drove me nuts when I played in Montgomery County Amateur and they double cut them). Do not leave the ball above the pin! And the practice area is great with one of the few grass ranges in the area. 2 - I didn't know they reversed the 9s and I'm not a fan. The old #1, currently #10, is a beautiful short par 4 with a pond left. It's a nice way to ease into a round. They have replaced that with a long uphill par 5 that is one of the more difficult holes on the course. That may be some of the pace of play issues. 3 - Pace of play is probably bad on weekend, but on a Wednesday in the fall, a buddy and I played in 3 hours 15 min and that was with leaves on the ground, leading us to look for some balls. I could see it being a slow course to play your first time out with the blind shots. 4 - shot value is great! Course forces you to use all the clubs in the bag. Favorite holes - #2, 9, 10, 12, 17, 18. Vary few flat lies out here! 5 - the course is not nearly as walkable when they switched the 9s. Get a cart and let your partner drive while you walk and enjoy the beautiful scenery! 6 - value! Best of all this is I paid $39 for 18 holes with a cart on a great golf course. I would pay that much to player Needwood, Northwest or Falls Road and not get nearly the quality course. LB isn't as nice as the courses near it but much better cost value! If you haven't played Little Bennett, you are missing a great gem in the DC Area! read more

Played 18 from an early AM t-time. Walked the course, definitely a challenge with the hills. Nice country side course with challenging t shots and approachable greens. 2 stars off since a late arrival 4some was allowed to t off. Threw everyone off schedule by almost an hour by the time we were finished on 18, because that 4some was slow as . Anyway, a beautiful course layout; and the clubhouse and snacks were well done. Let's start with the positive. The setting is beautiful. The layout is fantastic, with a wonderful variety of holes. And weekday "member for a day" specials including breakfast and lunch make this a good value if you just want to get out and play. But things are different this year at Little Bennett. First, nearly half the greens are in awful shape; a combination of dirt and shaggy grass. When I complained about the conditions of the greens, they tried to tell me that all the courses in the area had suffered from a hot summer, but it's just not true. I've played 8-10 other local courses and only one other had problems with its greens, and not nearly this bad. Second issue is that they've swapped the front and back nines. In the past, the first few holes were great warmup holes, while the 18th was a classic risk/reward hole. Now the first hole starts you off with an intimidating shot over a ravine, into an uphill slope on a long par 5. And the new 18th has such a short tee shot, it takes driver out of your hands. Finally, while they've posted signs asking golfers to play the course in 4.5 hours, there's no enforcement. On a Monday morning, we sat behind other groups in a 5 hour round. I hope that Little Bennett can fix its problems and come back strong year. It could be a great course. But for this year, stay away. Finally, if I haven't convinced you, consider that as leaves starts to fall, finding your ball at Little Bennett is an annual problem every autumn. read more

I like this course. Well maintained and very hilly. It may seem a little daunting at first, but once you start playing it, it's not bad at all. It's a good change of pace from the normal municipal county courses. In the fall when the leaves are changing, I'm sure this place looks magnificent. Not one of our favorites on the list of courses. Too many blind shots and some of the hole designs are too hard for women. Several holes have a very long carry over wasteland for the 2nd shot, almost impossible for most women I have played with, unless they hit very quality shots. The conditions are generally so so. Price can be a little outrageous during peak times, not a 69 dolar course by far. Catching the good deals online is the best way to go. It's a great course with fast greens and a lot of trees. A great looking course too, hills, sugarloaf mounting in the skyline off number 3, a ton of deer running around too. The driving range here is really nice, all grass but my only problem would be it's hard to judge distance hitting downhill onto the range. The course plays tough from the tips I'd say, it's been used for US Open qualifiers before. read more

Montgomery county has got their sh!t together. For $40 this is a great course, and while not that long from the tips it was definitely challenging. The rough was punishing(which it should be) the fairways were tight and I thought the greens rolled really well. My only beef here is the par 3's, huge elevation changes from tee to green are the only thing that makes them tough and I thought it was kind of gimmicky. I would def play here again, great bang for your buck. read more

