I recently took a Adult Beginner's Sewing Class: Level 1 at Sew Fun. I have been eager to take a…read moresewing class and found a lot of local adult art classes near me fill up quickly. So I was really excited when I found this sewing lesson shop. It was $125 for three classes. I took Monday evening classes that were meant to be slotted for 2 hours, but our sweet teacher would go earlier and stay later to let us finish the projects. Do know that this is not a true beginner class. I wish they noted that you want to take machine fundamentals before, but as a beginner I was lost a lot of the time. Our class felt like it had way too many students at times, because our teacher took a 1:1 approach and sometimes you'd be waiting for her help for a while. This does not affect my review, but our poor teacher got sick before the second class, so there was a lot of rescheduling. She did her absolute best to accommodate us which was really kind. I wish in the Level 1 we got an overall explanation of how to do things so we weren't left lost and waiting for our teacher to help us. Do know that a good amount of the tools here are well loved. On my second class, I ended up at two broken machines and wasn't able to finish my project that night. Thankfully the teacher let me come early the third class to finish it. Each class you create a new project. We made a tote bag, a zipper pouch, and a little bucket kitchen bag. I think if I went in knowing more about the machine I would've had a better experience. If you're a true beginner, be sure to take fundamentals beforehand or learn machine basics first.

Why has it taken me so long to find this magical spot of quiltiness? I've discovered many new…read morefabric stores in my recent time here in RVA, but no store really checked all the boxes before I walked into Quilter's Corner. Located in Midlothian, it is definitely worth the drive from wherever you are. Upon entering, you are drawn into the shop like a kid in a Hogsmeade candy store. Everywhere you look there are amazing examples of potential projects, and a wide variety of fabrics to choose from. The shop is so well organized that it makes exploration easy, if not a little expensive (Yes, before you ask, I needed that fabric - For what, you ask? Not sure yet, but I needed it!!). The staff here is amazing. Open and friendly, I never got the feeling that I was being a bother, or that I needed to rush to get all of my questions answered. Long arm quilting services, a large variety of classes, and a well-lit classroom are some of the many services offered. The folks who work here seem to love quilting just as much as they love sharing that knowledge of making quilts with those that visit. I'm excited to sign up for a class... I'll let ya know how it goes!

Why I had not heard of this place before now, I will never know. i have searched in the past for a…read morereally good sewing alternative to JoAnn Fabric (sorry JoAnn, I like you but at times I want a real quilting place!). I have a Brother sewing machine and asked if they could repair it...little did I know it was operator error (d'oh!) but they still did find some odd things that were not performing at 100%. Good price on repair and tune up! And...my goodness the gorgeous bolts of fabric!!! A wonderful array of very good quality quilting fabric that you could also use for sewing other things besides quilting, but also a really good assortment of notions/items to help with your quilting, quilting magazines, etc. It turns out they specialize in Brother sewing machines so I will always come here now. The staff are also so very nice! And I could bring my Chihuahua inside with me it looks like!! If I could teach her how to sew now that would be really good...anyway, I really recommend this place. So many good things here for those who sew!! Oh and the parking is really good...it's a private lot shared between small businesses! #shoplocal !!
