If you need your scissors done you'll need to leave them with him, but otherwise bring your knives and they will be "sharpening while you shop"! Had my knives and my father's knives done by them and it's wonderful to work with a knife that actually cuts instead of slips off everything Here's a safety tip, pack all your knives into an padded oven mitt and throw a rubber band around it to transport. I also brought him the bladed cup off my Nutribullet, he said he could do it. Just went through my potting shed and bringing in my pruner and garden shears Saturday!

Most knife sharpening services send their knives to this place, it's why you usually leave them and…read morepick up a couple of days later. I procrastinate about keeping knives sharp... it's a pain to find a place and get your knives back same day! So here I go, trekking to Oswego to the source. Buried in behind dense overgrown foliage and operating out of a garage crammed to the rafters with the tools of his trade is TOM! If for no other reason than to meet an unforgettable person AND save money it's worth the trip. Call in advance to make sure he didn't bag it and take the day off. It's easy to find the street but easier to drive past the house, shrouded in weeds, foliage, junk with an old white pick up in the driveway. Tom is a retired blacksmith not to be confused with a ferrier (who shoes horses). I got a quick lesson in using and caring for my knives and learned that walnut handles are the best because they are microbial retardant!. Thank God I had cash, had 7 knives sharpened for $20! I was very pleased even though Tom wasn't exercising any COVID conventions which is the only reason he gets one less star! Great job! Check him out!

A serving of word salad for you, now chopped with a wicked sharp knife!…read more I am someone who believes in the utility of an EDC (Every Day Carry) knife. I have been able to upgrade a closet, open packages, soda bottles, and fix an award plaque, and more, all thanks for my trusty Victorinox Swiss Army Knife. I am of the age when many friends are getting married, and I often see knife sets on wedding registries. Here's a $100 cash and a tip that will save you $150 more: just get a good chef's knife, and keep it as sharp as reasonably possible. You may need a bread knife and maybe some steak knives if you plan to do some bbq-ing, but still cannot beat a trusty chef's knife. True to form, both my pocket knife and chef's knife get a fair amount of work. I have a pull through sharpener at home (though it technically hones more than it sharpens). This one is good for some regular 'maintenance' when the edge starts slipping instead of gliding through a tomato, but every now and again, having a professional but a proper edge does wonders. Now, as much as I would love to have a kitchen knife sharp enough to shave with, I also know this would result in a brittle knife that would break as soon as it met cartilage. At the same time, I have seen many reels of knives that can cut paper on the fly. While I found out there is a certain technique to do so, Northside Cutlery was able to get my knives sharp enough to glide through paper. The rates are reasonable at $7/knife, and the turnaround time is fast. Everyone working the shop was kind and friendly as well. While professional sharpening is not something I do on a regular basis, I can absolutely see myself returning to Northside Cutlery for all my sharpening needs.

Fabulous service. Great staff. Recommend for all your cutlery maintenance and new purchases.read more