Great grass and greens, very challenging rough, but very very poor round time and facilities. If you get a sub $50 tee time then go for it! Otherwise, look at all your options first. Good: beautiful scenery, greens and fairway had beautiful grass, water coolers everywhere. Bad: no starter, 4 GROUPS (4 x 4 people) waiting on some holes...insane round time; because so many tee shots and even 2nd shots on par 5s are completely blind, you WILL lose lots of balls, and the rough is about 5 inches long so you'll just lose a ball because you can't dam see it, even if you just saw where it landed; there are gnats everywhere and they attack you the whole round...like something out of an Africa documentary; the toilets are disgusting and haven't been cleaned in a while (old piss smell), there are stinky Porta potties on the course (with flies and cobwebs inside); no Marshalls anywhere; the food is boring and bland; there are no luxury amenities like gps or towels or tees or any of that in the carts; I bought a bucket of range balls with my round and it took me 15 mins to figure out how to get to the range, I'm still not sure it was okay to drive my cart over there.Overall the grass and the views were beautiful, but I'm only happy because I got a good deal on the round and I met a great couple to play with (while waiting). This is an old school layout, better short than long. The maintenance is a little rough around the edges, just because its an older course, but by no means does this course not hold its own against other local tracks like PB Dye or Worthington Manor and its much less expensive. The course is very hilly and totally unwalkable. The par 3s a little wonky with some big downhill drops. The 18th is a stunning hole, if you can go for it in two, good luck. read more

Very fun course. Lots of open space with challenging shots. Greens are manageable. Getting on the greens is the hard part. For a number of holes, you are shooting blind onto the greens. Some people may find that annoying but I like the difficulty. Very clean for the most part if you are playing in the spring or summer. I would probably avoid playing here in the fall and on warm winter days because the leaves are not blown off and you can easily lose your ball in them. read more

little bennett has great potential. it's another course in the area that is built on a mountain. from the clubhouse, the scenic view is a stress reliever in itself as you gaze the sky, mountain, hills, trees, and a few holes. but thats where the relaxation ends because the course challenges your talent and intelligence, (maybe thats why i dont do so well here). from the back tees, it stretches over 6706 yards of undulation. the rating/slope is 73.2/137. i have fun here when i can shape my shots successfully, (both fade and draw), pick the right club for distance, and stay disciplined to a strategy, (as oppose to going for it all the time). its a fun tough course where you just cant get away with anything. but all that manuvering and strategy goes to waste when you get to the green and the greens vary in speed, break, bumps, and crowns. its hard to give a 2 feet gimmie putt because the ball aint rollin straight. a lot of unnecessary strokes are left on those putting surfaces. fix it please! little ben could easily be the favorite of any montgomerycountygolf.com courses. fix the greens and it could rival worthington, pb dye, and whiskey creek. they would also be the best deal. the staff i would rate ok, but there was this one old fart that rubbed me the wrong way. he was kinda power trippin. in my younger days i would have spent my energy on him. the food servers impress me here. i think they cooperate with the t time sched and plan ahead. very smart and very convenient for the players who are trying to hit the replay special. im gonna give the place a 4 star, even considering the greens. read more

Been playing here for a few years and I think it is a good place. Course is challenging yet fair, very scenic, reasonably priced, friendly staff. This course was challenging, very well laid out and I would definitely play it again. The tee shots are the biggest cons and were not suited for a golfer (like me) that has a slight slice since most of the fairways tend to cut to the left. With half of the tee shots being blind, I was hitting from the rough a lot on my 2nd shot. HOWEVER, the course is very well maintained and the greens are quite fast with various slopes and challenging hole placements. All the par 3's have quite an elevation change downhill with little room for a mishit. The 13th and 18th holes will have you play with a lot of restraint since you can't just hit it as hard as you can off the tee. This is a course you know you'll play much better the second time around, and if you enjoy a challenging course that will make you a better golfer this is definitely the course to play. read more

I'm not a fan of this course. As many reviews have noted, it's extremely hilly with very few flat lies. You can hit drives right down the middle of the fairway that bounce and roll down a hill causing an awkward lie for your next shot. There are far too many blind shots. The greens are both lightning fast and rolling. Putts have to be precise or they'll roll 10 feet past the hole. It's definitely a shot makers course but honestly a lot of the fun is taken out when you have to work so hard to score.
